Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

The Capitols should be pretty good...(though I looked at the schedule the other day and realized that I won't get to one of their games for a while, because of all the Wisconsin Badgers games!)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

With the lines that they'll be putting out there and the goaltending situation as unsettled as it is, I think we're looking at a sub-10 win year.

Defense depth scares me the most. Who is going to be the 6th Dman? Is Sexton supposed to be any good? We have 17.5 forwards on the roster and 7.5 D on the roster. The .5 being Hurley, what was Eaves thinking bringing in all these forwards with only 7 D (one being a walk-on)?

Wittchow and Schulze are going to be putting up big minutes, if one of those guys goes down for any amount of time UW is in BIG trouble.

It was amazing to me that Schulze could walk after the number of minutes that he put in last year. Having to count on him putting in that kind of time again is not a great strategy, in my book.

He essentially said he wants to roll lines in scrimmages/practices and wants a ton of competition for icetime. The issue is that the competition is for the 4th line only, the top 3 lines I would think based on talent are kinda locked in. And as someone else stated earlier, if you are a talented player, what good does it to do practice against 4th line guys who you are clearly better than already? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

you're climbing a mountain with a bunch of guys you got stuck in the antarctic with. And every once in a while those puppies will crap on the carpet, especially when a unique arrow flies over head. Anyway the true fans will see the difference in our style of play....this will help our guys get better. We recruited some of the kids that went to the student shootout, they will help drive us (to the games) and make us better.

I know, it is hard to fault his late game decision making once you realize the amount of minutes he puts in.

Just ask the Wild about leaning on one player on the D end.

Nothing really makes sense with the recruiting strategy and amount/type of forwards brought in.

The goaltending situation is a big ? Who knows maybe this late pick up is a gem. NAHL isn't a bad league for goalies to develop.

Like I said before, some of the games this year are going to get ugly.

You hate to put a lot on early series, but I think that the first 4 games of the year will be a big predictor of how the team will turn out this year.

Don't look now, but the Badgers are #30 in the country based on the preseason USCHO poll. (#10 in 2014, #3 in 2013, #18 in 2012, #17 in 2011, #13 in 2010, #13 in 2009, #14 in 2008, #15 in 2007, #1 in 2006, #10 in 2005)

(Really have to wonder who those 5 people were that voted for them, and that they voted for Bucky over Ohio State.)

The Wisconsin name still has some pull for 5 people.

That's pretty telling...starting 6 of 10 seasons outside the top 10. Not the end of the world in and of itself generally but illustrative. Shows us what we've known since 07. UW hasn't been a powerhouse under Eaves. And that's part of why they're 21 years and counting since they've been a national power in hockey

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

It's tempting to create a Reddit account just to chime in.

One of us! one of us!

we're pretty dead off season but it's picking up, we're up to 3500+ members, yesterday was our busiest day in a while where we had an AMA (ask me anything) with one of the NMU players.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

This isn't Badgers related, but I figure that the eyeballs that will see this post will likely have more answers than other areas of the internet.

What's the deal with adult open/pick-up hockey, or lack thereof, in the Madison area? There are quite a few rinks that are all a short drive from downtown, but at any given time, it's unlikely that there is pickup hockey available, other than weekly games at the shell. Madison Ice Arena's site says open hockey will resume in the spring, so I assume that goes for both MIA and Hartmeyer. Verona's open hockey schedule is empty. There's nothing in McFarland. Capitol Ice Arena's schedule is empty. It's weird that I can more easily find adult pickup hockey in northern VA (at a much higher price, too) than in the Madison area. So...what's up with that?

Not sure this link works, but if the interactive ticket map for next Friday is any indication, looks like one of the smallest opening crowds ever. Too bad the Badger women can't get the Friday night/Saturday night time slot.

I wonder if they'll have the sign-making station for that game. If so, I might have to grab a few and write "this is what happens when you find a program in the alps."

Based on the glut of premium seats available on the second level and almost everything on the third level available, its pretty wild how many season tickets were not renewed. I remember thinking first row in the third deck was great when I had season tickets as a newbie (2001 ish). Now I could walk up and buy first row of the second deck. Very Very Sad. I think the this will raise red flags in the athletic department.

Wow. That map is absolutely empty. Can't picture that there will be much more than 4,000-5,000 tickets sold for that game (and much less in attendance.) No change in the Wisconsin Channel schedule at this point, so it looks as though the people in the crowd will be the only ones to witness it.
