Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Count me in on the pass on Mark Johnson crowd. The reason he didn't get the job when Sauer got a gentle nudge out the door is because the program had deteriorated and Johnson as the lead assistant had a significant hand in the lackluster recruiting around that time. If you subtract out the 2 Heatley years (yes they did land him and he was an Eichelesque landscape changing talent....but he was a fall in your lap legacy recruit that you shouldn't screw up the recruitment of to begin with), Sauer had losing records 4 out the other last 6 years he was here with Johnson at his right hand. I have never understood the Johnson love that has been an undertow in the program from day one of Eaves being hired. I hope if Johnson doesn't get hired as Eaves replacement, that that same undertow is not there for the next coach.

I'm writing MJ off based on his recruiting. That's harsh to say but **** those years were pretty ugly and he certainly could have turned that ship around with great recruiting.

He was an amazing player for UW and team usa and a great player in the NHL, he's also become a great coach for the women's team. But given his experience as a recruiter for the men under Sauer I'd be skeptical at best...my thought would be it could turn into a Bart Starr/Packers situation if he were hired. How long would they retain him if he's .500 or worse? Probably longer than most due to history...

Agree. I'm ****ed about this historically bad season, on the heels of underperforming in last year's tournament, but the late Sauer years mostly sucked too (Heatley years aside), and so I'm skeptical of bringing back an assistant from that regime, even if Johnson has become an amazing women's coach.

I like seeing Oz, Blaisi, and Don Granato on the speculation lists, even if it is just fan speculation and we may yet be stuck with Eaves for another year.

Saw this posted on buckyville and loved it: More letters in the word idiot than wins.

That would make a great t shirt if it wasn't talking about UW hockey.

Nice work Coach Eaves....

2014-15 All-Big Ten Hockey Team

No First Team Players - Check
No Second Team Players - Check
No Honorable Mention Players - Check
No All-Freshman Team Players - Check

Hey Coach....there are only 6 teams in your conference and your recruits couldn't claim even one spot of the 26 players who made these teams?

Oh one last item......both Michigan and Minnesota placed more players on the First and Second All-Conference team than you had victories!!

Barry... Please hire OZ ASAP!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Let's look at the bright side, since the Badgers are not in the WCHA anymore, we didn't have to travel for the 1st round AGAIN like so many other times during Eaves tenure.

This use to really **** me off that Bucky couldn't finish in the top 5 of that conference every year.

Instead we get to travel to Detroit for one game!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

What are they going to concede in the 4th overtime?
You never know, Red might get so frustrated he may decide to concede his goalie. Then it would be just a matter of one of your players being able to hit the empty net. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

My daughter decided that Bucky looked silly without undergarments. Seemed apropos (or is it apropoos? :p), in light of all of the crapping on the floor this season.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

How did this happen to be honest? One year and the Badgers go from a #1 seed to... Well this disaster. Im a Denver fan and if somebody would enlighten me as to what the hell happened considering Rumpel is still there would be appreciated. Oh and is Patty for sure fired after this season?

Kids are great.

But ironic might be a better fit than apropos. This year Bucky's got nothing down there to cover up.

So far. Maybe they'll descend this weekend.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I heard Eaves on the radio today say that the team is playing their best hockey right now just in time for the big 10 tourney. Really? What is he smokin because maybe he should share that with us idiot fans to ease our suffering?

Shut out in 5 of 7 games is the best this team has?

I just checked the barn and there is no hay in it.

As I wrote after the game on Saturday...
The UW coaching staff has been preaching improvement to the media and fans over the second half of the season. The only problem? This team hasn't been getting any better.

Over Wisconsin's final seven games of the season, the Badgers had an 0-6-1 record and were shut out in five of seven games. UW scored just four total goals and were 1-for-26 on the power play with an atrocious kill-rate of 74 percent on the PK.

Even if you tried, it's hard to have numbers worse than that.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Good summation Chuck/Andy.

I understand that Eaves can't roll into a presser and say "Yeah we suck. Thursday is our last game of the season. We can't score and so we have almost no chance of winning. Thanks."

The issue I have is that what he says is so blatantly in contradiction to what our eyes as fans have witnessed for the past 6 months. He easily could have said, "While our record the last few months doesn't indicate it, this team has been making improvements and giving their best effort, both in games and in practice. I don't know what is going to happen this weekend, but I know the 19 kids who take the ice thursday in Detroit have nothing to lose, and are going to give it their all. I'm proud of them." Just don't obviously lie to everyone. I am losing more respect by the day for Eaves because he won't face the reality of the situation and be honest. He lives in a delusional world at this point.

Can you skate or at least run a practice from the bench?
