Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

The AD emailed a season ticket survey today.

I tore em a new one, whatever good that will do.

I've been collecting some of the better posts in these threads that I'll use to help compose a, um, constructively critical email.

Hey WiscDC, if you are just looking for only the best posts, I believe you can just click on my name and choose the view my posts option. That should save you a lot of time. No need to thank me, just glad I could help!

On another front, it sounds like Captain America, Jake McCabe did not practice today. (Neither did Derek Lee.) I can only assume we won't see him in the line up Thursday. (not confirmed as far as I know) That's a tough one to swallow, but guys have had to step up all year. Thursday will just be business as usual for the way this season has gone. I'd say we will miss him on the pp too... but... well, you guys know what I mean there!

I certainly enjoy your posts. :) One of my saved links is one of yours!

One of my saved links is one of yours!

Thanks, but one? One? ONE? ONLY ONE???!!
Oh... of course, you are just getting started. Phew! Makes sense now. You could just copy paste them all without reading them. Trust me, every single last one is gold.

Also, I swear Chuck's post wasn't there when I posted. Now Sunday I was drinking and listening to two hockey games when this happened to me, but sadly, today I am doing neither. Wonky board!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I too received the survey and tore them a new one.

I had previously received the women's hockey survey and when they asked if you had any other comments for the athletic department I couldn't help myself and tore them a new one there too (after praising the women's program).

I also don't know ifit will help but it is the only avenue for ticket holders to vent their frustration.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

My major theme is going to involve their indifference, attendance, coverage, and the general product. The whole "taking fans for granted" thing. You know, that stuff.

First my post on Sunday, now Chuck's? You're a regular Bobby Goepfert.

Cite your sources! *clap, clap...clap, clap, clap*

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

If any of you want to add my 2 cents to your survey...I (and my family) gave up our season tickets of almost 30 years 2 years ago. The overly PC atmosphere, general lack of common sense (and common courtesy) of event staff, forcing of BS exhibition games down our throats, messed up scheduling in general (which was MUCH worse this year, for Saturday season ticket holders?), playing 2nd fiddle to high school sports (especially since they're far and away the most successful of the "big 3" historically)...and not directly the UW's fault, but I'm sure they didn't do much to deter: the NCAA treating hockey "violations" so much different than those of football, and the general degradation of the attitude of officials (I know it's been a few years, but it doesn't get much more blatant than Don "I'm just making this **** up as I go" Adam...who of course still has a job).

I go to a lot of Gamblers and Packers games each year, and it's day/night difference the way fans are treated in Madison versus Green Bay.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

No reason we can't, as I pointed out elsewhere, we're the only team in the FF5 to win our last games against the teams we'll have to face to get to the final. And if the goofs are there, well, we won that one too. :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I would like to hear from more folks who got a survey and what your response was. Just curious.

I was very critical of the scheduling and, of course, high school sports. I also have an annual donor form waiting for me, and I intend to give them the amount required to keep my tickets, plus designate $1 towards buying the KC back from the WIAA.

I also make an effort when any survey asks about it to praise the students and suggest that they be allowed more, rather than less, flexibility with regard to signs and cheers and note that I'm not offended in the least and a rowdy student section is, IMO, a GOOD part of a hockey game's atmosphere. I may be an "old person" now, but I'm still on their side :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

After that attempted "clearing pass" Saturday, I don't know if Eaves is the type of coach who would let that one go unpunished. I've been wanting to watch the Saturday night post game interview, hoping to see if someone would bring that up.

I know it's the sort of thing that would be frowned upon by a coach, and probably with good reason, but we were up by enough that I thought it was really funny.

I put in a bit about this too. I mentioned that it was ridiculous that the SIEVE sign was ordered removed when it was below sight lines.

Told them that if they want more butts in the seats, they have to allow for some atmosphere to happen.

They asked a lot about satisfaction with the video board and the canned music and I responded with meh. Their questions show how far off they are in what they think is wrong. They think (imo) that the crowd want/needs to be entertained more with that kind of BS.

I disagree and said so. Put a winning team on the ice with a style of play that's fun to watch. Told them that the current style was dreadfully boring.

Let the students have more fun, not less. They actually asked if the the student section was detrimental to my enjoyment on game day. They DID NOT ask if the student section enhanced my enjoyment. Think about that for a moment.

Made sure that they understood that my reasons for not renewing next year were not at all based on ticket prices, concession quality & pricing, parking, the video board productions, the student section or any of the other BS reasons that they think it might be.

Put a winning team/style on the ice and make the atmosphere something that's worth leaving the house for. Otherwise **** off. I've got lots of other things to do with my time and money.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

My survey was less then a ringing endorsement. My concerns were...scheduling (I sign up for Saturday tickets because they work for me logistically and not because I am hoping to get a Friday, Monday, and no Minnesota home game), atmosphere (8,000 fans in a morgue-like atmosphere is not Badger hockey and that is becoming more the norm then the exception), quality of play (sorry 5 out of 7 years not being able to crack the top 14-15 in the nation to get a tourney bid is not acceptable), and last some pricing issues (parking shouldn't be $15 in the nearby lots, exhibition games should not be full $24 price, games moved to a "nostalgic" (aka crappy) venue should not be as expensive as they were for St Cloud, and if you are going to sell out a Minnesota home game to a outdoor novelty act....how about not letting the promoters of that circus gouge the seasonticket holders with the absurd pricing (and spare me they had $15 tickets....yeah if you wanted to sit in the 4th deck 300 yards away from the ice).

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

My comments on the student section were that they are generally a huge positive to the atmosphere. However, the langauge that seems to get interjected more frequently into some of the cheers is a negative. I'm an "old person", but I'm know to drop plenty of curse words and don't consider myself overly sensative to them and will get a chuckle out of the student section dropping SOME. But things seem to have evolved into curse words being a part of many cheers now.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Gurthflack.....I think you are a joke with your comments and I'm pretty sure the Badger teams don't need a homer fan like you in the stands. Stay home lay on your couch and talk to your stuff animals about how much knowledge you know about the Badgers! Do you understand this hockey team has the best record since December and I'm pretty sure most schools would want it. Just get some more tape for your ankles when you jump back on the bandwagon or better yet...become a Gopher fan you loser!

That is so far out of touch with Wisconsin athletics, it's beyond ridiculous. Even this year, with the weird hockey season and an extraordinary amount of good basketball games on weekends, I still consider the crease creatures to be the best student section on campus by a wide margin. When a few guys are standing as an unofficial student section, the surrounding "old people" always enjoy the chants/jokes. Even with basic things, I saw/heard some chuckles from the old people sitting in front of the students at the Coliseum. It's one of the most basic things even non-hockey fans know if they know anything about Wisconsin fans.

I wonder if it's a stock question for all sports or if they change all of them (I don't get any of these surveys).

Did you watch any games? I would take any fan in the stands...
