Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2021-2022

The "Tommiettes" rink, at least for the time being, is located in the sleepy little suburb of Mendota Heights, ...
Good point, so they'll technically not be in Minneapolis at all, as that's a St. Paul burb.

The Badgers are going to play an Exhibition game against D3 Wisconsin Eau Claire, January#10th . Both are number one on Pairwise .Any thoughts on why Johnson would do this now ..I don’t recall him every playing down a level ..BTW I like when teams do this ,Mercyhurst and Robert Morris played Adrian last year ..

He loves to promote the game, it's for a good cause and the team gets to play another game. I've got some great books to give away.

Vivian Jungles just flipped to the Badgers. Huge get for MJ

Jungels has a sister Tella playing for the Rodentettes, which makes the flip all the most interesting. I saw some pictures of her with a C on the jersey and in USA jerseys, she must be a pretty decent player. Also saw a blurb about her becoming the highest scoring D in Cakeeater history, as a JR!?!. Her, Harvey and LaMantia may be the most offensive 3 D on the UW roster in their history. (might as well get the hype meter to 110% right away :))

Has there ever been a pair of sisters on the right side and the wrong side of the Mississippi river?

On a bummer note, I saw reports that Buchbinder got cut from the Olympic team. She had said we'd see her next season, so I hope she follows through. The D Corps looks a little thin next season. LOL

Puzzled by Gervais starting yesterday. The line-up sheet usually has her listed as the #3. Usually MJ doesn't give the #1 off a full game. I hope Blair is not injured. At least she has a week off to get healthy for their next opponent.

I was not able to watch, how did she look? Cool, calm and in control?

Well, we hardly ever saw her because mostly we were in our offensive zone so the camera was, too. She saw one shot in the the first and third periods; eleven in the second. Most of her saves were very routine and she looked in good form--no flopping around, no drama. (The announcers were young, enthusiastic, and extremely excited when the Tommies got a shot on goal, so they actually made some of those saves seem more spectacular than they were.) I'm no expert but she looked very business-like when on camera. The Tommie goalie played lights-out with 60 saves and many of them were eye-popping.

Gervais....great news, she played with composure.

The tommie goalie en feugo...Watts had zero goals and a lot of shots.

Unfortunately older sister Tella was the 13th forward on Saturday so she did not see any icetime. And in 14 games she's only seen action in 4 of them. Who knows if Tella's lack of playing time in any way influenced Vivian's decision to decommit. Don't care to speculate.

Former Edina teammate Emma Conner hasn't played much either. Maybe she wanted to follow the Bowlby path.

We're kinda at the halfway point of the season, so some random thoughts....

Who'd have predicted Wattage would be 3rd on the team in scoring...behind Web and O'B. 33 / 31 /28 WOW. Web and O'B are having the kind of impact I had been dreaming about them having since they committed so many years ago.
Woz is having a solid Fr year so far with 12 pts.
A couple D may be in line for double digit goal scoring for the year in LaMantia and Kotlowski. That would be impressive.
The thin group of F has eeked by so far even with the Picard injury with the addition of Drake, which really sucks because Picard was getting a good amount of icetime as a Fr and next season they have at least 12 F's, so ice time may be harder to get, but hopefully she gets a redshirt.

ARM posted this in another thread.... "We seldom see a team in women's D-I win a title when it doesn't have a great offense, and in particular, an offense that can score against strong competition. Wisconsin had great defensive teams in the ARD era, but its offense was more boa constrictor than cobra and had trouble delivering the lethal strike against top adversaries once we reached the "win or go home" point of the season."

It is an interesting thought that the Nurse/Clark teams could not get the kill shot. Obviously they both are on Canada's Olympic team, so they talent is there, but I guess as a the team they were not. MJ was never able to extract their full potential. Ironically the US Olympic castoff Pankowski lead team DID have the kill shot.

Speaking of reaching their full potential, TDM had a great article about the line changes within the top 2 lines and MJ's quest to unleash Pettet and SS. Against St. T, those 2 did score, but Watts did not, which is shocking.

And congrats to Robert Earl's other favorite team, the VB team is B16 regular season champs again, 3 in a row. Watts a titanic battle all season, down to the bitter end. Following them on twitter is a very effective way to stay connected to the games. I wish the women's hockey team twitter person was as active. 3 tweets about non-scoring plays per period is pathetic.

While it's on my mind, I looked up how a few former Badgers are doing....DeVito as played in 12 games for BU and has 2a. Former recruit Vote for BU has played in 14 games and has 1g 5a. Looks like losing her and getting Woz is a win for UW (at this point anyway). Greig has unleashed her full potential with Colgate, she as 11g and 13a in 17 games. Way to go Dara!

Been fighting injuries all season, that have affected lineup rotations and overall effectiveness. A couple wins that felt like trips to the dentist, but all's well than ends well. Who knows what happens in the NCAAs? Their fight to the end abilities could carry them a long ways, or fail them too early. I'm living it with a "que sera, sera" point of view.

(NCAA scheduling probably means I miss both Minn hockey games next weekend, though!)
