Even if those two commit to an NCAA school, I wouldn't feel too comfortable about it. I am not a big believer that they will end up in college when all is said and done.
While I understand pursuing talent, I think some coaches seem a bit stubborn to realize that they are likely exacerbating their issues by going after players that are (at best) short timers because they have a pro future on the near horizon. It is one thing when you land the high end kid that has ties to your school or your area... those tend to be a safer bet to stick around. But it is different when you recruit high end pro prospects from far off locales that likely look at your program as a quick stepping stone to the next level. While it isn't impossible to make it work and catch lighting in a bottle for a season (maybe Eichel will be that way for BU this year before he's gone), often times those situations don't work out nearly as well as you'd hope before they show up (as the Gophers learned with EJ/Kessel/Okposo years). That is... if they even show up. But I guess some coaches are more willing to gamble on the short term at the cost of the long run.
Can't argue with that. It definitely does not look good. Especially when it is a very good recruit that has ties to your area/school. Not exactly a vote of confidence there.
Does he really have to?
