Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Brian makes the losses all the more tolerable as he is great calling the game. I listen to him even when the game is on tV and at the kohl center too.

One of the few positives I see from the program these days...He tweeted how good Kunin is looking, also a positive.

I'm all aboard the Luke Kunin hype train right now. (Admittedly, I have very little to go by.) That got jump started during the All-American Prospects Game, when it sounded like he was looking really good, beyond just the 2 goals. Unfortunately, when thinking about incoming forwards, it's hard not to think about how Brock Boeser was going to be a Badger. :(

I like Posick a lot and he calls a great game, but it was a little sickening listening to him try and coax sugary bits out the the team last year when he'd interview Eaves or Shuchuck, but I get he has to tow the company line. UW needs a quality color guy for all the games. I miss Howie on the radio, he never sugarcoated anything. Back in the glory years, it was Jack Swanson and Mike Lucas on 1070 and Paul Braun and Howie on 1310. Imagine that, enough advertising dollars for 2 stations to compete! I was a 1310 guy, their signal was stronger out here in Dodge County.

I really miss PB and Howie. I know that we get PB for a few games a year, but Howard is still an awesome voice for the game whenever he is on.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Putting this out there for everyone who thought it was the absolute worst thing ever when UW had a team with 13 freshmen last year and that no coach in the history of college hockey had ever or would ever let his recruiting classes get so unbalanced and that anyone who came even close should fall on his sword and resign his position if the administration didn't fire him first. OK, I'm getting a bit over the top, but there were some very strong opinions.

Colorado College is going into this season with 14 freshmen.

Air Force is going with 12 freshmen and 8 sophomores.

Mercyhurst has 11 freshmen and 10 sophomores

Canisius has 11 freshmen and 9 sophomores

Mercyhurst has 11 freshmen and 10 sophomores

Arizona State is going with 15 freshmen, but I think we can give them a bye...but you have to wonder how/when they will even that class out...

And these numbers may or may not be accurate. UW's website lists Davison and McGuire as RS FR last year, USCHO (where I pulled these numbers from) listed them as SO.

The point being, classes get unbalanced, things happen. You can't predict every possible situation that causes a player to not play the full 4 years and there may be changes that could take a decade to balance out.

But we all know that I'm a sheep/homer/apologist/idiot, so go ahead and tell me how these numbers are different.

You want to be in the same conversation as those schools?

Exactly... Good grief it seems we have Baghdad Bob part 3 here.

I'll offer a rebuttal though: how many of those schools listed below (with far fewer resources and outside of CC no hockey pedigree to speak of) will win just 4 games this season? I'm guessing none.

sure things happen...but when they happen every year like clockwork it's indicative of a problem. Nothing wrong with being young but you have to get them to play together and function as a unit. Eaves doesn't do that, eaves hasnt' done that in a long time

As Bonin said do you honestly want to be compared to those teams? If you consider that the group we stand amongst...that's pretty pathetic.

If you're looking for differing numbers, look no further than the win column as every one of those teams will find a way to win more than four games this year.

It's also about the quality of the players, not just the class sizes. A guy like Boeser isn't really a Fr in terms of scoring development. The last 5-6 years how many impact Fr has UW had?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Regarding TV scheduling, it looks like all American Sports Network games on the schedule will be on BTN2GO if your provider is authorized for it.

Denver vs. UW on November 20th.
Minnesota vs. UW on January 23rd.
Penn State vs UW on March 5th.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

With so many forwards I am very curious who will make up the 4th line, (I think the top 3 are a combination of Besse, Frytag, Soleway, Johnson, Kunin, Rockwood, Hughes, Wagner, Malone). The 4th could be Cavallini, McGuire and Ustaski, they all have experience. Aside from these 3, it's a cast of thousands for the 4th line.

Come on, aren't ya getting the least bit excited for the lads? I am. The gals are at home Sat and Sun @ 2 vs OSU.

I am excited for the season/home opener, as I always am. That said, I'm only the 5th most excited I've ever been for a home opener. :/

The Wisconsin Hockey Hour makes its season debut tonight!

Nope, not excited. First time in many, many years. I had a chance to get tickets for free to Friday's game, but would rather support my son/town and attend their football game. I will go Saturday as I paid for the tickets and will use them. It will be interesting to see Kunin and how the goaltending looks or maybe the actual attendance, but really what else is there to be excited about?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

but really what else is there to be excited about?

New players, new coaches, new year, new season!

The thing that concerns me is once you fall out of interest in something, new interests gobble up the time, then I'd say the majority of the time the interest in the old replaced interest is never rekindled. Solo can relate to this with Indycar. Diehard Packer fans' loyalty was rewarded by what Wolf and TT have done....hang in there though the end might not be in site yet, depending on your viewpoint. I have chosen the Packer fan's viewpoint, and there is no wrong veiwpoint.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

There used to be a guy on YouTube who had a lot of mid-2000s TV highlights posted, but I think they were taken down.
I used to have a bunch of stuff on there from '06 onward. I'd record every game to my PC, then edit it down the goals, and post it. Eventually I got nervous about dmca, etc. and took just about everything down. I've still got it all (including a folder named 'DU incident'), but not a good way to show it I suppose.
