Wisconsin vs Total Recall

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

I almost feel sorry for the union hacks gathered behind Schwartz. They all look so funereal, when just a few minutes ago they were enthusiastically hoping and praying for a miracle.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

All these people calling it know a whole lot more than I do, but I'd sure be waiting until more of Madison reported.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

@Redistrict: "#WIrecall The Cook Political Report does not "call" races, but in my view Scott Walker (R) has clearly beaten back the recall."

That guy is usually spot-on.

Judging by the checkmark on Poobah's link, HuffPo is calling it for Walker as well.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

LMAO. On the AP site, Waukesha went from 37 of 185 reporting to 19 of 185 reporting, while the # of votes turned in remained the same. Oh, Kathy.

You could be right. On the other hand, I'm reminded of H.V. Kaltenborn famously and forlornly waiting for the rural votes that were going to make Dewey president.

Love hearing the talking heads on MSNBC whining about Walker's big donations and donors. Aren't these the same guys who a few years ago were so proud that their nominee for the presidency was the first "billion dollar man," or am I misremembering?

The people of WI have spoken - and they have spoken LOUD and CLEAR that they are SICK and TIRED of paying for the lavish lifestyles of Public Sector Union Workers! The jig's up folks and just count yourselves lucky you ripped the taxpayers off for so long.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

I thought Ed wasn't on for another 45 minutes. Figured he'd be the only one whose reaction would be worth seeing.

Bottom line, the Democrats could have had an election issue, but they wanted more. And they got it. They got the referendum they wanted. Voters couldn't possibly have foreseen the evil that Walker would do, and if they had, there's no way they would have voted for him. And not only were they going to prove it, they were going to make an example of Walker, for the benefit of governors in Ohio and Indiana.

It's sort of like the trial lawyer getting wound up and asking a question in cross-ex to which s/he doesn't know the answer.

You could see this coming more than a week ago when the Dem talking points shifted to "Wisconsin is not a national referendum. Wisconsin is Wisconsin."

Then David Axelrod got a little too excited:

Bad night in Boston...WI raises big questions for Mitt.

Not his finest moment. Though if this 4% margin holds, you have to think Obama is a tiny bit relieved, right? Imagine if Barrett had lost by <1% after Obama decided to be a no-show.

I want to hear more about Axelrod and Eric (New Black Panther party sissy-boys with clubs do not constitute voter intimidation) Holder going chest to chest in the cabinet room. My money would be on Holder.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

It really comes down to some pretty simple logic. If you have the choice of (A) paying an extra $1000 per year, every year, in real estate taxes so that your next door neighbor who happens to be a teacher can get her annual pay raises and never have to pay for healthcare insurance and retire early with a huge pension; or (B) you can have your real estate taxes drop and your next door neighbor teacher gets a little bit smaller pay raise and has to pay a few more bucks a month for healthcare, but STILL gets way better pay and benefits than you, then what's your choice gonna be? Unless you're a Public Union worker or family member or a complete idiot, you're gonna go with choice (B)

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

If Romney loses this fall, Walker's got to be the early favorite for 2016 now, doesn't he? First governor to survive a recall, and sounds like he'll actually get more of the vote this time.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

Also, most public school teachers have master's degrees or more, must be certified, etc. I believe that same survey says nearly the entire pay difference can be attributable to educational and experience differences...

If you want to argue 1st grade teachers shouldn't need a master's degree, I'm with you. But let's not pretend there aren't other differences affecting the pay besides simply "public vs. private"
By 'other differences' do you mean teacher unions? I don't think you need a masters degree to teach anything until you get to High School at the earliest. As far as 1st grade, you could take the top ten graduating high school seniors to teach k-3.

Nah. Jindal, Rubio, way above him, I'd figure.

He'd also have to run for re-election in 2014 (maybe against a top Dem like Feingold), win, and then immediately start to run for President. Which, I mean, is hardly unheard of in the perpetual campaign era, but not great.
