Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

The Wisconsin Channel.

How do I watch it tonight? I am in Madison and I have AT&T Uverse. As far as I can tell, Uverse does not give me the digital subchannels. Channel 21 is PBS, but that's it. My TV is a Sharp Aquos from 2009 and it has a digital ATSC tuner, so says the internet. My rudimentary understanding is that this should allow me to see the various digital OTA channels and subchannels without an antenna...or am I not thinking about this properly? I changed the TV input from Uverse to 'TV' in the TV's menu but I still don't see any channels. Thoughts?

Sadly, paying $50+ for the family to go to the game tonight is not an option. I consider myself pretty tech savvy but have never attempted to watch OTA TV since the digital conversions a few years ago.

OK. Enough people have been exercising their empathy muscles and feeling your pain for some time, so I think it's time to be frank.

Do you Badger fans seriously think you want to get out of this series and move on to face some good teams? What if, in your fragile state, you have to play North Dakota? Have you even thought about that?

Look. Just lose a close one tonight, maybe overtime, then lose another close one tomorrow, blame them both on the refs, and end the season with some dignity intact. Clean off the clubs, put on them black bicycle-riding tighty long johns you wear, have a latte on State Street, and look forward to playing hockey with a bunch of football schools next year.

Leave the hockey to us.

burdy I always like your style. It's surely the thinner that's made you barely tolerable, but barely tolerable is pretty high praise from me to a wagon jockey.

It's a nice try, but frankly if sue has to win one game and could choose us or the Empire to play, there's no way you're picking us right now. You could probably grind one out against the gofer glamour girls, get 'em in a clinch and they tend to drop their purses lately. But trying to grind it out against us? That's gonna be a fist fight the whole way, and anyone could get in a good punch. Better for you we don't have another 'last time around' 'cause Bucky's been in the gym working on the heavy bag since last time we met. :p

Shot in the dark, but what happens if you enter 21.2?
Sorry. Forgot to include that in my original post. When I enter 21.2 (with 'TV' as the input), the TV shows 21.1 and no channel comes through. I've always watched PBS via Uverse in the past.

Sorry. I have Charter, so I don't know. My TV "natively" picks up 21.2, so I thought it was worth a shot. It's on Charter Ch. 972 for me. I'm going to the game, but have set up the DVR to record it in case I need to critique the refs after the fact.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I'm applying the following hypothetical situation to my years of sales & marketing. (Names are not used to protect my ***.)

Let's say the economy has been sucking and many, many people don't have the disposable income they've had in the past. A popular activity that has been very entertaining in the past just isn't anymore. The product isn't as good and people aren't willing to pay for an inferior product. <-(Not a rip on the team).

SOLUTION: You promote that product to the best of your ability. You discount the product and get more people to PURCHASE the product (and hopefully like what they see/get). Let's say you discount a $25 product $10. That $15 product will almost double purchases. In KC terms I would rather have 15,000 people at $15.00 ($225,000), than 8,000 at $25.00 ($200,000). Yes, the difference is "only" about 25,000 people, but remember to include pop, snacks, ice cream, programs, Bucky's Locker Room, etc, etc.

Seriously, I talk to people every day who don't know the hockey team has improved. They are the bandwaggoners who show up win they're only winning. I've heard some radio promos on AM radio, but what about FM, TV, e-billboards, or even a ****ing Cesna pulling a banner?

It's really sad seeing the situation at the KC. And then you have the usher dorks that make the experience SO much more fun.

Now I'm done. Gotta shower & go to hockey game with MCR Jr.who is visiting his Pop.

Pretty sure you need an antenna.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Glad you responded to this Solo. Always good to hear someone's opinion. (Even if it's WRONG! :D:D)

Just kidding. I think your feelings are certainly shared by a large group of people, in some ways myself included, but only in the larger sense that the overall success of the program isn't as high as it should be, not as it relates to losing one game.

