*** are you talking about? Eaves was born in Colorado and grew up in Canada.

He played for the North Stars. He's a Minnesotan.

Or is he a Texan?

****! Now I'm confused...

Thanks for bringing this up; I was wondering the same while watching the game tonight. (Mike Smith is filthy. If it weren't for him, PHX wouldn't even be in the post season.)

no prob, I hadn't heard his name in a while and checked in to see if he was playing but found no info (well I didn't check the news that deeply yet) on his status.

effing mike smith. he took out chicago, I'll never forgive him!

I myself was pretty darn happy he took them out. :) I was bummed the Wings got knocked out, but at least it was to Smith and Suter, go Preds. Also bummed Pavs got knocked out too, hopefully Elliott plays more and can knock out the Kings. Go Rangers. My son's a big Broduer fan, so go Devils.

hey guys, I haven't been watching the preds at all in the playoffs, is Craig Smith injured? I just noticed on the preds site he's played just 1 post-season game.

He's played in two of six games but he's been in a limited role since late in the season. Preds upgraded their offense at the trade deadline with Andrei Kostitsyn and Paul Gaustad and then they got Radulov back from the KHL so they basically added an entire new line to the team for the playoffs and Smith's playing time has suffered as a result.

Good assessment. Smitty's time will come.

Kostitsyn, Radulov, Kostitsyn (a Russian Law Office?) .....difficult for ANY rookie to break into that line-up.

I also wonder if the Preds are seeing that the wear and tear of the grind of his first professional season are starting to really take a toil.

got it. preds were off my radar the last 1/2 of the season.

Radulov absolutely sucked tonight from what I saw. total lax effort on both ends of the ice. hopefully that gives C. Smith an opportunity for next game

My apologies if this is old news, but Patrick Daly has transferred to Division III St. Thomas.

Is it just me, or does that make his announcement to leave the team that much more odd? Was there an academic ineligibility issue perhaps?

I wouldn't believe that academic issues were at play if he was able to directly transfer to St. Thomas. To me, this move just confirms that he was being truthful when he said that was ready to move on with the rest of his life or at least find more of a hockey/life balance. St. Thomas is not a bad landing place to try and find that.

Considering he's planning on going to medical school, I'd say there is little to no chance at academic problems.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

I stand corrected.

I guess I just found it odd that he felt the need to transfer elsewhere and keep playing hockey given the reasons he had for leaving the team. (That and, as much as I know ST is a good school, I did now a guy who went there for athletics, and let's just say he wound up coaching high school football last I knew... In other words, academics only mean so much to a varsity athlete, and that doesn't change no matter what school you go to)

Here were his quotes after he first announced he was leaving:

"I am ready to move onto the next stage in my life and I want to focus primarily on school and working towards my degree."

"I didn't see myself playing in the NHL so I wanted to spend my time focusing on improving my GPA rather then my hockey abilities."

"This decision was 100% mine. It had nothing to do with the coaching staff, team, or University. I have nothing but good things to say about all of them," Daly said. "It was just a personal decision."

"The coaching staffs reaction was that they were surprised and that it was unexpected."

"But they were understanding about it, and I appreciated how they handled the unexpected news. I wish them all the best."

We live in a world where Robbie Earl said he'd be <strike>going to Michigan</strike> staying for a senior season. What players say to the media only means so much.

As a member of the quasi-media, you should know this by now.

No doubt, was just re-posting what he initially said. Obviously the demands of a d-3 hockey player are different than of those at Wisconsin. Hopefully it works out for him, he's a kid with a good head on his shoulders. Playing at this level isn't for everyone.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

I happened over on to Lowetide's blog today and in the comments of a post there was a lot of talk (aka hope) of Justin Schutlz signing with Edmonton. He is going to be a big prize this summer for one team, and apparently that won't be the Ducks.

The Oilers need a great defenseman, if they could land Schultz as a free agent loophole signee, and then get a stud in the draft, they might make the playoffs again in our lifetimes.
