Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

The advantage is the 28-30 point threshold is nearly independent of what other teams do. If you can get to over 0.500 in league play that is theoretically good enough for home ice (depending on how the points are distributed among the teams). The Badgers DO have an uphill climb to get to that 0.500 level, and how close they get will depend on how they do on the road. If they can't get the points at Mankato or BSU they will need to secure home ice, winning a first round playoff series on the road will be nearly impossible. If they can get 12/16 points available in home games, and 8/16 points available on the road they will end with 29 points and be around where they need to be to get home ice. Can they become a 0.750 team at home and a 0.500 team on the road over the rest of the season, doubtful since it gives the team VERY little margin for error but anything is possible. The team has the talent to do it, they just need to put all the pieces together.

I've looked at this website many times over the past few seasons, and he has the Badgers at a 30% chance of getting home ice at the current time. Obviously this is completely stats based, and as Chuck pointed out the Badgers do get a big boost coming back for sure by the New Year w/ Lee and McCabe, and doesn't account for other team's injuries and what not. From a purely mathematical stand point, the Badgers have a lot of work to do.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

I did the wcha "what if calculator" (I love that thing) and UW ended up with 23 pts in 8th place, St. Cl. had 27 in 7th, the sue 30 in 6th. I had UW going 3-5 on the road, which one might think is optimistic, and 4-4 at home, which one migh think is conservative.

Jeez I miss the old, original sieve chant (circa 70's and 80's. Any of you alive then?) It was slow, deep, kind of like a fog horn. Nothing in between the chants, etc, *sigh*

TOTALLY agree w/you on this.

I've mentioned this before but I think if we got even just 15-20 of us who miss the old cheers together in one section for a couple of games we could *maybe* re-start some of the old cheers:) all depends I guess if the kids pay attention

nice! I've been trying to get some posters together prior to UW/UMN or UW/Nodak games but thusfar no luck. If I make the trip to the TC in March I'll try again.

one old "classic" that the UW minnesota-born players used to get a kick out of is on Senior night when introduced @ the Great Dane the UW crowd would sieve them just for being from Minnesota.

You know, I think I remember hearing about that. Let me know about meeting up. Would love to talk some puck and have some beers before a game.

"But, but... that doesn't make sense... they're not even goalies... how can they be sieves if they're not goalies? I don't think that Badger fans know what that word means. Because they're not using it correctly. I mean, they even sieve an empty net."

"It just plays into how us Minnesota hockey fans perceive Wisconsin fans and their lack of knowledge of the game. And when they call the empty net a better goalie? I mean, a net isn't a goalie, so how can it be a better goalie? See, they just don't understand the game."

Seriously, the idiot Gopher fans can't figure out why the empty net gets sieved. This would REALLY throw them for a loop and probably crash this server and GPL.

I think we should do it! ;)

:D I wholeheartedly endorse this move.

Today, Gurt is using a medium heavy action rod with a crankbait in 8-10 feet of water. He is casting into the weeds adjacent to a drop off of 5 additional feet. He is patiently awaiting the esox strike. Will he be successful?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

I can look past using the sieve chant after an empty net goal. But after your own team gets scored on to go down 4-1? Not so much.

Nah, this is using an ultra-lite with 4lb test and a #2 Panther Martin casting at the undercut bank.

The only fish actually worth catching are fat and old (and some, bald, or so it's rumored) and they've lived to such an age by being very hard to hook.

Don't pout Gurty, it's annoying.
