Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: What are you going to do, when NHL-U, comes calling for you

Bring him in. I want 3 solid lines that can score, not 1. Of course there will alredy be 15 forwards on he roster, but none of the incoming Fr have the same talent as Linaker.

Barnes
Clark
Dahl
Hartzog
Lee
Little
Mersch
Meuer
Murray
Smith
Zengerlee

LaBate
Lapic
Paape
Woods

I think they should bring him in if Murray leaves, or ask him to come in w/kerdiles et al if Murray stays. There's a pretty big selling point to coming in w/Kerdiles et al, that's a hell of a class already, and it could be #1 in the nation adding Linaker, and McGuire, etc.

so will UW the recruit situation be cleared up by the end of May? meaning wittchow and linaker?

I really think Eaves is putting together a big title run or two with these potentials along w/Labate, Rumpel, and the maturing of Barnes, Mersch, Simonelli, Faust, then add in Kerdiles et al...****!

I'm not sure I agree w/ your comment. Scouts are praising LeBate regularly and looks to go in the top half of the draft and sounds pretty talented. True Linaker might have more of an immediate impact, but LeBate sounds like a up and coming power forward, whcih the Badgers really need.

Amazing how things look up, because I was despairing hardcore in March looking at the 2011 class and guessing Schultz was gone. Fast forward 6 weeks and the despair is being replaced w/ rampant optimism.

I think everyone knows LaBate will be a really nice player eventually but he could have a Michael Mersch freshman season or a Jason Clark freshman season and I don't think either one would really shock anyone.

Very true, but that doesn't mean he is less talented than Linaker. I would actually expect LeBate to have serious growing pains next season, but show us flashes of brillance as well. Eaves needs to find the right spot in the lineup to maximize what he can give the team as a freshman. My personal opinion, I thought Jason Clark deserved some chances to show off his skills too, and am still a little confused how he saw only a little 4th line time.

Eaves has a particular type of player that he likes on the 4th line, solid defensively and gives 100% effort. Every season, talented but raw freshmen end up sitting if they can't crack the top 3 lines rather then be put on the 4th line. Eaves has very specific demands from the 4th line and ususally freshmen just can't meet those demands.

Which is the main reason why Goro didn't see ice time until late in his career.

Agree on Goro. Eaves missed that one. No need for me to lament further.

Goro had the skill set to be on the top 3 lines, kinda like Clark has, and kind of like Podge had....but they didn't crack the line-up. I really would like to see 3 lines that had a very good chance at scoring, and a solid 4th line. I think Eaves tends to emphasize grinder type of players instead of flashy guys. I think back to the 90's, when Sags, Rohlik and Huckalo were on lines with flashy guys. I'd put 2 flashy guys and one grinder on the top 3 lines. The 4th line would be energy/grinders.

Zengerlee
Smith
Hartzog

Barnes
Murray
Meuer

Mersch
Lee
Clark

Little
Dahl
X

My goal would be that Hartzog, Meuer and Mersch would benefit offensively by playing with flashy guys.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: What are you going to do, when NHL-U, comes calling for you

I think the best thing about Linaker if he were to come in is that he solves an immediate need at center where we lost Podge and Sean Dolan. Zengerle has expressed his interest in moving back to the middle and obviously we return Smith and Dahl. Initially I had penciled in Smith, Zengerle, and Dahl as our top 3 centermen with someone like Meuer taking 4th line pivot duties. If we add Linaker I think we could go Smith/Zengerle/Linaker/Dahl down the middle.

Per his dad, Ryan Dau from Hudson picked up an offer from Air Force last night. He's been on UW's radar but would undoubtedly have to play two years in the USHL first.

With Murray gone, one would think either Navin or Linaker is coming this year. What would be a reason Eaves would take Navin over Linaker, when Linaker on paper is an impact player?

Hudson's Ryan Dau has committed to Air Force.

Congrats to Ryan, I've really enjoyed watching him play w/ Team WI the last two years. Wish he could have been a Badger, but Air Force got a nice player.

To be fair, Navin is an impact player as well. But I am greedy and would rather bring in Linaker now and Navin in a year or 2.

I don't know if this is true but the coaches may feel like they need an open scholarship for the 2012 class. Remember that our only senior next year is Eric Springer who I'm sure isn't on a big scholarship. Smith and Schultz will sign but guys like Zulinick, Kerdiles, Navin, and McGuire are all full scholarship guys.

Because recruiting is littered with players who were impact players on paper who were massive disappointments.

Eaves will bring in the best player for this team he can, regardless of what it says on paper.

After seeing that Saponari commits to Northeastern it would be nice to see hime to not get accepted there either leaving him no oportunity at playing in Boston, oh wait they have Harvard but I hear you need to be smart to get into there.

He's been accepted to Northeastern. Would have been funny though.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: What are you going to do, when NHL-U, comes calling for you

Obviously he really like Boston or he's trying to be a dbag and get back at BU.

Probably both. Although I'm not sure that makes him a dbag. I'd want to do the same thing. Maybe that makes me a dbag?
