WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

I didn't think the Saturday game was being broadcast. Is it?

You are correct. I thought it was going to be on BT6 or FSW, but I was probably confusing it with last weekend's schedule. Hopefully they give a lot of scoring updates at the gal's game.

Last night....UW controlled the first half of the first period, then once Walters scored it was more even. It was a good gutty win. I like Woods in place of Lee on that line. Woody ended last year strongly on the score sheet, so he has some potential.

It was painfull watching 2 former WI kids on the #1 pp unit and Walters, who Eaves could not land though UW was in it to the end when the rodents wanted him to go that extra year in the USHL.

Navin coming directly to UW from HS was a trainwreck that everyone saw coming but maybe a couple people. How about redshirting the guy and give him a year to develop? I think he may have come in early due to a early departure....calling Chuck. Honestly the entire 4th line is probably in over their heads, no fault of their own.

the only reason Navin was brought in early was due to early departures.....2 years in the USHL would done Brad alot of good.....oh well sometimes things happen

Wasn't Navin brought in when Murray left late? Even still, they could have gotten equal quality minutes from other guys such as Hartzog, and let Navin play the year in the USHL. I also believe Navin missed about 1/3 of his senior year with a knee injury. Bad judgement on the part of the coaching staff.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Crazy that if somehow Tech can manage to dump SCSU tonight (unlikely, but it is Jan we're talking about) an even more unlikely scenario exists that could result in as much as a 5-way tie for first place in the WCHA, with Bucky being one of the five.

I thought the Badgers played quite well last night, all things considered. I got a good feeling early on when everyone in the building knew Zengerle was going to pass on that 2 on 1 break but instead he shocked the world and shot it. Even better when Mersch was again involved in a quick answer by LaBate to UNZero's tying goal in the third. For the first time in a long time, I inexplicably felt like Bucky would score in the last 10 minutes and retake the lead. It was a weird feeling.

I expect tonight that UNO will bring an even more physical game, (last night they were dishing it out pretty good at times) primarily because the best thing they can do to get momentum back during the game is put us on the pp. There's almost no hope of fixing it, everyone knows it, but I've never seen a team where going on the pp just sucks so much life out of us. Whenever we're pressuring I just keep praying the ref's swallow their whistles.

Giant game tonight, must win, setting up a chance for Bucky to try and wake up the echoes at the Ol' Coliseum.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Nothing that happens the rest of the season will beat the regretfullness of last Monday's game....don't sweat it. I'm gonna watch Friday's game, why I'm not so sure, hope springs eternal I guess. Saturday night I'll be at the woman's playoff game, so I'll be dvring the men's game. Hopefully it's worth dvring.

No Saturday TV.

Ahem.

Ah yes, I see. You're referring to your post last night in the Tech/ SCSU thread:

Gurtholfin said:
Bucky's still alive. Tech wins tomorrow, we sweep next week, about 10 other things go our way next weekend and we hoist the Cup.

You heard it here first.

Credit where credit is due, of course. But I do assure you the conclusion was independently arrived at in checking the standings before posting this morning. Read that thread afterward. Apparently great minds, and all that. Regardless, the main thing is that hope springs eternal, and nothing would be finer than a Badger win and Jan loss tonight! (and some other junk.)

If anyone's interested here's my (possibly incorrect) little notes on a 5-way tie:

scsu 35 L 35 LL 35
nd 32 T 33 WL 35
MN 31 L 31 WW 35
no 30 L 30 ww 34
DU 29 W 31 ww 35
MS 29 W 31 lw 34
WI 29 W 31 WW 35
cc 24 L 29 ww 33

:D

Yep.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Hopefully they give a lot of scoring updates at the gal's game.

Last night they gave the score a couple of times, but there will be multiple people (myself included) tracking the game on their fancy mobile devices and giving verbal updates.

Navin originally committed for either 2012 or 13 depending on his development. He shouldn't even be on the roster right now. When Jordy Murray left, Navin was the only committed player who could come in at the time. Instead of recruiting a new player, the staff decided to bring Navin in two years early. Big mistake.

I like Navin a lot and think he can be a good player, but he's not ready and unfortunately the first 2-3 years of his career are going to be wasted as a fourth liner/healthy scratch.

Congrats to Coach Sauer!

also...I didn't know Kent Davyduke was an assistant coach at Verona. Looks like I'm cheering for Verona today

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Can't help but think somewhere Badger Bob is smiling at Jeff Sauer joining him in a club that thus far, Herb Brooks hasn't been allowed into.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

too bad Verona is getting crushed...

what I'm taking out of this game most though is "god they're playing at a slow pace" in comparison to what we'll see streaming from the excel next weekend

You beat me to it.

I enjoy watching Minnesota high school hockey. Fast paced and solid skill.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Could anyone explain the Alaska vs Wisconsin PWR head to head comparison?

Wisconsin has the RPI, Alaska has the TUC.

But for the common opponents, Alaska is 4-5-1 and UW is 5-4-1. Alaska gets this comparison -- why? Error or nuance?

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

wow, 5-1 after 2. gotta run to rehearsal so I hope UW holds on.

are the kids reading this site? what the hell lit the fire this weekend? if they'd have played like this all season we wouldn't be clamoring for Eaves to get canned

For common opponents, it is the sum of the winning percentage against each common opponent. So for example, 6-0 against a specific opponent is the same as 1-0. (Both count as 1.000). I believe this change went into effect a few years ago.
