Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I think that between the Fieldhouse and the Coliseum, ample facilities exist for HS hockey, bball, etc. I would think there has to be a way to move the schedules around so that everyone can be happy. Also, I believe the Athletic Dept is self-funded. This situations seems to come to a head because of the timing...Badger hockey gets kicked out at a critical time of the year (last regular season series, 1st round of playoffs) for events that could seemingly happen in another campus venue with ease, IMO. And to be fair, those Milwaukee teams always get to use their venue for games. I don't see the Bucks or Marquette getting sent to the old Mecca for a random game.

Honestly, part of the problem is that the WCHA couldn't be bothered to schedule around the other events. No reason that UW couldn't be on the road for the final two weeks of the regular season. I wouldn't like it but it would be far preferable to uw being banished to somewhere else.

That's my take too. Why couldn't one series be flipped? The WCHA knew that the KC wasn't available that weekend.

Could it be gotcha over the BTHC? Maybe...

**** the WCHA, the ****ing pukes. ****ing mother ****ing ****-wad ****-heads. **** THEM!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

And now I've completely lost my point except that my in-laws are awesome and we're at the beach and I'm drinking too much and there's a bar that PROMISED ME THE ****ING GAME TOMORROW AND IF THEY DON'T DELIVER THERE WILL BE A BADGER FAN IN JAIL IN FORT MYERS.

Let me know if you need bail money. I'm across the river in Cape Coral. Plus I can get you off the charges, Mrs. McBadgerton has jury duty on Friday. No joke. ;)

The Moooos are dead meat.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

You guys gonna watch w/ us @ big game or what?

I would love to, but sadly in Florida, all your relatives visit you in the same three week period in the spring. Which is too bad because the fishing and the weather are spectacular in the fall. Oh well... But still, I know people if your in jail. People who will probably do nothing to help you, but I know them!

Bucky scores first and last in every period tomorrow.

Bring your relatives! If they don't watch hockey disown them!

I might be there Saturday night to watch the Badgers take down the rodents or the wagon jockeys. My brother has a house on the beach and will be down Saturday afternoon.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

What really bugs me is how the WIAA can bully the University to use it when THEY want. The hockey schedule comes out in plenty of time for the WIAA to be flexible. If there is a home hockey series, move the WIAA tournament to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. What's the difference if they have one more day off school?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

My guess is that the BTHC will be more accommodating to our WIAA scheduling needs so that this point will become mute.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Well, quite honestly, the Fieldhouse and Coliseum are both, basically, dumps. I can see why the WIAA doesn't see them as a viable alternative. UW doesn't see them as the preferred venues, either, for hoops or hockey.

And while the athletic department may be self-funded, it is a part of a public institution. As such many people around the state see themselves as "owning" a stake in it - even if they aren't students/parents/alumni/staff. That may be calling themselves fans, or thinking that it's appropriate for other organizations to use its facilities. And, the WIAA events do provide an 'alternative' revenue stream to the athletic department. Or would you rather the WIAA take all of its money elsewhere and ticket prices go up some more?

You are correct that the Bucks don't move games. But there are certainly times that there are dates not available to them. By accomodating boys hoops, that is one weekend the KC isn't available to the Badgers.

As I said, I get wanting and agree with Badger being hockey home for the first round of the playoffs (a moot point next year, I believe, with all six B1G teams playing at XCel), but I think it's being too parochial to think that only UW sports belong in the Kohl Center. You don't build a fan base by excluding people.
Fair points. To me, an arena is an arena for playing HS basketball. Sure, the KC is nicer but it's not exactly the Taj Mahal. It is, in general, an energy-less concrete box. I don't see the we-must-have-it-there-and-nowhere-else attractiveness of it, but I'm sure some do. I don't really agree with the public ownership stake as a justification for use of the KC, but I do think it behooves the university and the WIAA to work together on scheduling, not as has been pointed out, the recent demands of the WIAA on having the tourneys when they want, no questions asked. It is good to have other events in there and in theory, keep ticket prices lower (although they out of my price range already most of the time).

