Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Looks like a solid pickup. Committed to NTDP. In 34 games for Jr Blues he went 30-38 for 68 points.

Andy Johnson had this on him over at Bucky's 5th quarter:
#12 Luke Kunin-F-(St. Louis Jr. Blues 97): Showed off his slick hands a few different times and can fly up and down the ice. Really like his potential.

Western College Hockey Blog had this:
Luke Kunin-Not the biggest forward, but can really snipe the puck. Playing in the USHL next year feels like a stretch, but with time to fill out, he could be a really nice prospect.

Should note Shuey deserves a lot of credit. He's been very good on the recruiting trail landing forwards. Wonder what he's got up his sleeve for 2014.

Forwards to commit under Shuey: Besse, Malone, Dvorak, Soleway, Boeser and Kunin. That's a pretty solid group. Still more work to do like I said, but that's a good group to build on.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Wisconsin just landed another high end recruit in Ryan Wager from the Chicago Mission.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Seems like Wagner is a pretty good prospect. He was tied for second on Mission for scoring in their league play going 12/11 for 23 points in 25 games (their leading scorer had 3 more assists).

USHR had the following review from the Bauer Tourney this fall:

Here are the players who stood out for us at the U16 level:

Ryan Wagner, F, ’97 (Chicago Mission U16) — Was absolutely fantastic here over the weekend. Was named tournament MVP en route to leading the Mission to the championship. Plays on a star-studded team, but there was no question as to who was the team’s #1 forward here. This is a kid who did not make it out to the Select 15 Festival over the summer as the Central District cut him. While Wagner lacks size -- he’s probably about 5’9”, 160 lbs. -- he more than compensates. He is tenacious, intelligent, and has a knack for scoring goals. He is always creating plays, and constantly creating turnovers. Quite simply, he was a pleasure to watch. Is a USHL/D-I prospect, though he does not have the upside of some of the players that will be following him on this list. All we can say is that, in Chicago last weekend, Wagner was the man.

@hockeycommits: Ryan Wagner (Chicago Mission Minor Midget) has committed to University of Wisconsin for 2015-2016

@AndyBaggotWSJ: Chicago Mission coach Gino Cavallini describes Wisconsin recruit Ryan Wagner as a "dynamic'' and "feisty'' scorer who "packs a punch.''

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

This is a good get for Wisconsin. I have the oppurtunity to see Ryan last year in Cedar Rapids camp and will see him again this weekend. I would assume he makes the roster this year and spends two years as a Roughrider before heading to Madtown. I have followed Ryan very closely this year and more than one scout has said they went to see the other "higher profile" kids on the Chicago Mission but couldnt take their eyes off Wagner when he was on the ice.

"a bit" is an understatement, especially in regards to F's. 2013 has one (Besse) maybe 2 (Soleway) impact F's, and the 2014 has zero. 2015 has 2 - Malone & Dvorack. It would be great if Kunin, Wager and Boeser spend more time developing and come in 2016, I'm not a big fan of rushing these guys to college.

I'd suspect Dvorak ends up in the class of 2014.

Wagner told me it came down to Wisconsin, UNH and Ohio State. Will have quotes up late tonight.
