Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

It's going to be incredibly sad when Wisconsin averages 5,000-6,000 at the games. I don' recognize this team, the atmosphere, the attitude, none of it.

let's remember some of the good times!

Awesome! I haven't seen the first two (hooray for Bradley Hall!), and I've spent a lot of time looking for UW hockey footage online (especially of the Coliseum days)!
While we're at it...

I particularly enjoyed this article, simply titled "Euphoria" - http://www.uscho.com/2006/07/27/euphoria/

Video 1 and video 2 from a band member from the 2013-14 sweep over Minnesota. I know it's not from the "glory days," but everyone was positively electric from well before to well after the game, and remains my favorite UW game I've attended.

This was cool to see.

How about the most recent All-American? And I was actually here to see that!

There used to be a guy on YouTube who had a lot of mid-2000s TV highlights posted, but I think they were taken down.

Nice!

The 1990 championship highlights were taken down along with the 99-00 highlights with heatley, reinprecht et al...

I'm guessing wpt is sitting on a goldmine of UW hockey highlights.

I have a few on vhs myself, if I had a program to upload and edit I'd post highlights on YouTube with disclaimers

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

This isn't Badgers related, but I figure that the eyeballs that will see this post will likely have more answers than other areas of the internet.

What's the deal with adult open/pick-up hockey, or lack thereof, in the Madison area? There are quite a few rinks that are all a short drive from downtown, but at any given time, it's unlikely that there is pickup hockey available, other than weekly games at the shell. Madison Ice Arena's site says open hockey will resume in the spring, so I assume that goes for both MIA and Hartmeyer. Verona's open hockey schedule is empty. There's nothing in McFarland. Capitol Ice Arena's schedule is empty. It's weird that I can more easily find adult pickup hockey in northern VA (at a much higher price, too) than in the Madison area. So...what's up with that?

Sun Prairie has some nice adult leagues in a few different skill sets.

Check it out, Fall/Winter league is about to start.....as in the draft skate for new players to see your rank is Sunday night.

I had asked WPT about this at one point and between them and Channel 3, they had a good deal of Wisconsin Hockey video from the years (not sure if Channel 3 has it any more,) but weren't doing anything with it. When I was living up there I always wanted to just go into the WPT archives and get as many of those games from the 80's as I could.

I wish I had video or audio of the Robbie Earl hat trick game over North Dakota. I don't think I have ever seen or heard the Kohl Center anywhere near as loud as it was when he completed his hattrick in OT. Memories....

It would be awesome to get dvd's of some of those games or alternatively the UW would allow wpt to post some highlights.

The Earl Hattie vs Nodak was amazing. I was at a party that night and had the host put the game on tv

I was at the games where David Hukalo buried game winners to send the Sioux packing. I wish I had those games on dvd

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I only have the 2010 3OT Cornell game along with HD copies of the semi and final from 2010 at this point.

Also a friend got me copies of the '83, '90 games (along with '92... grrr) but I can't track those down.

I would probably give up a kidney for video of the 1983 triple overtime game against North Dakota, as that is my first and most vivid memory of a game after becoming a fan as a kid.

I have a vhs of the 1990 championship game and dvd's of the 92 and 06 championship games. I'd like to find more like the 92 semi with vs Michigan and some of the 93 and 94 playoff games for UW. I'll investigate further

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I wish I remembered the absolute specifics, but UW has some issues posting a lot of highlights from the past because of their agreement with Learfield Sports, who technically is in charge of that stuff. I really wish I remembered the little details, but things aren't super straightforward when it comes to rights to video footage.

I might check their open hockey sessions out at some point. I've played in a Sunday night league at McFarland the last two summers, and I've really enjoyed it. I decided not to play the winter session, because I could save a bunch of money (and hopefully buy inline hockey skates in the near future) and still play on Sunday nights on campus. I was just surprised to see how little pickup/open hockey time was available, especially at Madison Ice Arena, both during the summer and during the winter. (I did go and play an open hockey session at Hartmeyer late this summer...it largely consisted of Madison Capitols AAA players, who for some reason have trouble playing hockey in a casual environment - they don't know the difference between "not taking a pickup game too seriously" and "completely screwing around.")

