Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Will there be an "Us vs. Them" thread for next week? I'm waiting for somebody more creative than I am to start a **** talker.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Seems like only yesterday DC was a naive Freshman Coastie... and now he's all grown up and quoting FDA Dairy requirements like he's lived here his whole life!

Gets me a little choked up...

And then he will soon move back east and leave us behind. Sniffle sniffle. Old posters never die, they just fade away.

I already graduated, but I'll be here for the foreseeable future.

Yes, this meshes well with all my behind the scenes work to get DC named the next AD. If all goes well he will not only be the youngest AD in the B1G, but more importantly, the first to implement a new $100,000,000+ Hockey budget.

I'll also make it a point of emphasis to encourage (and educate) students to actually learn the words to the fight song, something that should be standard for a big Big Ten school. I'd be surprised if even 2% of student section (excluding current or former band members) at any given football game knows the words, and I'm pretty sure that's the real reason Gary Andersen bailed so quickly.

Then they can learn the other verses, the losing version (for after losses), and the dirty version (for when you feel like boosting the silliness level).

On, Wisconsin!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Ticket sales look strong going into Gopher weekend.

A quick count on the ticketing website looks like the 100 level is mostly full for both nights, about 125 left for Friday and less than 25 for Saturday.
Of course there are still TONS of seats left in the 300 level for both nights.

I was pleasantly surprised by the attendance last weekend against MSU. On Saturday you could have probably moved people out of the 300 to fill up the 100 and 200. I realize that this is a far cry from years gone by, but looking at where things have been I'll take this as a positive sign.

Also, in an effort to "increase the quality of the gameday experience" (or some other Athletic Department buzzword), it looks like new video boards and sound equipment are on the way for the Kohl Center

Attendance....will the men's team have a game's attendance that surpass the women's attendance that will occur on Saturday? They are pushing 13000 in sales. If they can't do it Saturday against the rodents, it's not going to happen.

I was just looking at ticket availability for the women's game and the Saturday Goofs game. I seriously doubt the men's goof game will surpass the women's. There can't be more than a couple hundred left for women's and I'd imagine there will be a decent amount of tickets purchased at the door. The men's goof game still has multiple sections on the ends and in the corners where they haven't even made rows 6 and up available for purchase.

$1 tickets versus $24 and family four packs for slightly less....

Nobody's trying to assert that demand for women's tickets is higher than demand for men's tickets overall; we know it's the case of a special event. It's still an interesting thing to think about.

If you are looking at the 3rd level, you need to look in 2 places.

They have general tickets available for single/multiple purchase. They also have upper rows in most 300 sections that are blocked off for the "Family 4-pack" purchases.

It is, and it's pretty cool. We know the stands will be filled with families with little kids, neighbors, aunts, uncles.....and the little kids are future hockey fans and season ticket holders, cah-CHING!

You bring 6 people...$144.00 vs $6.00 and some food items. It better be full and you better bring donated food, and buy plenty of popcorn, hot dogs, and pop for that price! I'd like to be an audio tech and record the crowd noise during each game on Saturday. It would be interesting to hear it.

They are going to make a killing on food at the game with 4 to 6 game, right on top of dinner time. I'm going to try and convince the kids to hold out for Rocky's after the game, or maybe Culvers and get some free dairy product if we are so fortunate to get 5 goals.

I see what you did there. How many kids are you packing in the mini-van? Or are you hauling them in your Muskie Machine?

I'm really happy to see Kohl Center sell out for the women's team and given how well the goofs weekend for the men is looking, a Saturday sell out isn't out of the question. Nice turn around.

With regards to the men's team, the rebuilding of the fan base and (fan) culture started last week, not at the start of the season (or last spring). The small core of the local hockey+Badgers community came back (at least somewhat), as they knew what the new hires meant. The long-term building of the fan base (i.e. most of the damage to be repaired) couldn't really start until the second half, as UW hockey was in the first half what it was for years - out of sight/mind for pretty much everyone who wasn't actively seeking it out.

Next week's series against the gophers should look and sound like Badgers hockey, so it should be another small step in the right direction.

8 total in our group, taking 2 vehicles. Traded the minivan in years ago for an Explorer, needed more horsepower to tow the Musky Machine around, that Windstar was struggling at the end, the *** end was sagging worse than..... Love the V8 power. :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

The women have sold out the Kohl. :) I wasn't so sure they'd sell it out.
