Puck has been and still is bouncing everywhere. Noticed it right away.

*Sigh.* Even the CoverItLive thread was disappointing (thanks to a couple of trolls impersonating other people, disrupting conversation). At least I can fix that: just don't participate in those. Fixing tonight's issues is tougher, because, well, there's another team trying to prevent that. I wish they could do what they did against Michigan in Madison. That second Michigan goal was just heartbreaking.

Dear Wisconsin.
Thank you so much for playing that style of hockey. The flow, passing, and costant movement makes it very entertaining to watch! Game goes fast, too.

I know the game didn't turn out the way you wanted- but it was fun.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Frustrating game all around. Couldn't bury any shots down low and seemed to pay for any defensive mistake. Had an opportunity to make up ground on the Gophers and completely squandered it.

If Kerdiles is close, he has to go tomorrow night.

I'm a little nervous about the volatility of the Pairwise right now. One loss dropped us to 15 and another would certainly put us out of the tournament (if the season ended today). Just a few weeks ago, we'd have been flirting with a 2 seed.

Don't let Gopher fans hear you or else you'll be run right off this board.

Obviously a two-way street as well.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Win or lose tonight, our PWR fate is probably more closely tied to beating MN next week. For a shot at the B1G title we need to win tonight, and again, more importantly, beat MN next week, but to me, the B1G title isn't what this season is about. With or without Kerdiles, I think we can beat Michigan tonight if our blue liners play the way they're capable of. No excuse for Faust and Drake to give up the plays they did, and no excuse for the number of poor decisions made on breakout passes that went awry. And though it was perhaps a weak call, captain Frankie can't take a hooking penalty to start the game off. We cannot take cheap penalties. We need to roll lines --even if they are depleted.

Thought Rumpel was outstanding in net again. Zengerle again played at a high level and I was pleased with the play of the fourth line. Beyond that, lost too many battles and turned it over way too much. Got uncharacteristically killed on faceoffs, which again alludes to losing too many small battles. We are a better team then that with or without Barnes and Kerdiles.

I suspect the plan all along was to get Nic in one game this weekend. Give him a chance to play before MN next week and still try to limit his exposure by half to re-injury. We missed him and Barnes, but still no reason we should not have been better last night.

Good news is that we CAN be better tonight. Big opportunity for the boys.

Random and disjointed thoughts....

In the 3rd period, was Besse on the Z2 line or was what I saw just a line change in progress a couple times? There was one play in the 2nd
period where Besse showed some great wheels along the boards. I'd say Little didn't seem too impactful on that line.

Penalties...Labate's slash penalty was dumb too. It was nice to see McCabe clean his game up.

PP......AAAAHHHHHH!

Faust and Drake got a little exposed last night, both in clearing out in front of the net and in not moving the puck fast enough behind the net. In general in the first period the team moved the puck quickly and with poise, but in the 2nd and 3rd period, they moved the puck quickly w/o poise, kind of in a fearful way.

Cavallini certainly looks like he belongs out there. He's involved in a couple decent scoring chances per game and defensively that line in general looks good. I'm excited to see him in a bigger role net year.

Despite playing poorly in the 2nd and 3rd periods as a team, UW had 2 great chances to get back to even with Zengerlee and Mersch but Nageldude made some great saves.

I just can't get used to the 3 point system.

Note to self....always read the 5th Q before posting......

Eaves says Kerdiles might play tonight after not playing last night. Eaves must have been hoping UW could win w/o Kerdiles to buy that extra week of recovery. Now that they lost, "in his mind he is playing". Please don't rush him back.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

I hope they don't rush Nic back if he's not quite ready. Tonight is not a must win and there's a lot of season left where we'll need him, including next weekend.

Hope they're smart about this.

Hmmm... was at the rink early this morning and tried replying to this on my phone but it apparently was sucked up by the Zamboni. Surprisingly, there were no Badger recruiters there to watch me skate. There was, however, a man who smelled faintly of goat that seemed to be paying close attention. Don't worry though Badger fans, obviously I'd burn my skates and my entire CCM AcuFlex collection before signing with the Evil Empire. But I digress.

I can't imagine last night's outcome plays any part whatsoever in determining whether or not Kerdiles skates tonight. As I said, I suspect he was slated for one game this weekend to get back in the swing of things before MN comes in, and that game was planned for tonight barring any odd setback. No one is going to risk pushing Kerdiles to play too soon, regardless of any game outcome. Much more likely he just sat last night out of an overabundance of caution. He's been out what? 5 weeks? 5 weeks is a long time in today's world to recover. If he plays tonight it's because he's ready to go, not because we lost last night. Our worst outcome this weekend still leaves us .500 against MI for the PWR. A tie tonight or better obviously edges us ahead.

By the same token separated shoulders can be weird and re-injury can always be a possibility. Ultimately, being ready for MN is more important than this weekend and there's no reason to think the staff isn't completely aware of all this.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

I got the opportunity to go to Milwaukee for tonight's Admirals game. Apparently, there will be a part of the Badger Band performing and watching the game. I'm not sure if this means they'll get the kind of free reign they get at the Kohl Center, or if it will only be for a between-periods thing http://www.milwaukeeadmirals.com/home/news/2014/01/0129-promos.html

Gee, the band can travel to Milwaukee for an Admirals game, but can't seem to make it to ANY Wisconsin Badger women's hockey games so far this year.

Good point.

If Kerdiles is ready to go tonight, do we see him at wing on Zengerle's line?
