Wow. What a weekend!

With Jan Brady State coming in to the Ol' Cement Doughnut next week, the Badgers season is still breathing. Alone in 4th place and 4 points out of the Mac. It is the craziest season of all time.

Instead, we can finish anywhere from 1st to 7th. :p

Of the things that needed to happen to set up the possibility of up to a 5-way tie for the Mac, nearly all of them happened tonight. The hardest perhaps being the UND- BSU tie. It almost feels as though something's in the air for the last go round of the old WCHA.

I noted that NMU finishes the regular season with a .5004 RPI. If they can lose in their conference tournament... And CC lost... Maybe Tech can ride the wave and take care of them next week. Both these teams have a fighting chance now of falling off the TUC cliff.

Regardless, Bucky needs to Hammer Jan next week!

UW could finish 1st and not make the NCAA tournament. And what if they finish first and Eaves is coach of the year.:eek::eek: Then how do you get rid of him?

We root for Michigan Tech and Michigan next weekend. One Denver loss next weekend or one Wisconsin win (or lots of ties) clinches home ice. Obviously, there are a lot of other factors at play in the standings race, as mentioned earlier. I am super-duper excited.

If the five-way tie for first happens, they slice the MacNaughton Cup into 5 pieces, and distribute them among the five winners. This is the end of the MacNaughton cup, and the end of the current WCHA. Then the trophy leaves the conference just like all those teams leaving the conference after this year. It's perfect. It must happen.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the Badgers would get the biggest piece of the trophy because I like the Badgers.

I don't think a five way tie can happen, because Mankato and North Dakota play each other.

...It occurred to me tonight we haven't had any news on Zulinick in quite some time. Is this kid out for the season?
EDIT - yeah, 2 reg season games left and playoffs...still we haven't heard about him in some time

That's right. A four-way tie appears to be possible. (If Wisconsin can sweep St. Cloud, and Minnesota and North Dakota can get 2 points, you'd have those teams tied.)

Or Kato could sweep, and end up in the 4 way tie. Hey, just because it's never happened, doesn't mean it never could happen!

They said on the radio tonight that "we most likely won't see him until next year".

No one from the team has really said anything on the situation, but it seems as if they've decided to redshirt him. He's been skating for almost three weeks now, and I saw him skate at practice in Chicago and thought he looked ok.

I believe he should still be eligible for a redshirt since he's played in less than 30 percent of the games, and none since the half-way point of the season.

Now that the Badgers are back in the mix, I'm thinking this is the perfect last weekend for the Old But Proud WCHA. I just wish CC and DU were a point or two closer. It should be this way, especially for UW, the Sioux, and the Empire.

What a conference she was. Is, but was.

So I'm looking through the PWR grid, trying to think of comparisons we can flip. Noticing a lot of problems in how some comparisons are calculated. For instance, we're currently giving up a point to Alaska under the common opponents comparison. They are 5-5-1, we are 5-4-1. Shouldn't that comparison go to us?

By my reckoning, that comparison is wrong in both USCHO and CHN's grids.

That is the best news of the weekend, it extends one talented guy one year further for UW.

DU and the rodents have favorable match-ups and UW has the least favorable one (on paper anyway), but the WCHA is so deep, who knows.

This was addressed up the thread just a little bit. UW is indeed losing this comparison.
