Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Edit: Wings just made it official

LINK
I don't think anybody expected him to be in Madison next year. **** good luck to Brendan! The "Dead" Wings are getting old and I'm sure he's one of their best investments in the future.

At least he'll look familiar in those uni's!!

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

The first overall pick in 2007? Pat Kane, Stanley Cup finalist.

The second overall pick in 2007? JVR, Stanley Cup finalist.

The third overall pick in 2007? Should have stayed an extra year. :p In his defense, he seems to have had a pretty good season in the AHL - 63 points in 76 games.

And people actually thought Turris should have been taken #1 (I may have been among them, but for obvious reasons. ;))...

Definetly not a surprise. It wasnt a matter of if Smith would go pro this summer, it was more a matter of when.
I say good for him. He was great as a Badger and Im sure he will be a great for the Wings.

As a Wing fan, your anti Wing comment is making it hard for me to root for the Hawks. Anyway, I'd rather he be a "Dead" Wing than an offensive hatchett wielding red skinned Flatlander. :)

Wisconsin Hockey: Can we still freinds?

A Wangs fan would not root for the Hawks anyways...but nice try.

Speaking for all Hawks fans everywhere...

Not one of us wants any Wings fan to root for us and rather than taking any pleasure, no matter how small, from us hoisting the Cup, we want you to feel intense pain.

I think you meant can we still be friends? :p

;)

I know this is a hockey site, but with all the graduation parties, barbeques, and fun we're having this weekend, let us not forget who made all of this possible for us!

Have a great Memorial Day holiday my friends! (..and you too goofer fans :D )

Honestly, if the Wild were in the finals with a former UW player on the team, I'd even root for them. My allegence to WI goes above all other factors. My talk of NEVER rooting for the Wild was a bit of a trolling excursion of my fellow UW fans out of bordem.

I'm a Wings fan entirely due to their uniforms and the fact they generally have former UW players on the roster.

I actually grew up listening to Hawks games on the radio during the non-baseball part of the year. I used to like to fall asleep to the radio. Does the same play by play guy from the early 80's still call the Hawks games? I think he does.

On Wisconsin/Go Hawks!

Pat Foley was on Blackhawks radio for many years; I believe he started in the late 70's maybe? Now he's on Comcast TV in Chicago along with Eddie O. I believe he's one of the classics. I love those guys & thank God for Center Ice.

I used to listen to the Blackhawks on a transistor radio* with a 9 volt battery* & an ear plug*. Came in pretty clear here in Madison.

*Look it up, young guns!

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Well, we knew that was coming. Hopefully the younger defensemen are ready to step it up. Is there a college team in the nation that feeds the NHL better than Wisconsin?

Well Jake Gardiner is capable of putting up great numbers and running the #1 Powerplay unit with Schultz next year. Craig Johnson will likely take Goloubef's position on the blueline and is an excellent shutdown d-man. Ramage will only get better, I think Ryan Little learned a lot red shirting last year and I know he worked hard in every practice... Obviously if Mcdonagh comes back there will be little to worry about on the back end and I feel there will be a better balance of Offensive defensemen and shutdown defensemen then last year, I think last year we had 1 or 2 too many offensive minded d-man that made things hard on Goody and BB. Next season there will be more balance, Gardiner was forced to take a more defensive approach last year which will prove to be better for him in the long run anyway. Eaves has stock piled for just this reason, he knew all those high draft picks were not gonna be around for 4 years so i feel he did a great job in recruiting and setting up a solid blue line year in and year out. But its time to get a blue chip goalie back in here... I think he thought he had that in Brett Bennett, the goalie situation in the years to come is the only concern i have in the recruiting relm...

We already have Rumpel lined up.

They had one offensive minded defensman. B. Smith had 52 points, the next 3 top scoring d-men had a combined 54 points. Not exactly 1 or 2, too many offensive minded.

B. Smith was on a great Power play unit which resulted in his high amount of assist... I think Jake Gardiner would have put up big numbers on the #1 unit last year as well. Next years team will need to play great team defense 5 on 5, next years team will have to have a different identity, they won't be able to just try to outscore the opponent if there are defensive lapses. There can't be defensive lapses next year so as good as Brendan Smith is having C. Johnson and Ryan Little in the lineup may be a better match for next years team identity. Justin Schultz and Jake Gardiner are more then able to handle the power play duties...
