Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

A few things from Saturday's game...

1) Obviously should have swept coz...

2) Bucky put on a puck possession clinic. Could have had 4 or 5 more goals. Believe shots were 14-2 at one point.

3) Peterson had a nice bounce back game. Wasn't tested much, but didn't ever look shaky. Was making a real point of watching the puck into his glove. Was kind of like a little leaguer first learning with his glove way out front and then closing the mitt on the puck. Good for him.

4) Besse looked to be floating a bit. I would have guessed that a little guy like that would have had to rely on an energy game growing up and I didn't see that on Saturday. He got a goal, but it was more right place, right time than anything else. Being a freshman, I expect him to be up and down for a bit though.

5) Soleway is a beast. On the 4th goal (pp) I watched him set up in front of their net and knock Perrault (sp?) off balance who then got ticked and started to try and retaliate. Moments later, the puck went right between those two and into the net. Keep planting that big boy right in front and he'll drive the other team nuts!

That's it. Good game (for us) and the atmosphere was as good as it can be these days.

I was sufficiently entertained. :)

Soleway plays like he put in a year or two in the Iron league.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Funny to see people praising Solelway so early after Wisconsin fans destroyed him when he committed.

I don't remember anyone destroying him - I certainly didn't anyway.

Glad you get your tee hee moment though.

I don't remember the destroying either. I think there was concern that his stats were inflated playing in the BCHL (which is standard), but beyond that not sure.

I wish UW had more guys his size on the ice who were forwards and had offensive skills. UW has had too many mid-size guys over the years IMO w/ varying ability.. Didn't Eaves ever play Ice Hockey for nintendo? You need small speedy guys, mid size guys and giants to be successful. Unless you take the Russians who someone win w/ all big guys probably because of their steriod use. I might have to bust out my nintendo just to play this game.

Destroyed may be an overstatement, but there was definitely negative reaction by some over Wisconsin bringing in another "grinder"....just made me chuckle a bit.

He's not a "grinder."

He's a power forward.

BIG difference.

I don't know if it is just me, but I have been impressed with Navin so far this year. It is about time he started to play to his abilties. As for Soleway, I liked when he committed, UW needs more big guys in the line-up. And my gosh can he hit people.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

guy is going to be a beast in a year or two. Fun to watch.

Yeah, well, like they say west of the Red, "Let's see what he does in the handshake line."

Not me! I have been a consistent proponent of more Canadians all along. My only knock on Soleway was his age. As a University we should be more considerate of the financial difficulties that can arise when going to school in another country. Providing our Canadian student athletes the option of combining their graduation and 30th birthday parties is just teaching sound fiscal practices in my view.

That's correct isn't it burd?

That wouldn't be me as I enjoy the hitters. They are my favorite to watch on the ice and I need someone to replace Ryan Little from 2012-13 (Sean is doing a good job this year). Will he supplant Nick Licari as my favorite all time, probably not, but you never know.

My buddy I go to games with called Soleway the next Matt Doman.

I too like the grinders. The 4th liners and PKers are usually my favorite guys. Keegan Meuer does an impressive amount of smack talk and instigation out there, so the team needs a Soleway and Little to back him up. I don't even know if they play together, been so busy I'm slowly re-learning the team and new players.

Great post! Brings back good memories from the old college days. But for me in my friends it was NHL 94, 95, and 96 on Sega Genesis. Many a battle before, during and after classes. Bob Probert (RIP) was slow, but you get him near anyone, and they went down. Then you had guys like Dino Ciccarelli, who were fast but knocked people down left and right. If only it was that easy.

You are right about Meuer. He is always busting his hump on the ice, which I also like. Plus he is a great penalty killer.

I know I didn't. I wish UW had more 20 yr old freshman Canadians on the team who came from the BCHL. I don't think the BCHL produces many D1 grinders, there's plenty of those in the USHL.

The only negative thing I have seen on him is that Gurt's wife thought he was slow....but that was no apparent this last weekend.

Speaking of Ryan Little, I don't know if it was mentioned here before but things apparently haven't worked out for him with the ECHL Florida Everblades as I see he was released about two weeks ago. Don't know where he's at right now?

I played a TON of those games for Sega too. Ahhh...the memories.

I still have those games and my Sega, maybe I should play that too.

Saw him after the game on friday w/ his family. Probably living the dream in Fondy.

Barnes named Big Ten first star of the week, Faust named third star. Barnes tweaked his ankle Saturday per Shuey (radio) but was able to fight through it. Should be fine with another bye week. I think Joel should be ready for Miami as well.