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

KaMiGo.

TimothyA obviously doesn't work for the administration and to be honest while he and I and others have plenty of ideas (just peruse the Wisconsin threads, you'll find them) it's not our JOBS to come with the ideas for the admin though we offer them up on here frequently. If you think his tone was hostile and aggressive I'd argue its an honest and forthright tone. Negative or pessimistic? Perhaps, yes. But this Wisconsin AD and the entire hockey admin has done nothing to allay the fears and concerns from the fanbase in recent seasons and again, go back through our threads, many of us have offered ideas and then followed through with respectful emails.

IMO JK and BA SHOULD be receiving negative and angry emails from the Hockey fanbase, they're a big part of the problem. What can you say really?

In what universe does a coach with Eaves' resume (played for Badger Bob, won an NCAA title as a player then coach) begin to flounder on the recruiting trail, develop negative relationships with HS coaches and parents ensuring further recruiting obstacles and perceptions of negativity, stumble on the ice, lose recruits and on and combine that with the lousy administrative decisions to ax the Blue Line Club, to sanitize the Kohl Center and render it bereft of atmosphere (no banners from kids, fewer band members, stupid championship ring replacing winning banners, no gophers on a stick et al), in what universe does this coach survive? In what other big money school would this be allowed to happen?

People have a right to be ****ed off and I hope for **** sure the Rafalski's and Richter's, Granato's and Chelios', Andringa's and Tancill's and Zent's are calling Madison and giving Barry what's for. It's well deserved.

If we didn't object to the program falling so far from national prominence we'd be like Cubs fans. Who cares in Chicago if the Cubs win or lose? Virtually no-one, but they go to the games anyway, and that's how that team can pay lip service to turning the corner, they'll rake in the money regardless.

Wisconsin Hockey is better than that. Or it very well should be.

I've sent JK two emails, both respectful in tone. Rest assured if Eaves stumbles even further I'll be contacting the admin in a very foul mood. Enough is enough. This team hasn't been a real national power (for more than a 1 or 2-year spurt) since the end of the 1994. 21 years is far too long to be stuck in limbo.

Third re-post for Solo:

One would think the Badgers all time leading scorer would have a great hockey system for his alma matter. He has not over his tenure. One would think he could adapt. He has not. One would think he has made in roads to Wisconsin hockey coaches/advisors and has not alienated them. Not the case. One would think he could balance his recruiting classes. What is the learning curve on that issue? I'm not as concerned about alienating people versus his inability to change his style of play to attract top notch recruits on an annual basis.

I'll give Eaves some slack losing his top two assistants after winning the natty championship. I will not give him any slack not rehiring top notch assistants within three years after losing them.

It does not help having BA as Eaves AD. The three things important to BA is: BA, BA, BA. What has he done to add value to the Wisconsin Hockey program? Nothing. Should a good coach in the past be AD and make decisions on a program? It depends whether the AD can make good decisions as AD for the program's benefit. Look at the pro's..... Mike Holmgren is a fantastic coach. Bad GM. I use the same analogy with BA as AD.

Wisconsin Hockey will not improve until they fire Eaves and BA retires (because he is untouchable).

BA is also screwing up the Bo Ryan situation and he screwed up with BB (he lost touch with him, not that I'd too sad he left) and Gary Anderson. Women's BB is a dumpster fire, there's no reason UW should have a crappy women's BB team with that building and that school. He made the right move with the VB coach. Hopefully his bosses take an honest and critical look at the state of UW athletics, he has more misses than hits.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Since he's working for UW, will he be objective or just spew the company line like Lucas and Lepay do?

Tow the line as he is employed by them now.....

I'm sure he won't be printing anything about coaches calling us fans, idiots.
