Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

jesus is Ramage cursed or is he just playing out of position? was that the 4th or 5th goal he's knocked in for the opposition?

it's just infuriating
Interesting you bring that up now about Ramage. There's a new study just out sponsored by researchers at Whiteys, a drink tank out of western Minnesota, that sheds some light on this. Apparently, most defensemen kick or direct the puck into their own net at least two or three times during their lives. When it happens with frequency (like Ramage), it's usually the result of a deeply buried Sioux-envy. Because of the great rink, cool logo, and hot chicks, most college hockey players eventually come to realize they should have chosen North Dakota. The academic prestige actually plays a part too, but some student athletes are intimidated by it. Ramage no doubt has realized that being a Badger is almost as bad as being a Badger fan, and he is just working through those issues.

But not to worry, as soon as the Nodaks lose their name and logo, his symptoms should subside.

Luckily, I do not think this "research" has any validity. ;)

Peer review-Where "Garbage In, Garbage Out" research goes to die :)

Hockey communications staff runs that website. The "letter from Eaves" was obviously written over the summer before Smith turned pro. Obviously the site doesn't generate enough traffic to have someone complain about it to force a correction.
:o ****ing A, I didn't even notice it....I guess my comprehension isn't what it once was. :o

Regarding last night, these guys show that they can play with anybody. They took one from Goldy and tied (so far) the 'dogs when both were top ranked. Rumpel looks very good most of the time, but he's a freshman and looks like it at times, just like all the others. I really like this team and looking forward to the game in 2hrs40min.

hell of a nice coast to coast rush by Derek Stepan today for one of his 2 goals. he'd be a senior now and I'd guess he'd be a 60-70 point producer at this level as a SR.

Craig Smith leading scorer for Nashville w/Ryan Suter just 2 pts shy I believe

On a similar note: Brian Elliott is rippin' and tearin' right now. 1.46 GAA is lowest in the league (Jimmy Howard is next with 1.85... That's quite a gap). His .947 SV% (wow!) also leads the league. Impressive stuff.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

While this weekend was a tad (or a lot) disappointing, mainly saturday night, I was really impressed w/ Brad Navin. The staff obviously made the right choice bringing him in this season instead of sending him to juniors, because he is steadily progressing and playing really well. 2-1-3 on the weekend I believe. Again pleasant surprise among the freshman, when the sophs and frosh meld into a team and start playing consistently, the Badgers will be tough. Might be next season first before it all comes together, but should be a great last season in the WCHA.

I haven't given up on this season, but they have a tough road just to get home ice this season, just looking for consistentcy and improvement the rest of the way.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

I agree with most comments so far. I was not that disappointed Saturday, as I thought that we carried the play for large portions of the game, we were just unable to put the puck in the net. So even though we only got one point, I wouldn't call the weekend a disaster. I am looking forward to the next year or two, this team should be excellent.

However, because I am an optimist, I could see us playing very well in the playoffs...who says we can't win the final five? These guys will be much more mature then. Of course we could lose in the first round also, I guess that is why they play the games.

Smith would be a 60-70 pt guy too the way he's tearing up the NHL. This year could have been another 89/90 year with lots of big point guys like Tancill, Byce, Shuchuck, Hill and Ritcher.

Really a bummer that the game got away from the boys Saturday night.

The next 6 games should all be in the winnable column, with RIT, UAA and Kato on the docket. I am really curious how this long break will affect the younger lads.

Bringing over the discussion about canned music at UW games from the game thread.....UW is doing this now? Was the band not there?

Interesting. I wonder if this is some sort of league directive because it has been happening at UM too and it really ticks me off.

I really want to see this team put up quality back to back games against a top-5 WCHA team. So far the sequence is a decent Friday followed by a poor Saturday. Not going to get home ice or out of the 1st round, let alone win the F5 if they can't start stringing good games together.

I concur with this though I'm personally not really concerned with home ice or the F5 to me those are small icings on the cake. the cake being the NCAA tourney and as of now the way I'm reading it (and I mentioned this in the UMD thread) UW has 0 chance to get in (meaning getting to about 19 wins). They'd have to sweep 6 of 8 series in a 2month span and I don't know if they've ever done in that in their history.

They win the F5 and they are in, no? I just think that is the most likely scenario.

Yeah, but it's nearly impossible to get into the NCAA tournament without earning home ice in the first round. Winning the F5 will give them the autobid to the NCAA. So all three are interrelated, and it all comes down to playing better overall and winning games.

It's a trend at sites that have good crowds. Seems to be part of Leerfield Sports who manage these sites. I hate it.

if they win the F5, yes, but I don't see anything in a 1/2 season of work that would indicate they can make that run and win the F5.

I think they end up with about 15 wins. Minnesota/Nodak/Mankato on the road are tough with the first two possibly being 1 point outcomes. Denver plays great @ the Kohl center leaving just RIT/St.Cloud/@ Bemidji for games to put some points away.

I hope I'm wrong but about 15 wins is what I see right now with that schedule and past performance

I sure hope they don't get too much into this. The band and the students should be leading the way, and the band makes canned music un-needed. UW needs to run the show, not Leerfield sports. This is a college event, the band gives it all the flavor of a college event.

Any comments on the tweaked uni's? I'm a traditionalist, I'm not a big fan of the stripe changes.

There's almost a zero % chance of UW making the NCAA this year. There's just not much of a sign that they boys cab string together a winning heavy stretch, other than the first 6 after the break.

It's a Reebok thing. I saw a high school game recently and they have the exact same jerseys (obviously don't say Wisconsin).

Regardless, there's lots of talk on the Badger Nation football board that UW may be switching away from Adidas/Reebok because of unfair labor practices and switching to Under Armour. Boston College is an UA school and they do the hockey teams uniforms as well.

We could possibly go from Addidas jerseys, to Reebok jerseys, to Under Armour jerseys in a matter of a few years.
