Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

As of about an hour ago, tonight's game is sold out. Tonight is the first sellout since senior night in 2012.

Also, Blake Geoffrion (and the Big Ten hockey trophies) will be there. I remember when he was back for the Huntsville series last year...it'll look a wee bit different.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

My favorite quote from the Eaves presser: "We've played much better games and lost."

Sums it up. I really think the win can be chalked up to a bit of luck, but mostly some maturity and patience in the eye of the storm. Settled in and quit turning the puck over, and played with calm confidence the last ten minutes. Good call out by Chuck on Wittchow. He seemed completely unphased by situations and just went about his job last night in a workmanlike manner. Good step forward. Kerdiles not only gave us an boost in offensive pressure, he just does so many little things right away from the puck that affect the whole game. He looked pretty sharp despite the long lay off.

Gotta get after it right out of the gate tonight. Badgers are very capable of getting a big win.

They played much better in certain parts of other games and lost. Take Saturday vs. OSU. In many areas, they "outplayed" the Buckeyes, but they didn't score enough goals. Not winning the battles in front of the net, and not cashing in on scoring chances, are what I would call "not scoring," "missing shots," or "not picking up rebounds" rather than "bad luck."

Rumpel playing well was Rumpel playing well. He's a part of the team. There were a few instances in which one defensmen was beaten, and his partner bailed him out. Coaches are more likely to say stuff like that anyway, to make their team feel like they'll have to be clicking on all cylinders and pull off an upset, not just repeat what they already did.

Whether it's right or not, I can't help but read all your quotation marks like this, :

When I write a medical note on a patient, we are supposed to put the way they describe things in quotes. Like when someone describes "burning" pain or they were "shooting up smack." Every single time I think of this clip.

Back to your regularly scheduled program. Go badgers!

So you're saying they force you to treat gophers? Yikes!

You should win some kind of humanitarian award. They say it takes a special type of person, I know I just couldn't do it.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Dang was that fun.

So nice to see the place full to the rafters and the Gopher contingent was nowhere near what I've seen in years past when we've sold out when they're in town. Even if it was a smaller group of Goof fans, it was nice to send them home with a broom whipping.

Rumps was silky smooth.

Looked like Kerdilles and Zengerle played about 15 of the last 16 minutes with Besse and then Mersch joining them. Herculean effort on their part.

Wish they would put more pucks on net instead of trying that extra pass. Zengerle is by far the worst offender in this regard, but several others passed on open opportunities.

Kerdilles shot was a heck of a snap shot from the point. It zinged man, it zinged. Goes to show... put the **** puck on net!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Oh yeah, and the anthem with the big flag and the live singer and the students noticeably singing along...

Just got chills again.

One of the best anthems I've ever been in attendance for.

I REALLY like some of the things the athletic department is doing to make these more of an "event." The light show (such as it is), the steam, the anthem, the spotlight on Phil and his hairy counterpart, the allowance of the Sieve signs...

Credit where credit due. It's good stuff.

I hope people notice and come back.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Overall it felt like a pretty even game. But the badgers definitely dictated the tempo of the game. Huge weekend for Rumpel, planned fantastic yesterday and today. The difference I saw tonight vs last night was the forecheck. Last night the gophers had too many defensive zone breakout that were unforced. Tonight there were constantly two forecheckers deep and it gave the badgers many more offensive opportunities.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Well Badgers, I don't want to say told you so, but... No wait... I DO want to say it!

Badgers a different team with Kerdiles in the line up. Just does so many good things to help this team win.

Rumpel is a wall. And just so calm in net. Passes Wilcox (who was excellent as well) in both save % and GAA and climbing.

Big step handling the loss of McCabe, who was playing great, but just cannot take that penalty. (Of course in a way I can't blame him for blasting a gopher right in front of him. Rau practically begged to get nailed.) Took the wind out of our sails the rest of the second, but rallied and got the job done in the 3rd.

Great wins. I'd say against #1 Minnesota, but of course they won't be #1 anymore! Badgers control 50 minutes tonight and move up to #8 in PWR.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Well Badgers...

Forgot to sign my rep to you. What you said about McCabe crushing Harley... something about a bag of dicks in a whorehouse...

:D:D:D

I said it in October and I will say it til the season is over.....Wisconsin is a Great Hockey Team, not good, not alright, nothing but a Great Hockey Team!

I guess I can't disagree after what I saw tonight - I just think that it shouldn't be that way.

Unfortunately (for us), he looks pro ready. He stood out and was very noticeable tonight and it has been building all season. He's gone after this season.

:):):):):)

UW nuked my pessimism this weekend.

Rumpel's calm demeanor and great play, Schulze continuing to come into his own, Wittchow seems like he's taking a next step, Besse/Zengerle/Kerdiles kicked ***. Really the entire team played very well tonight and with an attitude it seemed. So great to see.

Went to the Nitty Gritty prior to the game tonight and it was good to see some of the old timers there!

I actually had an alcohol detox who wore a gopher jersey on admission. It was the single most important moment in my professional career because I was able to treat the patient like anyone else ;)

I will use that example on my application to the government regarding treating under-served individuals to repay my 200k+ in loans

Well ****. If we nuked your pessimism, I would call that a good weekend! ;)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Congrats Badger fans on a good weekend of well played hockey. Despite any impression some of you may have gotten from other posts of mine I posted tonight in the Wisc vs Minn topic I have a lot of respect for Wisconsin. I throw down hard against Wisconsin fans partly out of respect, tough Midwesterners can handle it, right?!

So as I was saying...

this sweep couldn't have come at a better time with Wisco sitting near the cut off line for getting into the NCAA tourney, BEFORE the games this weekend. Not only will the Ws vs the highly rated Gophers help out UW's RPI and win/loss and all the other things factored into the PWR, but it should give the players some wind in their sails for the rest of the regular season.

Here's looking forward to a possible rubber match in the Big Ten Tourney that hopefully will not be needed for UW to get into the tourney. Don't want you all getting desperate now. I'm hoping you'll be all over-confident going into the tourney, and maybe my Gophers will have kicked themselves in the arses and pulled themselves out of this slump of late and will give you all a good run for your money. Could go either way, but obviously I'm biased and feel the Gophers will win if they do meet up. I just hope the NCAA tourney selection committee doesn't jam us together in the same regional like they often like to do with Western teams, it would be so much more enjoyable if we don't have to meet up until the Natl Championship Title Game.

Would be nice to rep the B1G well in this first year of our league's existence. And I'd rather not have the Wolverines there, just not as much fun. I'm sure you would mostly agree with that?!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Kerdiles....someone in the recruiting thread said the Ducks are loaded at forward, so I'm hoping that keeps him in Madison one more year. Plus I'm sure he could use a little more strength conditioning, eh? ;). I smell a Hobey, Nick. Stick around and make yourself a Legend.

Soleway is becoming a family favorite. He crushed rodents all weekend, and that's not an exaggeration. One shift Thursday, he hit a rodent at the near boards, hit one in front of the net, and hit one on the far boards, bing bam boom. The great thing is he's got scoring talent and we'll se him on the top 2 lines the next 3 years. On a slight tangent, it's interesting that when some players have a chance to him someone hard, they choose not to.

Rumpel is in the ZONE. I hope Eaves doesn't mess around next year with the tandem thing and just run him from the start. Once he gets out of that, he just takes off in his performance.

I was not disappointed in Thursday's crowd because that's what I expected for a Thursday game. It's confusing that the AD would botch attendance/accounts receivable with a Thursday game. They would have drawn 12,000 easy if it was a normal Friday.

Gurt's post reminded me to comment on the atmosphere from the Saturday OSU game, the one and only men's game for me to attend this year.....I liked the historical accomplishments in the ring. I prefer the old intro to the new one. Sandman really gets my blood pumping. I like the dimmed lights/smoke/light logos all over the ice. They did a poor job getting the pompoms handed out. We came in gate C and no one said anything to us to get some or just handed some to us. Even though "We hate pompoms!" they added a neat feel to the rink, I'd like to see those more frequently. And kudos for allowing the giant Sieve banner.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

one of the greatest weekends of Badger hockey ever....
the atmosphere created by Minnesochoka being #1 can never be replaced.....
have not heard the Kohl Center that loud possibly ever...
Joe Rumpel has arrived...
and the rest of the team are hitting stride....
gonna be a great ride all the way to Philly.....
