Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

If Kerdiles is ready to go tonight, do we see him at wing on Zengerle's line?

Baggot is saying the line up is unchanged with Kerdiles listed as an extra skater. So that means... well, nothing really. Apparently we won't know until game time.

As far as where he plays if he does, it seems easiest to put him there, but he could go anywhere, including possibly centering the third line and putting Labate back up top, assuming Eaves still wants to keep Dahl's line together.

Incidentally, Baggot is also spouting stats about Badgers road record, such as Badgers outscored 31-13 on the road, and minus numbers for top guys...

Well, yes. But we gave up 16g in two games, so do you think just maybe those stats are skewed a bit?

Well, yes. But we gave up 15g in two games, so do you think just maybe those stats are skewed a bit?

I take the whole poor road record aspect with a grain of salt. First, look at who we've played: BC, BU, Miami, Michigan. Second, Rumpel didn't/couldn't play in at least 4 of those games.

That being said, last game was extremely frustrating to watch, and they need to step it up and at least get a point or two (or three) tonight.

Well to be fair, their record on the road without the series in Boston is 1-4 while being outscored 15-8. Also last night was pretty bad from what I saw (only caught the second and third periods).

Yeah the road teams they've faced have been fairly good opponents.

Uhhh, BU and Miami are both one loss away from being in last place in their respective conference.

We also dominated BU in everything but the scoreboard. Then we just couldn't score on Miami, it happens.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Per Baggott, Kerdiles officially out tonight. Same lines as last night.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

What's with these too many men calls? I think I recall maybe one or two of those all season. Now there's 4 in these 4 periods?

Badgers playing with a chip on their shoulders tonight. Despite all the pk time, feels like momentum is going Bucky's way. Doing all the little things we weren't doing last night and look like a different team after 1. Now let's stay out of the box and put some pucks in the net in the 2nd.

Let's GO RED!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

As I've said before, people need to evaluate the game instead of just the result. While the road record is obviously not acceptable, Wisconsin played well at Mariucci and should have beaten BU. On the other side of the coin, Wisconsin was out-played in both games vs. Michigan in Madison but came away with two wins and they were the greatest thing since sliced bread again.

Full blown Badger Band here in Milwaukee, Leckrone and all.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

It's been a long time since I've seen two Badger goals of that quality. Mersch with the playground move was unbelievable. Passes to himself behind his back and between the defender's legs and then just hammers it inside the far post.

Zengerle just working hard to create an opportunity gets dragged down and then is as cool as the Bob Johnson Rink on the penalty shot, waiting, waiting and waiting, before calmly sticking it five hole.

Good stuff!

Now let's finish strong, boys!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Eaves: “How many power plays did we have?”
Baggot: “You had one.”
Eaves: “To their how many?”
Baggot: “I think 6.”
Eaves: “Wow, isn’t that strange?”

Now, I'm not saying I agree necessarily, since I believe you make you own breaks. But, I did think UW deserves more than one power play.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

We are now third in the big6. Pairwise i would assume out the ncaa's at this point.

Was anyone thinking we would be in this position at this point in the season?

I didn't. This is disappointing at best.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Is it cool if we take all six points Thursday and Friday? Unlike you folks we like regular season titles. Also wouldn't mind watching you play on Thursday for the conference tournament.

Wisconsin is 13th in the PairWise.

I was amazed that Michigan didn't get at least a few interference/holding calls. I saw a LOT of clutching and grabbing tonight.

Not that we would've necessarily done anything with more power plays, but there's a chance we could've won in regulation instead of ending in a draw.

I thought the penalties were about right to tell the truth. The picks Wisconsin routinely ran finally got called late in the game. Honestly, I thought Michigan deserved to win.

I expected to be a few games better. Wins against the gofers would probably put us solidly in the top ten, looking at a two seed for the time being. But I'd really recommend focusing on the play of the team, and whether or not we are improving. Eaves is a Bob Johnson disciple and keeping in mind the ol' Badger won exactly one regular season conference title in his tenure, the design is to be the best team at the end of the year. Because the team is aiming for a higher, sometimes more complex, level of play then most programs, a Badger team's potential is seldom fully realized until late in the year. Whether we reach the level we're striving for remains to be seen, but the focus is on getting better every week. There are signs all over that this team is doing so. Not an excuse but it is significant that Barnes and Kerdiles average 2 points/game between them. If you put either of them on all the breakaway chances that Navin and Paape had, it's likely a different weekend.
Regardless, even with them I'd have been satisfied with a split this weekend. Michigan is just hard to play against and we haven't played on a small sheet in months.

I'm very encouraged that Rumpel is proving himself capable of being a championship level netminder. Goaltending maybe the biggest key to tournament play and I feel like Rump's is getting better and better. He is capable of stealing games for us. The pieces are all here, they have to continue to come together down the stretch. And get/stay healthy, obviously.

Check your calendar. It's February. Despite all your talent, it's about time for the goofs annual slide toward mediocrity to begin, isn't it? Badgers will be happy to help you get off to a good start on that project again this year.

Congrats to you on living up to the username! Well done!
