Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I used to have a bunch of stuff on there from '06 onward. I'd record every game to my PC, then edit it down the goals, and post it. Eventually I got nervous about dmca, etc. and took just about everything down. I've still got it all (including a folder named 'DU incident'), but not a good way to show it I suppose.

If you can do stuff like this...

I can't imagine a reason you couldn't post something with goals from games.

Duly noted. I'll try and repost some stuff when the toddler and newborn allow. Looking back, it's a lot from 06-07 and some from 07-08. After that I changed cable providers and didn't figure out how to hook up my recording apparatus again.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I have chosen the Packer fan's viewpoint, and there is no wrong veiwpoint.

The Packers went from 1972 (John Brockington) to 1989 (Don Majkowski) without winning 10 games in a season yet I watched or listened or attended pretty much every Sunday. (They did manage 8 wins in 5 of those 17 years though. Woo-hoo!)

I suppose I am just pre-disposed to be optimistic each year, so that's where I'm at too. New season, new people, anything can happen. Hope springs eternal!

Elsewhere, I see Jake McCabe has made the Sabre's roster out of camp and Nic Kerdiles was sent back to the Gulls. I think he still remains a few guys away from making the Ducks. Which may or may not reinforce my opinion that he should have stayed here another year. But que sera...

We need a goalie to emerge. Beyond that (barring key injuries) I think they'll probably be ok. Excited to see how it all develops this year.

New people except the one that should have been gone. Hard to be optimistic when you don't like the head man. Not that you have that problem.

OK as in we win more than 4. I guess they will probably be OK then... As far as challenging for anything other than not being at the bottom of the lowly big six hockey conference, I don't believe that to be in the cards.

I don't think I am in the minority that are hoping that the Badger's get their a** handed to them consistently, so that there is no question what so ever in the AD's office that it is time for Coach Excuse to get fired!!! The worst thing that could happen to the Badger hockey program would be leaving it in the hands of Mike Eaves for another year!

I'll be cheering hard every game. I'll be hoping that the newer students will get to see something good on the ice, even if they don't see a packed house. (At least they're in the best spot, atmosphere-wise.) At the same time, the idea of a .500 season worries me, because if the program is stabilized at its current level (apart from last season's record, and even if there are more Luke Kunins on the way and Trent Frederic doesn't get lured away), that's terrible. It's scary, in fact. We need a catalyst.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I was both amused/saddened by the "apocalyptic" crowd size comment. Pretty much spot-on.

That part was why I bothered to share it here. That paragraph was excellently succinct and accurate.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Buy the cheapest ticket available and move to the 200 level section and have the whole section to yourself.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

(Disclosure: Sioux fan) UND has 11 freshmen and 6 sophomores this year. Growing pains and all, but it'll be interesting to see if this season gives you some more reasons to put the youth excuse to bed. Then again, maybe it will validate it.

I visited Madison with my college-searching kid (not an athlete) this summer, and it was awesome. There are no excuses for mediocrity there.

Agree that there's no excuse for a four win season at Wisconsin.

Having said that, UND will not skate 17 underclassmen this year. You have 10 upperclassmen skaters. UW had one upperclassmen in the top 10 Forwards and 2 quality Junior D-men. One of whom missed a third of the season or more. The other probably led the nation in minutes. UND is not in the same situation.

You should still send your kid to Madison though. It is awesome.

It is a great destination for college students, academically and culturally. Has to be an edge for recruitment, even with bonehead hockey players.

That's one of the big reasons they were able to successfully rebuild the football program. Alvarez was big on selling "what we have" to potential recruits.

Some of you may have already seen this, and it won't be new information to anyone here, but Chris Dilks wrote about 5 coaches on the hot seat.

Barry Alvarez: Great football coach. Replacement-level AD.
Right on.

And the author is correct, Alvarez doesn't give 2 ****s about UW hockey, that's why he said to a reporter "i'n not a hockey guy"

I hope UW football wins just 4 games and Bo Ryan leaves midway through round ball season. just out of spite for BA

You'd think so. Of course that all is probably offset by the fact that we can't get the boneheaded hockey players into the school. Sadly for us and them, these days they're banished to places like the NCHC and the new WCHA...

As I've always said, having standards is a poor way to do business.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

My main takeaway from this week's Badger Hockey Digest is that Edward's Flow has taken a huge step forward:
