Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Starting to look a lot like the '06-'07 season. Could be a long humbling season. Really didn't see Goloubef going or Stepan when the season ended. Had bought into the idea of McDonagh possibily staying (although my head never truely bought that). Goloubef, Step, & McDonagh with some of the other returners would have been a solid team. Without...i'm not so sure

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

No ****, never liked the ****ers, and never liked the *** hole Sather. That makes it "doubly" easy to dislike them more. Too bad for Stepan & McD since we like to follow ex-Badgers, but I don't care in this case.

I heard through the grapevine that Eaves is ****ed; ya think?

Is Eaves ****ed at Sather and the Rangers? I hope he's not ****ed at the kids. They're pretty much doing what most of us would do if we had that kind of pressure and $ put on us.

I guess I left that open; I heard he's ****ed at the pursuit of the players by the ButtRangers.

...and I think he should be ****ed at the NYR. The Rangers have had every opportunity to pursue these kids earlier, and over the last 2-3 years and pressuring them now two months after their season ends in heartbreak, and as Coach Eaves begins to look forward to the new season is I think an unprofessional move.

If you want the kid to make the move they should have called them the day after the game or that week and saved Coach Eaves a lot of time and given him time to find a way to balance the departure by *maybe* finding someone to come in early, etc.

I hope Eaves can find a way to stick it right back to Sather somehow:mad:

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

No doubt it must be driving Eaves crazy when he is trying to get a feel for what kind of team he's going to have and now he's not even sure exactly what players he will and wont have.
Personally, Id like to see them pass some of rule that doesnt allow these kids to leave early (completing one's education should come before the possibility of making a lot of money in the near term, IMO) but I dont see that ever happening.

If a rule like that were ever established, that would pretty much eliminate top-end talent from going the NCAA route, which would really lessen the skill/talent level of NCAA hockey. Which, in turn, would make it less enjoyable to watch.

Plus, unless Eaves had no talks with these players after the season ended, I would guess that he had a good idea at which players could potentially leave. Maybe he wasn't sure on certain players...like Stepan...but he would have been a fool to think that Stepan was a lock to return after the season that he had. Of course, sometimes players leave completely unexpectedly and throw a monkey wrench in even the best plans. :)

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Thats what I mean, he probably had an idea but wasnt exactly sure what he would have. If a few of the top players leave, it still leaves a pretty big hole in the lineup and you cant really recruit to fill those holes when you dont know who will stay and who wont.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Bought student tickets today, $125 for the full slate of 25 games. Wonderful.

That's a pretty good deal. At St. Cloud we got them for free, but other than free, five bucks a game is about as good as it gets. Beats the hell out of the Gophers half-season ticket package.

Wonderful except for the backup that was caused by football tickets! Seriously though, buying the tickets today really got me geared up for hockey to start.

I still have not figured out how to handle this offseason business.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

I dunno, I guess if hockey was played in summer it would be ideal, but I can wait for hockey season to start if it means having to go boating, grilling out, and sitting on my patio drinking every night. The horror! ;)

You guys who are already eager for the season to start and can't wait have issues - you realize hockey season means ****ty weather, right? :p

Yes it would, but I do think they should put some kind of NHL signing period in place for NCAA players. Like say from mid-March to August 1. That way teams wouldn't put coaches in a bind by signing players two weeks before the season starts or during the season(i.e. Tanabe, Suter, Okposo). It's a rarity for this to happen, but I do think it would put some coaches at ease.

And Stepan gave every indication he was returning. Three weeks prior to him signing he said pretty definitively he would be back on the pipeline show and said he wants the follow the path of Blake Geoffrion as opposed to Kyle Turris. If there was any lingering thought in Stepan's mind of turning pro he should of kept his mouth shut then. It's one thing for an incoming freshman(like Skille) to say he will be here 4 years and then bolt after 2, but it doesn't sit well with me when a player says he will be back and then signs 3 weeks later. Is it that hard to say "I'm planning on coming back, but keeping my options open right now."

Yeah, I'm good on spectator hockey for right now. The Summer flies by fast enough as it is. It's almost the 4th already and from there it's all downhill and before we know it I'll be raking. I'm certainly not wishing away the Summer.

Some of you people need to branch out a bit. ;)

Sounds like he pulled an Earl. ;)

Yeah, I couldn't get into the system until 7:37, got a little antsy, but after that smooth sailing.
