Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I said right from the get go that hiring Butters was a mistake. I don't think he is a bad guy but he wasn't the same coach he was many years ago at the U.

Not sure I'd lay too much blame at his feet though. After all, it's not like UW didn't land any quality recruits when Butters was around.

Ultimately, the head man has to take the blame because it is his program (and his choice of assistant coach). Eaves has made some head scratcher decisions ever since Osiecki left.

Well, it wasn't rocket science to anyone that hiring Butters was a ginormous error the minute the story broke. Schuchuck was an odd hire, Walsh kinda made a little sense, but he still an off the board selection.

Watching the replay on the US-Fin game really made me want Oz, Granato and Patrick behind the UW bench. That would be one heck of an upgrade.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Butters is really almost too convenient of a scapegoat.

Granato or Oz would be fantastic hires. Here's hoping.

I think Oz or Granato would be fantastic to lead the UW hockey program. Patrick, not so sure...I'd like to see him as the head man somewhere first.

I agree on Patrick, he could come as an assistant to either Oz or Granato. I'd really like to see Oz as the head coach with Granato and Patrick as assistants. I wonder is BA has a short list of hockey coaches......

Andy's article here really highlights a major problem...

consider what UW would look like if they'd have gotten 2 of those 3 players plus one of Dvorak or Boeser did not decommit (obvs Boeser is next season, but still)...

losing a great player now and then happens but the 3 players mentioned in Andy's article are difference makers...this is what happened at the end of Sauer's tenure...or what began to happen to him which really initiated the downfall. Not being able to land guys like Matt Cullen, Mark Parrish, Matt Pettinger and on and on...

Jake Bunz added to the roster per Andy Baggot twitter

"Per #Badgers coach Mike Eaves: D Jake Bunz has been added to the roster, replacing D Keegan Ford. Bunz can start practicing Wednesday."

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

In with my guess....a Tischke teammate...Jake Bunz. Madison kid, almost 20, and Eaves loves him some size on his project dmen.

Good guess, Wojo. I didn't really want to confirm/deny until I knew he was officially accepted to school. Will be a walk-on deal.

I won a trip to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects game on January 13th in Dubuque that includes an autograph session with the players after the game among other things. So, I'll get to see Boeser, Malone and Freytag. Anything my fellow Badger faithful thinks I should pass along in person to any of them?

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

In before, "The Lannisters send their regards" for Boeser.

Tell Boeser that urine and morooon are not flattering colors. Tell all those lads that they will lead UW to the promised land.

Hand Boesser a package of smelt wrapped in a Badger Hockey program and whisper, "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes."

He'll get the message.

A bit about how 2015 recruits stand so far this season:

Peter Tischke
29 GP 2g 12a 14pts 76pim for Chicago Steel (13-14-2)

Luke Kunin
33GP 12g 11a 23pts 14pim for USNTDP (22-9-2 including 8-5-2 vs college programs)

Luke Opilka
A bit shell shocked recently giving up 5 to Youngstown and 7 to UND with players away at the WJC.

12-5 3.15 .879 2 so. for USNTDP

Matt Berkovitz

The Hockey News pick for "Player to watch" on West first place Sioux City (18-9-3) is 0-0-0 +1 12 pim in 17 total games. He came off the 45day ir at the end of November and has played in 12 games since

Matt Freytag

28 GP 5g 10a 15pts 12 pim for (struggling) Tri City Storm (21-35)

Seamus Malone

28 GP 6g 21a 27 pts 29pim for East 2nd place Dubuque Fighting Saints (19-7-2)

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

What's this about Don Lucia and Enrico Blasi?

Lucia Hakstol would be a better choice I guess. Or Phil Kessel. "Phil Kessel sleeps with the fishes." Has a nice ring to it.

If young Mr. Boeser is a goner, I know Chuck mentioned Matthew Tkachuk, (33 GP 20g 22a 42pts 77pim for USNTDP) which would be a pretty great deal for Bucky.

Not an elite like those two but how about a kid like Chase Pearson, as he appears uncommitted. (?) He's 6'2" 190, at Youngstown (29GP 4g 10a 14pts +3 34 pim) and playing in the prospects game next week. NHL pedigree as pops Scott was in the show for a bit. I read a year or so back he was looking to go NCAA. Anybody feel any love?

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I believe Berkovitz had mono, thus the stint on IR. It could realistically slow him all year.

Tri-City is 16-10-5 which is good for 3rd in the West Division.

Picked up a big commitment tonight from Tyler Inamoto, a 99-born defenseman from Shattuck.
