Wisconsin vs Total Recall

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

"Okay, sir, the bill is ready to be introduced on the floor. How can we get more than 10 congressmen to be eligible to vote on this one?"

"Oh, Christ, I don't know. Maybe throw in an amendment about prostitution, bribery and corruption amongst government officials?"

"No, no, no, first you flash the cash, do the deed and then pay the b****. Never pay up front, that's how you get hustled."

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

I think the point of this latest discussion is that there are certainly better qualified office holders to be on the technology sub-committee

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

In this case the free market is telling Walker his policies are bad for business. I think that was the point.

In this case it is that company telling Walker they disagree with his policies, there is a difference. The point is the free market worked, by Minnesota having one law and Wisconsin another, that company in western Wisconsin was able to choose which laws they want to be governed by and they chose Wisconsin. Nothing wrong with that...there is also no guarantee that Wisconsin won't gain jobs from another company trying to get away from the laws of Minnesota or Illinois now that WI is a right to work state...that is why these kinds of laws should be left to the state so people are free to choose which laws they wish to be governed by...much like we don't need a law that says businesses don't have the right to refuse service to gay couples. If the free market feels that is wrong for them, they stop shopping there and the place goes out of business.

Except that according to the article, they didn't close due to the market. They were still profitable.

They closed by choice.

I'm taking what the guy said at face value. He said he believes the law will ultimately cost him money. I'm taking the leap and assuming that would be bad for his business.

There is a difference between it being bad for HIS business and being bad for business. That is his choice and his belief and the way the laboratory of the states should work.

Sorry about misreading the article on the indy bakery...I see that now Gurt.

You don't have to operate at a loss for a change in market conditions to dictate a change for your company. Profitable companies change their operations and locations all the time even though they were already profitable, they just see another opportunity as being even more profitable.

Sure.

The article doesn't say that was the case here.

Are you talking the dailykos article that Scooby linked? If so, it doesn't state one way or the others, so no assumption should be made. This particular company merely thinks that a union will keep their costs in line (it's been known to happen) and that MN is spending more money than WI on the types of projects they handle.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

Heard a report on WPR today that Wisconsin ranked 40th among states in job growth in the private sector between Sept '13 and Sept '14. We go down while others go up.
