Shuey coaches the forwards, obviously Eaves has a hand on both sides of the puck.

As for recruiting, obviously it's hard to know who had the most influence on a player committing but the two forwards that have committed since Shuey took over both look really, really good (Besse & Malone). On the defensive side Wittchow and Linhart are both elite recruits. It's obviously way too early to judge how they are doing in that regard overall, especially since the 2012 and 2013 classes are going to be small so they haven't made a lot of offers. Let me see how they fill out the 2013 class and how they add to the 2014 class before I give more of an opinion.

I agree. My point is Eades seems to be a an awesome recruiter and can UW afford to allow Schuey develop as a recruiter? Generally speaking, who has a bigger impact in recruiting, the Head Coach or the Coordinator?

It seems to depend on who they are. When Sauer was coach the Coordinator was blamed. With Eaves, those who have complained about the last 2 classes have given Osieki a pass.

I never said it was going to happen, I'm trying to discuss recruiting staff of UW vs UND, which you have no idea in either side, so get hell out of dodge. For the record, if Eaves can convince Mr. Rancid himself, Mr. Billy Freaking Butters, to join him at the UW, why not Eades? He knows what he is doing, and possibly has an axe to grind with the Whoix, a match made in heaven.

I'm not sure, Timothy. Butters is born again, and maybe the Badgers will bring Eades into the program as part of an effort to encourage more demonstrative affection between the two teams. We can't keep this bottled up forever, if you'll pardon the pun, and we don't want to carry the regret forever if we don't see much of each other again after next year.

Now the gophers--that's an entirely different matter. Grind away.

Some people say he would have ended up at Michigan, but he did visit Wisconsin and it was pretty well publicized that he was doing so. I believe he came along with Blake Geoffrion on his visit who had already committed to Wisconsin (they were teammates at the NTDP). The problem was that Kane was going to age out of the NTDP but he was only a junior in high school. He accelerated his schooling but only got a semester ahead. There were even rumors that he might join the Badgers for the second semester once he graduated high school but obviously he decided just to go to the OHL instead.

By the way, there is a pretty prominent UW hockey player on one of those pictures. Looks like they had a hell of a weekend.

this is very disappointing from a perspective of a fan of NCAA hockey. Chuck do you know anything about the other 2 guys? I'm wondering why the change of heart away from NCAA and to MJ?

Hartman was a funny birth-date where he aged out of the NTDP but didn't accelerate his schooling enough to come into Miami this fall so he either would have had to play a year in the USHL next year, or go to the CHL...he chose major junior.

Koules likely would have been fighting just to get into the lineup next season for UND as he has really seen his stock drop as a player over the past season and UND is going to be deep in forwards next year. His dad is also a former player who played in the CHL and is also loaded as he's a producer in Hollywood and a former owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Neither de-commit was too surprising.

The Lapic news shouldn't be surprising to anyone. I know it's been talked about here that we expected there to be some natural attrition this off-season with some of the forwards who weren't expected to play much next season. Lapic was certainly on that list.

Hartzog was also on that list and this move keeps him on the roster at least another season. Eaves and Butters tried him on defense in practice for a while last season but he never saw time there during a game. As for Ryan Little, I'm sure Eaves would like him to be in the lineup as a forward as he's one of the teams top penalty killers. Badgers will be fine on D with McCabe/Simonelli/Faust/Wittchow/Ramage/Schulze/Drake and Hartzog is the wild card. Only reason I could see Little moving is if there are a few injuries and the coaches don't trust Hartzog.

It was between UW and BU. His parents wanted him to go to BU because it was closer to Buffalo.
