Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2024-2025

A 4th liner wasn't taking that shot.

He was sincere and wanted buy-in and confidence from whomever was gonna take it but it was going to be one of a very select few candidates.
One of the six skaters on the ice was/is required to take the shot. I couldn't definitively name all six, but obviously the big guns.

I actually looked that one up: in the event of "covering" or "gathering the puck" in the crease, any player (not in the penalty box) can take the shot. NCAA rule 25.3

I believe you included Picard (8G) and Edens (24G) in the 67G total. Both have a year of eligibility left so the loss may not be as great as you think.
Eden has been making subtle noises like she will be back and Picard has personal reasons for staying in town for another year. I am more concerned about Hockey Canada poaching Murphy and Venusio by elevating them from the development team. They can't keep playing the old-timers forever but I hope they try.

I haven't seen that the WCHA will schedule around the Olympics but they should. Looking at the schedule for Milano, it would involve taking three weekends off. Players who aren't involved in the medal round would be available after one.

Any Wisconsin fans think Mark Johnson is going to retire before next season? It will be hard to repeat this season.
I've been debating whether to say anything, post anything on this.

I, of course, know nothing, no "inside info", etc.

But we're coming up on two years since there was the article about the 'charity' project he and his wife were working on, Agape Ranch in Verona, and how it was going to be "her turn", that her priorities would come first etc. And he didn't see himself coaching into his 70's (he'll be 68 at the start of next year).

So, yeah, if there was ever a time to "go out on top", "drop the mic, and walk off-stage", this would be that time.

I'll worry about it to maybe the end of next week, and then I think we'd be in the clear. But until then, I am definitely worrying about it.

After reading up on the Agape Ranch project, it's clear that MJ is going to ride off into the sunset, both literally and figuratively. And it's hard to imagine a better time than now.

I was at the pep rally event at LaBahn on Monday, and I noticed that when the athletic director was introduced, there was a decent amount of booing along with the polite applause. Is there a specific reason that women’s hockey fans wouldn’t like him?

Fired a fairly popular and fairly successful football coach, then chose to not hire the even more popular interim replacement. Then signed an "outsider" as the new football coach, who proceeded to have two seasons of not-good results, but whose contract is so big, they simply can't afford to fire him. Also, repeatedly raised ticket prices - some sports be LOT. WH tickets have gone up, but by less than other teams. If it had been any other event or circumstance, the reception would have been much worse.

That makes sense, thanks! Women’s hockey is the only UW sport I pay attention to, so this is good context.

It doesn’t have anything to do with women’s hockey. It is the overall perceived failure of the athletic department on multiple fronts.

McIntosh has alienated donors for things such as:
1) Removing doner bricks from the Shell without having a plan to display elsewhere 2) kicking long time basketball season ticket holders out of their court side seats to construct higher end seating
3) The hiring of Luke Fickell over fan favorite Jim Leonhard (a move I agreed with but the jury is still out)
4) Most recently, the hiring of a woman’s basketball Coach that is less than inspiring

The overall project that displaced those bricks also left the track teams without an indoor practice facility. At all. In the winter. A Big Ten track team literally without a place to practice in the winter. AND with no current plan to remedy that situation.

(Despite that, the men finished third in the Big Ten indoor championship, behind only USC and Oregon.)

Regarding Eden, Hailey Salvian pointed out that the players that return to college will be back in a supported environment by August, whereas for the PW players it’s much later. She thought this was a pro in terms of deciding whether or not to stay with your college team for a fifth year, for aspiring Olympians.

Of all his mistakes, this is the worst IMHO. Completely incompetent. If he gets to hire MJ's replacement, he's likely to botch that up as well.

Another angle of Simms' penalty shot that popped up in my idle TikTok scrolling, taken by a person (I assume) on their phone sitting first or second row in the corner to Thiele's left. I don't know that it adds anything to the 'forward/backward/lateral' debate, but it's an interesting angle.

Part of me thinks he'd like another kick at the can with the senior class he has teed up for next year. On the other hand, it is getting harder and harder to win a title. There were times looking at the field when I wondered who was even going to come close to giving UW a game in the tourney. Instead, the Badgers needed all of their firepower to come out on top, and we can point to a lot of small plays that might have led to a different outcome. If he chases "one more" and it somehow slips away next year, then what? I think he'll be back, but I'm less convinced of that than I was earlier. Especially since he swept all three titles this year, and that has proven more difficult with the passing of time.
