Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2021-2022

Come National Tournament time, I still predict if the teams meet on neutral ice, WI will win.

A neutral ice game is very likely to happen in two weeks at the WCHA tournament semis. Another could come in the NCAAS, as well, but WCHA semis is pretty close to a sure thing.

Wisconsin's mvp: Kendra Nealy.

The last Olympics UW lacked scoring punch but great team d play carried them really far. This year it's the opposite. We're all seeing why great team d is the crucial to success.

A secondary factor is weak d play also hurts your offensive transition in the neutral zone which hurts scoing.

Why on earth the pp is horrific will never be understood.

I'd love to see an an ice time chart.

A happy thought to crack through dismal feeling....2 future Badgers made the final 5 for Ms. Hockey in that yucky state to the west, Jungels and Enright!

We all can hardly wait until they get to Madison and can finally drink some clean water!!

I wonder if Cami Kronish could get a start today. She made 11 saves in the 3rd without giving up a goal. Blair made 15 saves while allowing 5 goals in 2 periods. Blair has had a habit of giving up an early goal quite a bit lately although leaky D certainly has contributed.

Badgers have struggled against good teams lately. Maybe Kronish can provide a spark.

I ask because the top OSU goalie, Braendli, played 12 games (including in Madison at the start of WCHA play) before joining the Swiss National team at the Olympics. Whatever the number is, 12 games certainly exceed it unless the NCAA suddenly has become more generous than I could ever imagine....

... the choice is so different than the path followed by the Badgers who went to the USA Olympic tryouts. One factor may have been relative opportunities for quality playing time before the Olympics. The US had scheduled a series against Canada. A similar opportunity for the Swiss may not have been available, making the quality of WCHA play a substitute.

You're on the right track. But it may be more of a case of the Swiss National team not playing games.

My understanding is that Team USA & Team Canada are the only ones who centralize. Meaning practice, complete & live together for the season. If someone has more information as to how the European teams operate, please chip in. But I believe it's correct that those squads only come together a short time before the Olympics.

I guess you could still schedule games even if you don't centralize. Think International Soccer. But if there are no such games, it wouldn't make much sense to leave for your home country early. I've been assuming that Braendli left when there was a Team Switzerland to play for.

There was at least one year where Sweden centralized. I think it was 2009-10 when UMD was missing a half dozen players, but somehow was good enough to win NCAAs. Maybe Miller made a deal with the devil, because both Sweden and UMD fell off a cliff soon after that.

Beyond playing games, centralization means that teams gather to train and practice together for months. That requires financial commitment from a national team. Typically, only USA and Canada centralize for a full season, although Finland may have done some form of centralization for some Olympic cycles.

Good call. The Madison chain has very clear water. You must have fished it before. The fish are excellent tasting.

Meanwhile, Frosty is turning UMTC into UND East with all his European recruits.

Tony Granato is posting on the women's thread? I mean everything I said on the men's thread dude. Haha.

Seriously, I get it but personally I don't like playing head games with goalies. She's been money, I think she's earned the right to play. If she's mentally or physically tired give her the day off. It would be fun to see Cami play in a high leverage game though.

There is just no way to hide the warts right now.

Kronish getting the start...

... and Blair not even dressed.

"Upper body injury"; why she left yesterday's game. Day to day.

Let's see Watts she got......

Not sure when it happened, but now Woz missing? Posick back playing forward in her place.

Boy, if that doesn't sum things up. Maddie Posick, who for the first time in her life was playing D, trying to eat a few minutes there, is now a winger on the second line. One career goal, IIRC.

Badgers are 5-5-2 in their last 12 games. Didn’t get a chance to see today’s game but sounds like the Buckeyes dominated play and only a good outing by Kronish kept it close.

Not much positive to see about this weekend considering the lack of offense, OSU dominating puck control and the mounting injuries. Looking more and more that the Badgers might have to travel in the first weekend of the NCAAs

(Where would this team be if Delaney Drake hadn't been able to come back mid-season. With her and Posick, they were down to nine forwards by the end today.)

We've known for years that this season they were going to be short benched. Covid absolutely saved them with the extra year. If there was no extra year, Watts was MJ going to do?
