Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I suppose the AD's counterpoint, WDC, would be that canned music and stupid video board segments help keep the crowd in a silenced stupor. Much fewer security risks when you can reduce the crowd to a silenced stupor.

Their perspective is almost like that great Futurama meme:

shut-up-and-take-my-money2.jpg

Except they want us to shut up and give them our money.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I still have no earthly idea why the AD has so greatly reduced the role of Leckrone and the pep band in recent years, for instance.

I believe it to be the work of the robot devil.

Now some may call me old fashioned, but I believe the only two times the band should not be playing is during part of the intro/wisconsin hockey video and two hours after the game has finished.

I was in Green Bay this past weekend for a youth tourney and we decided to take the boys to an arena football game on Saturday night rather than leave them to their own devices in a hotel.

It was very much as you describe - wall to wall sensory overload from canned music at every pause, BS on the video board and stupid games & challenges involving fans.

I understand that minor sports need to be in the entertainment business. They're not selling football, they're trying to sell an overall experience, but sometimes you just want to be able to talk with the person next to you.

I commented that it (arena football) wasn't roller derby, but it was a relative for sure.

EDIT: Hadn't been in the Resch since the regional in 2006 and a lot of great memories came back. :)

In regards to possible afternoon men's games....I wonder what that will do to the women's schedule. Maybe they'll get to play at night instead of the lovely 2pm time slot. Sunday afternoon games in Oct-Dec would be just ridiculous.

They'd probably just continue to work around the men's schedule. For example, if the men play Saturday-Sunday, the women would probably play Friday-Saturday.

Remember the women are not members of the big ten there part of the wcha so they(the wcha) will still control scheduling

They still will avoid playing at the same time as the men when both teams are at home in the same weekend. The WCHA doesn't decide the exact schedule (i.e. the host school sets the time and day within the weekend). Both men's and women's basketball factor into the women's hockey schedule, too, so I assume it's at the school's discretion.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

The non-conference road games are two weekends in a row? bleh. I was considering going to both, but that's a little troubling.

Just head that the dates for the Boston trip (via Brian Posick's radio show) is actually Oct. 18-19.

CONFIRMED DATES:
Northern Michigan (home) Oct. 11-12
AT Boston College/Boston University Oct. 18-19
Lake Superior State (home) Nov. 1-2
AT Miami Nov. 15-16
Colorado College (home) Dec. 13-14
Alabama-Huntsville (home) Dec. 27-28

UNCONFIRMED DATES:
AT Minnesota Nov. 29-30
Alaska Anchorage (home) Jan. 3-4
Minnesota (home) Feb. 7-8

Anyone heard anything on the assistant coach search? I would have expected something right after the deadline, but then Andy Baggot had said it might take into summer.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Here is some information for the season ticket holders:

The renewal packet will be coming out later this month (I was given a date of May 24).

20 home games; split 10 for "faceoff" and 10 for "slapshot" packages.

Expecting most series to be Friday/Saturday, but that has not been confirmed. Exceptions would likely be Saturday/Sunday series. No anticipated Thursday or Monday games.

Due to scheduling around the BTN's basketball and hockey programming, final schedule may not be available until August.

When the packet comes out, it will have the names of all opponents, and likely some of the NC schedule, but it may not have the finalized schedule for B1G games.

So far, Joe Pavelski 2, Canucks 0.

Former Badgers are faring well in the playoffs so far.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

And Bourque had a nice elbow to the head! McD with a nice pass to a guy in the crowd in OT last game.

When it comes to rooting for UW alumni, I wasn't exactly happy with Bourque's performance. That Montreal - Ottawa game was exciting in the beginning, with plenty of action and a very energized, responsive crowd. Everybody got on their feet after a big save or hit. It was quite a spectacle to watch as a neutral viewer. Then, of course, Ottawa pulled away with the lead and Montreal flat-out embarrassed themselves with everything that transpired, and Bourque was a big part of that.

I saw on the recruiting grid that Zullinick is listed as a redshirt Fr next year. Was I asleep at the wheel or was that not previously disclosed?

Schedule!

Initial reaction... could be worse, I guess? The one Thursday game is a big series, but that may not be all bad; if we have a big rival series and it's the only night of the year you have to get to the KC Thursday instead of Friday, you do it, right?

The email specified Friday and Saturday nights, so does that mean we're not getting weird afternoon games as had been anticipated/discussed?

ETA:
The University of Wisconsin is pleased to announce the Wisconsin men's hockey schedule for the inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference. We are happy to share that we will continue to play nearly all of our home series on Friday and Saturday nights at the Kohl Center.

It also seems like most of the home games are oddly packed into December and January. Not quite sure if that's a problem, or just odd. Probably not great, since it's problematic for some students, and students are (or should be, despite KC/AD/whatever obstacles) a huge part of the atmosphere.

My initial reaction to this schedule is that I'm not excited about this schedule. The Big 10 is going to take some getting use to (for me), at least PSU is out of the way early and the other 4 matchups should be good ones.

Might have to road trip to both Boston and Oxford, OH.
