Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Ottawa's goalie got hurt once again so Elliott came in and got the W. Looks like he's going to see some extended time.

That seems to be the only reason they'll give Elliott a chance. They basically played like crap for the first 3 games of the season, so what do they do tonight? Start the same moron that lost them the first 3. I wish he'd get traded to some other club so I could start hating Ottawa.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

That is the first thing I thought of when I heard what happened.

THe screw jobs over the years by the officials is a long list, and I don't like writing that because it sounds like an excuse, but the WCHA refs (and apparently others around the country) just plain suck.

Talk about a swing of emotions watching the last seconds of this game. I think this is the first time I was actually upset over a result of a sports game I was not playing in.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

What is the best Bar on State St/University Ave to watch a Badger Hockey gm? Or is Nitty Gritty the best as old-timers and true Badger hockey fans are always there before and after? I want to watch the game where it is going to be on most TVs w/ Audio over the entire Bar and with ppl that care.

The Red Shed is the best hockey bar in Madison.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

I realize I haven't really been around since last season so I really can't cast stones, but shouldn't we have a new thread for the 2010-11 season? I'd start one, but I'm not clever with the titles and am therefore happy to let someone else do it.

I gotta tell ya, last weekend was a lot of fun, and I'm pretty fired up about this weekend. Go RED!

We're being stubborn and making a statement because we don't like offseason-specific threads. :)

Listen Noob, we don't start new threads until the existing thread is closed. No exceptions, not EVER!

This has been decreed by our USCHO forefathers, most of whom are no longer around.

Glad I could help. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Well let's make a lot of posts so that this one gets filled up and we can have a witty title.

So I just went to set the DVR for the game tonight, and saw some crappy message about Dish network not carrying FSN? Something about Fox sports asking an outrageous price? The only reason I have the package that I have was so I could watch a few more Badger hockey games (on FSN).

Does anyone know how long this has been going on? I think I will call Dish to complain, but that is usually pointless. Anyone ever have luck when calling Dish to complain?

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Last time I checked, the year 2005 preceded 2008 by a few years, and I do seem to recall in the past starting a season thread to kick off the start of a new season even if the off-season thread hadn't hit 1000. But thanks for your input. *shrug*

Hey aktick, are ya coming to our tailgate?

Innova: I was just talking to Tomahawk Badger, and he said that Fox and Dish are in some sort of ****ing match, but he had no idea when it might be resolved.

I guess I've been put in my place.

If you go back and read the first page of this thread, I think you'll understand where I was coming from and get the sarcasm better.

By all means, start a season thread, **** the torpedos.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

I think they will go into Denver and at least come out with a point in that series. They might not be so lucky against UMD.

It always seems the WCHA has 2 or 3 teams for sure bottom and top teams and then the middle is anyone’s guess and this year especially with the two new teams in the league.

After seeing St. Cloud lose to the Badgers in St. Paul, I think they will be one of the WCHA teams to go to the Frozen Four. No Dak is always knocking on the door.

Anyone going to predict the outcome of tonights game?

I wonder how many Badger's will get there first G tonight.

I am going to say Barnes and Ryan Little both put one in the back of the net tonight.

I think Ryan Little is going to be a nice surprise this year. He has to be pretty excited to get the jersey back on.

My hunch about Little seems pretty good so far...now Barnes needs to make me look good by scoring at least 3 goals this week :)

Not putting anyone in their place, just taking exception to the term "noob" (which I've never liked unless the noob in question is really an idiot, lol), and I can barely remember last week, let alone the beginning of this thread, lol (especially since I probably didn't even read it, as I've been AWOL since April). Oh well, moving along, Go BADGERS! :)

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Theres too many posts to quote on this subject so I'll just say it. I didn't mean to offend anyone re: thread title. But the reason I brought it up is because we get in situations like this. Should we finish the current thread? Should we start a new one? No one knows what the hell is going on and we're two weeks into the season posting in an offseason thread.

Hence the reason a long time ago (before my time) the Badger fans on USCHO decided to simply do a Wisconsin thread with a catchy title and run it to 1,000 and start again. No need for parts, offseason, season etc so we don't run into situations like now where we're two weeks into the season posting in an offseason thread.

Again, never tried to offend anyone, I just think it's makes us look like we drink less paint thinner if we do it the way we did before.

just my .02 cents

Who the heck is drinking LESS paint thinner on the home opening day?

Bottoms up!

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

I think historically, the UW thread ended up getting to 1000 posts just before the new season started, hence it looked like a new season was thread was started every year. This offseason we didn't even get close. Perhaps because 60min ignored UW the whole UW offseason. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Well, that was a great start for the 1st home series. Hopefully these guy will gel before the first WCHA series. The power play looked great but it was against a bad team.

I am going to the game on Saturday, during the Packer game :( but the way they have been playing, it may be a good thing not to watch it. Where is the tailgate at again? I may stop by with the wife and 2 boys...if the don't cramp my style:cool:

I agree, they looked better than I expected offense-wise (duh I know - hard to look bad offensively when you score 7). UAH looked bad, and they weren't helped by another bs game misconduct.

The student section needs to step it up though. How hard is it to follow the drum beat on a power play? :D

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Once my contract is up with Dish Network, I'm done with them. They might be cheaper, but the keep getting into hissy matches with their channel subscriptions while other providers just suck it up and pay the fees to keep service to their customers. Thank you, Dish, for not letting me watch live Badger hockey last night.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

[Rant]You know, I was excited after last season, I added 2 season tickets so I have 4 now...and I'm already regretting it. Not because of the team - I love the coaching staff, the way the team plays, etc. - but because of the asininity of the UW athletic department. It's basically been one thing after another for the last few years that they've done to clearly show they don't really care about the hockey program.

Not that it's that big of a deal, but the latest just adds to the list - let's schedule the home opener (for Saturday night season ticket holders) for 1pm on a Sunday when the Packers have a home game at noon. Brilliant. I'll go either way, though it's going to be tough finding 3 others to ride along (being in Appleton, folks up here are a little more crazy for the Packers than in the southern part of the state), but the place will probably be half full. And I've ranted time and again about the atmosphere being one of the biggest reasons I love Badger (and college) hockey.

I realize why the game was pushed to Sunday, but the timing just couldn't be much stupider. A fall football afternoon is going to keep a lot of people away, and the team are the ones who will suffer.
[/rant]

Aktick:

If you have not sold your tickets for Sunday's game, I need two extra. Just thought I would ask before buying from UW. I sit in Sec 228 Row A. If interested, please email me at kcarstens@new.rr.com.
