Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I'm not sure what can get us in if we lose to SCSU, but there are pretty clear paths into the field if we can get to the title game and lose to Minnesota or NoDak. The problem is that we're highly dependent on Notre Dame, BU and Providence not doing well in their conference semis. If they all wet the bed, we can lose the final and still get a 15 spot. Niagara winning the AHA is pretty crucial as well.

Union can help our cause by losing a lot as well.

Lee is expected to skate today, they'll know more then. McCabe is at the hospital getting tests, that doesn't sound good at all. No update on Simonelli because the media at the presser today didn't ask about him.

Not sounding good regarding Captain America... Didn't Frankie's injury look to be a hand? Gotta figure whatever it is, he's going to skate, but hopefully it's not much. He's been putting the puck on the net from out top the last few games and certainly want him to be able to continue to do that.

And we could sure use Derek Lee back on the pp. Although I think the second line there has really been doing a fairly good job.

If McCabe can't go there'll be even more pressure on Rammer, I'd guess. That guy is in great shape but how many more shifts can he skate? All of them?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I don't get the Keystone light cheer (well I get that it is the worst beer ever). Why is it the worst year ever? Maybe you can give me all the words of the cheer and enlighten me.

Haha, it's worst cheer ever. One of the various chants the cheerleaders will go through at basketball games is "Let's go, let's go, red and white..." on repeat. It sounds robotic. Most people don't know this because it's hard to hear unless you're within the first 10 rows or so (depending on crowd noise), and the basketball and hockey fans aren't all the same. Basically, it's just humorous tradition to say "Let's go, let's go, red and white! Worst cheer, worst cheer, worst cheer ever" to begin each period.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I fought the good fight for four years as a student. Unfortunately, I think it is a losing battle. I am going to go out on a limb and just blame the coasties.

Even nostalgia was better back in the day...

Coastie here (that's the DC in my username); don't blame the coasties. I can deal with it, because the random fan who just yells "Hey [goalie] you suck!!!!" still sounds weird, and those who find a humorous thing to chant are received well. The crease creatures are still the crease creatures, despite being weak in numbers this year. Again, this has a lot to do with the athletic department hyping up football tickets, which don't need extra hype, and mentioning basketball and hockey ticket sales off-hand (so neither sell out anymore).

Addition: What more students speak up about is the effort to get fewer fans to say "******* you" in the post-goal SIEVE chant. Not only does it add nothing and make nearby parents a little uneasy, but it ruins the chant! You need that pause of silence (besides the drums) before a burst of "SIEVE" in unison, which made the older version so good. Even within the student section, there's a noticeable drop in volume, so there are many students who stick to the clean words for a better chant.

Please do not take my knock on coasties as a personal insult. It is more of a thing where my friends in undergrad would (jokingly) blame anything and everything on the coasties (even though we had many coastie friends).

You have clearly established yourself as one hell of a badger hockey fan. I know you are part of the solution, not part of the problem :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Is there still time to petition for a 3rd place game to be added to the Final Five to give UW a chance for the extra TUC win incase they lose to St Cloud on friday? I'm not looking past the purple cows, I'm merely looking around them, nor do I think they will lose to St Cloud. 3 games in 3 days is a tough task though.

It is. I'm still trying to find a way to get in as an at large if we lose to SCSU, and have not yet succeeded. Title game or bust.

Also from what I gather, as an amateur PWR person, RPI is not what is holding UW back, but the vs TUC is. The loss to PSU is bad, and flip that and the RPI goes up to 0.5323, but that doesn't change anything. They needed to beat CC and Mankato at home earlier in the season. If they could have won one game in each of those series, not only would have they have won the McNaughton (along w/ SCSU and um), but UW would currently be 10th in the PWR. Getting swept at home is unacceptable, and that is what is holding them back, not the PSU result.

One of the 6 teams in Saint Paul this weekend will do it. (Ok, two of the teams only need to win two games...but still).

Anyone have a handy way to lookup how many 4/5 seeds have won the tournament in the past?

I'm sure I will be corrected, but IIRC, Duluth is the only team to have won three games in three days...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

No Dirty is right, at least about UND. Duluth was the first to do it in 2009. Might as well make it 4 out of 5 years w/ UW winning it this time around from a Thursday game.

GB Puck Fan was right. :p

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Your wittiness went right past me.

Don't sweat it, Mrs. McBadgerton has the same problem. In fact now that I think of it, so does my neighbor... and all my friends... and everyone I've ever known.
Hmm.... What is wrong with everybody besides me??

No doubt we'll need two wins, but I'm not over thinking it. A win against the moos likely gives a chance to play one game for a NCAA berth, which is good enough for me.

I think we can beat anyone, but obviously Stephon Williams is a good goalie. Good time for Rumps to really show what he can do, too. I'm not sure we're getting the respect we deserve going into this game, at least judging by what I read and the all WCHA voting.

Now we know why you're here :p

Just kidding Wisko. I've been enjoying your posts :)

Just call me Carnac.

that's what I get for A) not looking it up and B) not couching it as "I think Duluth has and not sure who else..."

the Duluth one stuck in my brain, maybe because they were the first... didn't mean to slight NoDak

Actually you get bonus points for slighting NoDak whether intentional or not.
