Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2023-2024

3rd period, pass across the crease by Jungels (I think it was) to Eden back door that Buglioni *just* gets a touch on, putting it three inches away from where Eden was expecting it. No three inch deflection and Eden scores.

My daughter literally started to scream goal on that one.

TDM wrote an article this am and in it is buried that OB said she'd use her last year of eligibility, but in the article she says "they" and not "we" referring to next year's team.

Of course we'd like her to stay. But if someone has gotten their degree and wants to move on instead of spending another year in school, etc., you have to respect the decision. Two Nattys and a huge contribution over her four years. Thank you, OB.

I completely agree, don't read into what I was meaning. I thought it was a forgone conclusion she'd be gone, so it was a nice slice of hope to read that. UW is going to need older talent like OB and Wheeler to counter-act Watts ever that other coach will be up to.

I find myself lamenting the Enright injury. Hall did well against the weaker end teams, but obviously MJ was trying to find a better fit for that line when the competition ramped up. It was kind of shocking to see him tinkering with lines all the way to the end. Enright was looking like a good fit for the top 6 at the end of last year.

There might be a silver lining to the loss in that they didn't get a "mic drop" moment; win the championship and walk away as champs. Does that affect OB's decision, Wheeler, Kotlowski, even MJ? I guess we'll see, Fingers crossed.

I don't know, I think the silver lining in a lost championship game is not very likely, other than motivating the returning players. The three players who you mentioned have already won titles so they really don't need to come back to get something they don't already have.

Now it's just a waiting game to see if anybody wants to jump ship and transfer and to see if MJ picks up anybody who is transferring. I personally don't like the uncertainty of the offseason with this transfer portal thing. I liked knowing who was coming in the next year and who was leaving. It was very red and white. Now it's just a bunch of pink.

I also concur with wiscolorado’s post. After a tough loss my “serenity now” moment is watching Daryl Watts pilfer the puck from Emma Maltais for an ENG in the 2021 Frozen Four Semifinal.

After this off-season, grad transfers will become much less common; there will simply be many fewer players graduating with eligibility remaining. COVID created most of them, and the grad transfers going into the portal right now are the last of those.

Understandably, Sophie Helgeson is in the portal. Undergrad transfer (maybe?, a 2021-22 freshman, so no COVID year), one year eligibility remaining.

Thanks to Sophie for her time as a Badger, 2023 national champion. Good luck to her finding more ice time. Once a Badger, always a Badger.

Yes, best wishes to her. She won some Natties, played a decent amount of time previous to this year, and even had a hatty this year.

I wonder what is going on inside Jane's head right now.....

Speaking of transfers, Grace Shirley played in 35 games for Providence, scored 7g 6a with 3 game winning goals.

A year ago, Sophie's twin sister Kate transferred from Quinnipiac to Sacred Heart (NEWHA), and had a pretty good year. I wonder if Sophie is going to join her for their final year.

That means 4 of the 8 on defense are leaving. I believe Emma Venusio is the only D coming in next year so we really have a need for 2 out of the portal. Might be a chance for a really good player to come in and have a chance at a natty.

Gervais will be entering the portal as well

Also understandable, but still... :-(

One year eligibility remaining, most likely a "grad transfer", though she red-shirted the COVID year, so that distinction probably doesn't mean as much in her case. Two championships. Thanks to her. Once a Badger, always a Badger.

Kind of surprised by this. I assume she would have shared time with Ava next year. But MJ also has shown in the past he isn’t afraid to play just 1 goalie (Desbien, Campbell, Blair). Looks like we may need to portal a goalie as only Chloe Baker is the backup.

Kayle Osborn who was very good at Colgate in portal. Looks like has 1 year. Would she consider UW knowing she would split time most likely? OSU also needs goalies and many think Hailey MacLeod from UMD is headed there

Kayle Osborne, Colgate goalie who gave us fits in the semis, is in the portal. Brooke Disher, BU D who was captain of the Canadian team that won the 2022 IIHF U18 gold medal in Madison, is in the portal. As of today, Jane Gervais is in the portal.

Sara Swiderski, Clarkson D who as a member of gold-winning Team Canada was named top D of the 2022 IIHF U18 tournament in Madison, is in the portal. Lots of talent in the portal. Hope Nadine doesn't vacuum up all of it.