This all may well be a fully moot issue with the B1G, but still having boys and girls HS bball at the KC in the same year (i.e., back to back weekends) would be too much for the Badgers to give up, IMO.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Well, it looks like I do get a season ticket holder survey, though I'm sure it will differ from the non-student one. I still intend on sending a separate email (or emails). Maybe a physical letter? Harder to ignore :D

Also, I'd expect the venue issues to be less frequent with the Big Ten schedule, as there will be fewer league games, and they've already publicly said they would try and make everything work for each University for things like final exams.

Sorry guys, I tend to not post much, but have daily visited this site since its inception. I write this post looking for some help from a fellow Badger. I have a jersey with hockey only commemorative pins from every tournament the Badgers have played in since 1985 (where the tourney produced pins). I regularly travel to these events but this year will have to miss the Final Five. I am hoping a friendly Badger might hook up an alum (BS 89, JD 94) with a pin from this year's Final Five for which I would of course reimburse. If it matters, I held season tickets from '85-2001 before moving from Madison, and fondly remember spending nights outside the Field House, getting breakfast from Mickie's or doughnuts from the place near Regent and Brooks waiting to buy my season tix. I would appreciate any help or info.

Lets get at least two this weekend boys!

I checked the WCHA website, and oddly, no pins for sale there. Hopefully some friendly Badger that is actually at the FF5 sees this is a gives a fellow alum a hand. You could also post your request here It's mostly filled with filthy gofers, but there are a few normal people who drop in and are at the F5 that may be willing to hook you up.

I was thinking about the very first F5 I ever was able to attend. It was at the St. Paul Civic center and was also the first time for the single elimination tournament we know today. (before that games were double elimination in the WCHA tournament). The Goofs were top ranked with 31 wins going to the final after destroying UMD 6-0. The Badgers were in the top ten as well, but barely survived a 2-1 dogfight with UND and were heavy underdogs against the Wooger's mighty rodents. The arena was packed and evenly split between seas of maroon and red. Down the whole game Bucky netted 2 early in the third to take a 3-2 lead and then went into the loudest and longest last 10 minutes of any game I've ever been at. The Goofs had been all but handed the Broadmoor going in but the Badgers again did what seemed impossible at the time and toppled the goofs in a huge game. It's what we do.

I'd sure feel better with Cap America in the line up as he's played great down the stretch, but in a game like this, the intangibles should be all on our side. Boys have been in the same situation, playing big games the last several weeks and come through over and over. They're going to do it again!

By virtue of now going to 20 conference games verses 28 in the WCHA, the Badgers will gain much greater control and flexibility in their schedule. The biggest thing that excites me about the move to the BTHC is the ability to control the schedule and add some variety that just wasn't there with a bloated conference like what the WCHA had morphed into once Bemidji and UNO were added.

My friend 60min (who formerly posted her regularly when she had the time) is going to the Final Five and I just texted her to ask if she'd pick up a pin for you, and she gladly would. You can contact me, I think clicking on my username allows you to email me, and I'll make sure this happens for you.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Anyone know if today's game has an online or smart phone viewing option? I am at work and would like to watch the game.

Worst case I can always listen only to it I heart radio.

Watching the game at work? Must be nice. :) I'm DVRing it and will start to watch @ 5:00 when I get home.

Scheduling.....UW will have more flexibility, but I wouldn't count on the B1G on being very helpful. All the WCHA had to worry about was 1 sport, hockey. One would think they would have been able to devote a lot of time to making schedules that worked for all the schools in the league, NOT. In the B1G, hockey is an afterthought (as it has evolved into at UW as well), I wouldn't assume much thoughtful fan consideration when it comes to the schedule.

Let's go RED!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I just finished the student ticket survey. Many of the questions involved attendance - how many games do you attend, what factors contribute to you attending or staying at home, stuff like that. They asked what ratio of sound system music to band music I want, and whether I was satisfied with several things, like team performance, on-ice activities, the band, and cheerleaders/Bucky. They asked what class I was in, how many years I've been a ticket holder, and whether I was likely to buy them again. Then they asked for additional comments.

In that "additional comments" box, I wrote about what we've talked about here in the past couple of days, and I even quoted several of your comments that I had saved earlier, and added some of my own. With 1 inch margins and 12 pt Times New Roman font, it was 5 pages long. :D

And hey, Barnes scored!
