Wisconsin VS Minnesota 2/24 @ 2/25

Re: Wisconsin VS Minnesota 2/24 @ 2/25

I'm looking forward someday to watching a TV broadcast of Badgers-Gophers that has someone with a Wisconsin connection. Listening to Doug McLeod is exhausting as a non-Gopher fan. I understand when the games are at Mariucci, but not when the games are in Madison.

Great opportunity for the Badgers tonight, but there is seemingly always a game in this series where the Gophers go off for 5+ goals.

Still surprised it didn't happen last night. So many missed chances for them.

I'm worried that theyll be more calm cool and collected tonight. Here's hoping that they remain snake-bitten.

He really was terrible last night. We all have some homer in us; but, this guy reminds me of those fans at football games who boo the officials for overturning calls via replay. They looked at the tape you morons, don't boo just to boo/expect every call. McLeod was looking for a penalty anytime a WI player checked someone.

Berry was berry, berry good and the BADgers played very good position, leading to lot of blocked shots. I think it also led to many of the Gopher misses. If you're trying to avoid hitting the guy in the shin guards again, you might miss the net.

A snip of what I posted early last week.... "I know the games are on FOX WI, but I believe FOX North does the production for these (WI-MN) games. Regarding play-by-play, it would be cool to have a split booth. They tried that many years ago. I really liked it and I think the announcers did as well." I think Tom Sagissor was in the booth with "The Rug" and "Wooger"...good times!

I really tried to listen to him without judging; last time I had to switch my sound system to stream from WIBA. He IS difficult to listen to; although I have NO problem with the analyst...forgot his name. I know he has a good resume, but I know some Gopher fans are over him. I was with them until he gave the first goal to Jedd Soleway and went on to tell everybody that that is his first point since "whenever". He never corrected himself but his analyst mentioned it was Frederic who scored during the replay. This guy knows that Fox WI is broadcasting with FOX North, but I don't think he cares.
Tonight, I'm back to syncing my sound system with WIBA and DirecTv.

That said, it was a fun game to watch just like it should be between these teams. Just when I start to feel comfortable, MN pops one and all hell breaks loose. Puck luck for the Badgers was mentioned...part of the game kids, and I don't think Minnesota's first goal was a strategic plan. This 83 "shot" effort that McLeod brought up after the game is bull****. Just because you flip a puck "towards" the net from 75+ feet isn't an attempt. Child, Please.

Sorry, I just feel like **** and it's putting me in a bad mood. :p

Now that does bring back the past. I normally didn't like Sagissor, but what the heck, why not every once in a while for a Border Battle.

Not so fast my friend.

Whichever way you want to argue the Gophers controlled most of the play and were clearly buzzing more often than UW. But why should that be upsetting - you guys won. I'd take that.

I might be in the minority of Gophers fans but I enjoyed when Sagissor joined the Gophers booth.

The gophers are up 2-0, all is right with the world.

Re: Wisconsin VS Minnesota 2/24 @ 2/25

Awesome series by both teams. Very entertaining and close games this season between these two teams.....

Great save by Schierhorn, nice swipe by the defenseman. As we all know, anything can happen in OT. I'll take a split in that building anytime.

I really think Pitlick should turn pro ASAP. ;-)

Fun series.

It benefits both programs when we are both good and UW is clearly on the path back.

Re: Wisconsin VS Minnesota 2/24 @ 2/25

To me this series was reminiscent of Border Battles of the past. Close defensive games with lots of scoring opportunities for both teams. I thought the Gophers had the better scoring opportunities overall, but hit a couple pipes, or were too predictable with their shots. Wis. D corp played shutdown hockey this weekend clogging up the lanes and blocking shots making it tough to get pucks through. And Jurusik was good tonight as well.

Gophers need to avoid the box which cost them 2 goals and ALMOST a third (although I'm not sure on that charging call on Romanko in the third). So impressed with Justin Kloos in his best season as a Gopher with another game winning rocket shot.

As far as the B10 title and seeding for the B10 tourney is concerned, IF the Gophers split the next two series and UW sweeps and splits in their remaining series with Penn St. and OSU, we have a tie at 42 pts for Co-champions of the B10. Looking what Granato has done with this Wis. squad, it's a doable scenario. If so, Gophers lose the third tie breaker on total goals (-1) and are a #2 seed for the tourney.

Seeding for the Big Ten Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament shall be determined by points accumulated in conference games. Points in the regular season Big Ten standings will be awarded as follows: three points for a regulation or overtime win, two points for a shootout win, one point for a shootout loss and no points for a regulation or overtime loss.

a) Seeding amongst tied teams shall be determined by the greater number of Big Ten regular-season wins;

b) If not determined by (a), seeding amongst tied teams shall be determined by the team with the best regular-season winning percentage against the other co-champion(s);

c) If not determined by (a) or (b), seeding amongst tied teams shall be determined by comparison of total goals for and against each team in contests between (among) co-champion(s) in conference games. For sake of clarity, a team’s goals-against shall be subtracted from its goals-for in order to compare;

d) If not determined by (a) or (b) or (c), seeding amongst tied teams shall be determined by comparison of the winning percentages of the co-champions against the remaining highest ranked Big Ten teams in conference games, successively, until the determination is accomplished or all Big Ten regular-season contests have been considered;

e) If not determined by (a) or (b) or (c) or (d), seeding amongst tied teams shall be determined by the flip of a coin.