As far as 'equating' us with OSU or even MSU, ( btw, MSU owns a 45-42-3 all time record against us, has made The NCAA's 24 of the last thirty one years, 9 frozen fours, 3 NCAA titles, 7 CCHA regular season and 11 CCHA tournament titles... I'd say their pedestal is in decent shape.) I'm not 'equating' us with anyone, merely pointing out PSU isn't the worst team in the country. They actually led the nation with 36 shots/game. We put 44 on them and lost. It's not football or even bouncy ball, it's hockey and it happens with some regularity. MN outshot BSU 51-18 last night and barely escaped with their lives in a 2-1 win.
Just looking back at a couple of our NC teams... in '83 we got swept at home, (a SWEEP mind you!) by an RPI team that could only manage a losing record in the ECAC. THE ECAC for God sakes! Yet that team went on to NC glory. The program didn't implode over two losses, though no doubt there was much wringing of hands.
Heck, even in 1990, a team that won everything-- WCHA, WCHA playoffs, and NCAA's-- they managed to lose to St. Cloud St. when it was the Huskies first year in the WCHA. Imagine the uproar at that! Of course they rebounded by promptly losing to a not very good NMU team the next week, before finally waking up again and burying NMU 10-1 on their way to a big finish. There are tons of other examples.

While I agree that WI hockey needs to be better, should be better, the idea that we couldn't lose single games to low teams... Well frankly, we always will. So does everyone once in awhile. The Badgers don't have a long tradition of great dominating regular seasons. Our 6 NC teams essentially finished 3rd in conference 4 times. In 40 plus years we've won the Mac Cup 3 times. If we have a tradition along those lines it's having good teams that have built themselves throughout seasons so that when the time comes- We Win Big Games. That is it. That is the magic of Wisconsin Hockey. And I, along with lots of Badger Hockey fans are very proud of it. We lost one game to PSU? Who cares? I'll take winning the next three.

I agree with a lot of what you say here but there's worlds of difference between a great UW team losing to an inferior or perceived inferior opponent in the regular season (shrug, it happens now and then, the team is still great) and a boring painfully average UW team losing to PSU, that loss is in UW's current situation comes across to me as the denouement really. The mark of a new low to a program that appears to have been sinking lately. I don't know, to me losing to a club hockey team, in a season where you start 1-7-2 and were supposed to be (heralded by some on here) great, and with a history of missing the ncaa's 4 of 6 years prior it just...sucks

In 1990 UW was fantastic and losing to NMU was in no way embarrassing. That was an NMU team with Dallas Drake, Scott Beattie, Jim Hiller and Bill Pye (they went on to win the title in 91 over a Tony Amonte, Shawn Mceachern, Joe Sacco led BU) so they were very good on their way to being great.

losing to St. Cloud as you mention, yeah that sucked.

anyway I hope UW wins tonight, win tonight and get 1 win in St. Paul and who knows?

re: MSU - I didn't realize they had as much league hardware as they do, still for reasons mostly due to NCAA rings I've always considered them as the 2nd tier of teams - UW, MN, BC, BU, Nodak, DU, Mich in tier 1 then the next tier w/MSU, UNH, Maine etc

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Yeah, an antenna is absolutely necessary for all the digital subchannels. And then there should be an input in your menu for "antenna".
Long story short, I still can't get the PBS subchannels.

I went and got a new antenna since mine was likely too old (analog?). Now I can get all of the NBC (15), CBS (3), ABC (27), and FOX (47) subchannels but oddly no PBS. Online it is then tonight. Thanks for the suggestions all.

Now that's just strange. I remember working trying to set up those channels for a friend years ago. He had a pretty weak signal, and about the ONLY thing he could pull in was the PBS channels. Really sorry it didn't help you.

Goin' to St. Paul!

wow great game, great win for UW.

hopefully Simonelli and McCabe are able to play next week. Welsh noted Simonelli went off injured in the last minute and McC never returned after his injury

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

AWESOME win! Hopefully UNO and Denver can take care of business tomorrow.
