Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

It also seems like most of the home games are oddly packed into December and January. Not quite sure if that's a problem, or just odd. Probably not great, since it's problematic for some students, and students are (or should be, despite KC/AD/whatever obstacles) a huge part of the atmosphere.

That will be an issue with the UAH, UAA, and Michigan series. Unfortunately, the dorms forbid anyone from coming back before the last weekend of winter break without paying extra, so that's a large chunk right there, and most students don't bother anyway (we'll see how much the Michigan series can be hyped up as an event worth coming back for). I hope a lot of locals decide to show up for Alabama-Huntsville, because it's in that Christmas to New Year zone, and students will be in short supply. Those are the only 3 outside of the academic calendar.

That would be my only complaint about this. I'm excited.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Schedule....Positive: I like the mix of the teams a lot. Negative: There's too many bye weeks built into it to get any momentum going early in the season. They play 2 weeks, get a week off, play a week, get a week off, play a week, get off a week, then play 3 weeks, then Xmas break. 12 home games in a row (WOW), then 6 of the last 8 on the road? They play UM, then play UM again 2 weeks later, same with MSU later on. All they would have had to do is flip UW's home games with UM and MSU and that would have been avoided. I don't think you could have crafted a more poorly laid out schedule if you had tried. Plus they have the issue of the students WiscDC mentioned. UW should have scheduled to avoid that.

My initial reaction to this schedule is that I'm not excited about this schedule. The Big 10 is going to take some getting use to (for me), at least PSU is out of the way early and the other 4 matchups should be good ones.

Might have to road trip to both Boston and Oxford, OH.

I just decided to be really pumped up for the PSU series. They celebrated a humongous upset on Bob Johnson Rink as the Badgers saw their season go into serious jeopardy. It's revenge time.

That's a good point. Something else I didn't think of until now - not only would I, as a student, prefer more home games during school and away games during winter break, but I'm sure it would be better for the players as well. Road trips are easier when there's no school. Also, there's that psychological factor of a more energetic crowd.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Looking for someone to split my Friday tickets. Up to half the season will be available.

I'll even give up either the Minny series or the Michigan series. Most likely, I will keep the Michigan tix and give up Minny.

After that, we'll work it out.

I usually have to pay by the end of May or June and will need the money at that time.

My tickets are row A of section 204 and there are 4 seats. Love these seats as being in the front row is great for leg room and sight lines.

I wonder if UW requested to be on the road in late Feb/March so that the Kohl Center could be used for other events.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

And Bourque had a nice elbow to the head! McD with a nice pass to a guy in the crowd in OT last game.

Badgers alumni playing "top this." Craig Smith with a hat trick today for Team USA in 4-1 win over Finland at world championship. Last night Kyle Turris with OT winner for Ottawa and Joe Pavelski with two goals for San Jose. Night before Stepan had late game-winning goal for Rangers.

You bet. I personally am sick of being treated second rate to high school sports. I have paid for both nights of hockey for over ten years and seriously debating giving up one. 3 of 10 home series will be sparsely attended by students who make it fun to attend. Why be frustrated when I can just watch on the btn and save myself a boat load off money.

Home non conference schedule isn't very exciting either.

Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves will keep Matt Walsh as a full-time assistant coach. Per Andy Baggot.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

He did a fine job coaching D after entering a tough situation. In my eyes the biggest question is if he is able to recruit, as he had not coached on the collegiate level before.

I'm with you.... especially the home non-conference schedule. Next year will be better with NoDak and one of the Boston teams coming here. And I'm thinking too about a road trip to Oxford, OH. It's a beautiful campus and their rink looks pretty cool.

Eaves specifically mentioned last year he didn't like the byes in the early season schedule last year, so hopefully he can adjust the way he runs the lads to get a better result than the huge hole they dug last year, though missing players was also a factor. I like the there's no SCSU, BSU, Kato and UNO; NM, BC, BU and Miami are more compelling teams. I do miss DU and UND, but they'll be on next year. I think it's a priority to get a yearly series with UMD lined up. I still want revenge from the Hull days.

Very pleased to see Walsh stay on.

Gotta love what all the ex Badgers are doing in the playoffs. I bet former UW players have scored more points than any other college.

Now if the Gophers could only get UW off their schedule, your school would have no exposure in Minnesota and everyone would be happy. Would so much rather be playing UND.

Now neither of our assistants had any experience coaching either junior or college hockey prior to UW. HIGHLY disappointed in this. Was hoping for an experienced #1 assistant and we're settling for another youth hockey coach. Why am I not surprised.

He's a really good youth coach though. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I never knew that you needed to be a Jr coach to be able to coach college. Matt maybe hasnt't done alot of coaching but what he has done with the Badger D is on even par with Osiecki. Ask any of the D on the Badgers and they will tell you that they are learning a lot from Coach Matt and gave Coach Eaves and Shuchuk their approval on him. The big question I do have is in recruiting but I think with his USA hockey contections he should be fine their...time will tell. Coach Shuchuk has done an incredible job while he has been here and once again ask any player that has been here since he came and they will tell you that they love him as a coach. He played 15 years pro and has past on his knowledge to his players. I believe his recruits that have commited here are all studs, Malone, Dvorak, and we'll see Soleway this fall. I think the program is in good hands and can't wait until Oct 11!!!

I am curious to know who the other candidates were, if there were any others.
