I think the fact too that Petersen is a very good goalie, he'd have no chance to topple Petersen to be the back-up. I think it's safe to say Petersen has way exceeded most people's expectations since he was a late addition to the recruiting books. I don't think UW has had such a quality pair of goalies since the Cujo/Derksen year. So then in Grunwald's So year, he'll be the guy, unless a Fr comes in to challenge, which it is assumed there will be.

With Soleway coming early, Zullinick's R-S and Besse coming, next year's class of F's looks WAY better than it did 6 months ago.
 
Well Stepan isn't going to Ohio State... or Wisconsin:

Heard he couldn't get a release to go to another B1G program. Was hoping Minnesota would land him too. Big get for Kato.

Possible remaining forwards at the END of next year include:

Sr.-LaBate, Navin & Paape
Jr.-Kerdiles & Bell
So.-Besse, Zulinick, Soleway, Cavallini & McGuire

That means fo 2014 UW needs at least 5 forwards and more if there are early departures. I think Dvorak is the only player that can come in early of those currently committed (others won't have completed high school yet). So, at least 4 more forward recruits needed for 2014 by my math.

Next season's badgers feel like this season's Gophers (aka title or bust). Now the Gophers have a bunch of freshmen that'll need to contribute immediately. The badgers are apparently just going to skip 2014-15 and rely on stud freshmen in 2015.

Interesting. I always knew we had blown whatever shot we had with him, but I figured he'd go somewhere a little more reputable.

OSU wouldn't give him a release to a Big Ten school and he played at SSM with and is friends with Mankato forward Teddy Bleuger. Plus, he'll get to play close to home and Mike Hastings is a pretty **** good coach.

Probably a question for Chuck...
On the topic of Dvorak, he is an OHL draft pick of the team awarded to host the 2014 Memorial Cup, the London Knights. With London's history of luring kids with college roots, any word if there is interest on either side given the strong Memorial Cup selling point?

I doubt the Memorial Cup will be their biggest selling tool. $$$

Per the new Big Ten rules, Stepan could've still gone to UMn or UW, but would have to pay his own way his first year or play a year of juniors. Then he could be on scholarship in subsequent years.

Doubtful paying for anything was a factor. Hockey families usually aren't hurting.

Which furthers my point. If he really wanted to go to either Minny or Wisc. he still easily could have. He also spent 3-4(??) years at Shattuck. I'm guessing the cost of tuition at Shattuck is probably more than the cost of in-state tuition at UW or the tuition(through reprocity) at Minnesota.

Of course London would love to have Dvorak, he's going to be an ELITE player. I would never say for certain that door is closed with him, but it's not a big concern for me. He's got four buddies all committed to Wisconsin now, I think London is a long-shot.

There's a very realistic possibility the Badgers go into the 2014-15 season with 12-13 freshmen on the roster. Buzz's girlfriend = woof.

Doubt he wanted to play another year of Juniors. He could have waited and gone to one of these schools, but he didn't. Guessing he was more than content playing for a great coach in Hastings with his buddy from Shattuck Bleuger.

Stepan is from Hastings, MN so the in-state tuition would have been at Minnesota and reciprocity at Wisconsin :)

I never felt Stepan was a realistic option for Wisconsin anyways. I had heard when his cousin decide to go pro, feathers were ruffled.

If Ohio State didn't release him to Big Ten schools, he couldn't play at all for those schools for a year. Even if he paid his own way.
