Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I worked at the KC doing these conversions as an undergrad. A lot of late nights, but fun nonetheless. I got to go out on the ice and take the goal off as the Zamboni came around a few times. It was before the era of the matching crew jackets though. The most annoying parts were assembling the bench/scoring/penalty box areas in hockey, all those bleepin' folding chairs, and using a mallet to get the lines on the bball court pieces to match up.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Watching the Badgers get shut out wasn't great, but it was still a decent senior night, in my opinion. After "Varsity" and the usual center-ice stick salute, the seniors came down to the student section, which was a great moment. I don't think I've seen that before in four years.

I was hoping they would do that. Too bad Paape couldn't join in.

It really felt like the seniors and the students recognized that tonight was about more than just another game this season. (More students than we usually see after a loss stayed for "Varsity.")

Also, there was a great singing of "Happy Birthday" for Joel Rumpel, which he seemed to enjoy...but probably not as much as seeing Lucy Cunningham get recognized!

That was touching.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Rumps was a great goalie for the badgers. Too bad he didn't have more around him for his time here. He stood on his head multiple times this year. And as horrid as four wins are, there would be less without him in goal.

He won't be missed until next year when he isn't there to keep us in the game.....

That's good work out of the students

Stand on his head one more time and get rid of Michigan on Thursday! Im a Buckeye fan and was disappointed in the result of last years final but enjoyed watching Rumple and the team you guys put on the ice. Good Luck on Thursday!

Wow. He's had an entire season to contemplate what's gone horribly wrong with his team and he wants even MORE time to consider?

I thought the hard guy would have all the answers, ya know? Mountains, puppies, etc, it's pretty simple, they forgot their climbing equipment and/or whatever other dumb metaphor he'll invariably come up with now...

What's wrong with the following: the kids played hard. We're very proud of our seniors in particular but we failed them as coaches, myself and the staff failed the kids on every level.

Take responsibility coach eaves, time for the tough guy to man up and admit his failure

what? Maybe he has whatever life threatening illness Lucia had during his down years a few years back. He just seems like he isn't even paying attention/doesn't give a **** anymore. "What are you gonna do, fire me? cha-ching, I'll take that 800k paycheck for sucking". This staff has just been strange all season long.

He was probably worried of saying something offensive being that one of his assistants was guilty of that recently. Plus the recent letter he drafted making a reference to letting emotions getting the better of you. Too soon? Still, it comes off as clueless.

A betting man might go with a hunch that those words came from a man who knows his time is up.

Sorry but I haven't followed this thread at all, but I have to ask: If Eaves is fired after they (probably) lose on Thursday, who are the front runners to replace him? In particular I am wondering if former Badger great and 1980 Olympian and current Wisconsin women's coach Mark Johnson might be a candidate.

Maybe we're giving that statement more scrutiny than it deserves, but I don't think I'd want recruits to my school seeing that from the head coach under these circumstances.

Assuming you're serious (and I question that only because you bring up Mark Johnson who failed as a recruiting coordinator for the Men's side under Sauer, during his final 1 or 2 seasons in that position he didn't even leave the state to watch recruits play or visit etc)...there are no front runner's as nothing has happened and no-one credible would write about such a list if in fact it exists.

You only have fan wish lists. This fan's wish list of candidates in order

1. Don Granato w/Tony Granato as assistant or vice versa
2. Mark Oseicki
3. go out of the UW Alum pool and make a run after a guy like Enrico Blasi or?
4. Any junior level coach showing promise?

Are there any other ex-badgers coaching? What's Rafalski up too?

Mike Hastings is my #1. I could be totally off, but what a turn around he has done at Mankato. Plus he comes from the USHL and that helps too.

I still like Don with his USHL background and NTDP ties. Of course, I wouldn't mind Hastings either. Not that either will happen, as I think the only situation that will result in a coaching staff change is if Eaves walks away (with a reduced settlement package) and that is incredibly unlikely.

Yes I was being serious! I was not aware of Johnson's history as the men's recruiting coordinator but thanks for filling me in. Good luck to Wisconsin in the future, except of course when they're playing the Gophers! :)
