Re: Wisconsin Hockey Recruiting Vol. XXXIV: Go pick me out a winner, Strand

Nice article from Scout about some of the upcoming recruits with some feedback from them on why they picked UW.

McGuire is listed as both a forward and a defenseman in 2017-2018. Good work keeping up with all the developments!

****it. I got him out of the Junior year but forgot Senior year.

You people keep me on my toes, no doubt about that.

You do a great job keeping it up, so we just have to help with proof reading.

Was just seeing that Heisenberg still has Martin Sundberg as a Badger commit and someone had mentioned Fargo's tryout camp had him listed as committed as well. May have to add him back in when there is some sort of confirmation.

It will be interesting to see if some forward recruits from the Eaves regime are not brought in at all, or pushed back. i supposed they could do another "purge" of players from the team next summer as well to get the total number of players to where it needs to be...

Be very careful reading @Bobby_Kunz12 work. Was caught fabricating quotes & attributing them to recent UW hockey recruits in his last piece.

I'm willing to give him a chance and see what he can bring to the UW media coverage. I'd love to see another outlet pick up regular coverage of recruits, players, games, coaches, press conferences...

He got Emberson's name wrong multiple times and I'm pretty sure he wrote that one of the recruits was first going to play for the London Knights. Then he fabricated quotes from recruits and you still think he deserves a chance?

I don't know how he even has a job after he did something like that.

Yeah, the London Knights thing was the kicker for me. If that happens, the kid is literally no longer a UW recruit. It's like suggesting that a UW basketball recruit is going to get a nice contract from a booster.

Cole Krygier - Cole plays against his twin brother, fellow Wisconsin commit Christian, which motivates him on a constant basis. Cole plays for Compuware 16U and was drafted in the 10th round in the OHL draft to the London Knights, where he will play before joining the Badgers.

But beyond that, making up quotes... jeez. He's got some things to learn, if we want to put it mildly. More likely he really shouldn't be writing anything after that.

Yup, there were some goof-ups in his article. I think a few people probably brought that to his attention.

To the fans, it feels like a low-risk/high-reward situation. Either he gets his act together and becomes a solid source of information for UW fans or he doesn't. If he does, that's great, more media coverage; if he doesn't we are in the same place that we are now with Baggot toeing the company line at UWBadgers.com and Milewski covering from WSJ.

From that perspective, I'll take the risk to see if he can get his head on straight and become another voice for Badger hockey information.

Being wrong about a fact when you are new is one thing. Making up quotes is a demonstration of a lack of journalistic integrity and is a completely disqualifying action for any journalist (even sports journalist) that I will respect, let alone follow.

If you ask me, you're setting the bar amazingly low for coverage. Someone who is fabricating information shouldn't be looked at for a source of information in the future, their materials should be ignored henceforth.

I know that we're starved for more information at this point, but we shouldn't be desperately clinging to sites hoping that they give us any nugget of information.
