Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Tough to see you guys go down today. The Badgers had a great run in the second half. Hope you can hold on to some of your best guys.

Hoping against hope that Zengerle stays.

Good luck today. Seriously.

Looking at umass roster is interesting, pretty young and skilled. They have kids from everywhere. We need to find some d men badly for next year. If McCabe were to leave we will have big problems. Bill butters might have screwed us worse than anyone thought.

That was an amazing run UW made. I thought they would go deep, seeing how strong they have been in all areas. But they drew a red-hot team.

I hope you kick arse in the B1G. Do not let the empire gain an inch of that turf.

And if you get lonely playing with footballers next year and wanna have a good time, come on over to Ralph's Club, and Susie will show you what you're missing.

**** you and your reasonable perspective! :)

I suspect that Lowell was about the worst possible draw for this UW team, as our style of play wasn't going to throw them off their game.

I'm disappointed in how the season ended, but I'm impressed with how much fight this team showed down the stretch run.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I missed the 3rd period, but to that point I thought the game was fairly even. We seemed to have a lot of zone time but just had trouble getting to those rebound opportunities. That goaltender was ginormous...he made me think of King Kong swatting away airplanes. But in the midst of all that time in the zone, we'd lose the puck every now and then and it would lead to an odd-man rush. I've never seen that many rushes in a game against us before. It seemed like if there was a puck battle just inside our offensive blue line, Lowell would send a flier up the ice right away and we never figured out what to do. Add in a softie by Rumpel to start things off and that adds up to a recipe for disaster.

I am impressed by the run that this team made after such a horrific start. On the other hand, such a run shouldn't have been necessary to make the tournament. I'm hopeful for next year, but wary of a potential downfall that has followed our recent tourney berths. At least I don't have to spend the $ to go to Pittsburgh this year. :(

I just posted in the UML-Wisconsin thread...so if you read that, skip this part:

I had to watch the replay, so I just finished the game my thoughts:

Congratulations Umass Lowell. You played excellent tonight, and coming into the game, I had my concerns (although I thought we would win).

First 5-10 minutes of play I thought we dominated. Then you scored, and we seemed to struggle. We had the puck bouncing over our stick and it would stick to yours like glue. I don't think that was bad luck on our part....we didn't seem to have the same effort you guys did after the first 10 minutes.

HelleBuyck was everything he was advertised as. I do not think that we put as much pressure on him as we could have however....too many pipes/missed nets (although that may have been because they were trying to snipe the corners). I thought Rumpel played well. He had a couple awesome saves, but his defense left him hang out to dry on too many odd rushes.

As far as the officiating: It was typical. There were calls missed, and there were some that were against UML that I didn't even see.

I really wish that our season continued...but since you beat us (and my boss is a UNH fan).....Go Riverhawks!

Good luck the rest of the way!

I do think we were a great team down the stretch. This afternoon we really had some bad puck luck...but then it hurt our effort battleing for the puck. Bottom line is that we were one of the best teams in the country at the end of the year and lost a game in a single elimination tournament.

I am going to say this now....and you can quote me on this (whether or not Zengerle, McCabe, and Kerdiles stay, although I hope they do): Wisconsin will be 2014 NCAA hockey champions.

Interestingly enough UMass Lowell just got a commitment from defenseman Dylan Zink from the Madison area who play in the NAHL. I think he played at Monona Grove and put up like a million points per season in high school. After watching the game I was thinking how perfect he will likely be for their system and the way they played against the Badgers. There are some talented defensemen in the UW pipeline already, but you can never have too many...

You too. What is George doing with your team. 1-4 last 5 in NCAA's.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I watched the first two periods and about half of the third and I don't think that UW played particularly bad, they didn't capitalize on their chances (particularly early) and made too many mistakes that Lowell was able to capitalize on.

I suspect that UW played well enough to beat at least 10 of the other tournament teams, they unfortunately caught on of the 4 that they couldn't with their A- game when Lowell brought their A game across the board.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I couldn't watch the game since I had an informal "Shiva" at my house following my Dad's passing on Thursday. (I'm not looking for sympathy, I'm just answering the question before it's asked why a man of my hockey experience didn't watch the Badgers!:D) I did have the DVR grinding away; I'll watch it later.

Great run by the Badgers. I was one of many who started to lose confidence in the team. The Badgers proved otherwise. Good luck seniors. See you in autumn to begin the run for the 2014 title.

Congratulations to Wisconsin on a nice season. Good luck in the Big 10 next season. Hopefully it's not another 25 years before these teams meet again.
It would be nice to see the Badgers in Lowell in the near future.

I wouldn't say we had our A- game in all areas. Thought the offense looked good and created chances, but the neutral zone and transition game were very porous and bad by our standards.

Rumpel didn't have a great game either. Sure, he got hung out a few times, but sometimes the goalie needs to stand on his head or bail out his mates and Rumpel didn't yesterday.

Not trying to be critical of the team, but that wasn't our A- game yesterday.

To me, the difference wasn't so much in the Badgers play compared to the rest of the playoffs was the play of Lowell compared to the WCHA teams.

Lowell's got it working no question. I watched much of the HE Tourney last weekend and they were a team I didn't want to face in the first game. Unfortunate draw for us.
