Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Very true, as will the other 3 schools that are in attendance. This is why it will be so exciting to see how each section makes the most out of it, it will be an electric atmosphere.

Given the size of the arena, and the fact that no local schools are involved, and the number of fans not associated with one of the 4 teams, I fear that the atmosphere is going to be totally underwhelming.

Also expounded upon the Thurber situation and IF that stuff is true, which I no assume that it is since he plead guilty, then good riddance.

Agree...liked Thurber as a player very much. I find it hard to believe turning over at least 7 forwards this off season, that Thurber would not have had a prominent role in the lineup and that he was "forced" out for his scholarship dollars as some allude to. The allegations made in the article are pretty hard to look past and Eaves decision is understandable if any of that is even remotely true. Hopefully Thurber uses his second chance wisely and makes the best of it.

Yea, the choking thing alone could have got him kicked off the team for good. Then the whole, going to toss you out the window is a no brainer for the university. That's too bad that something like this happened for everyone involved.

I mean, c'mon now, this isn't the football team... :D

All kidding aside, there's no place for that kind of off-ice behavior, but I can't say that I'd react much differently than Thurber did given the (alleged) situation.

Fortunately, I've never been in that situation, but I'd like to think that I'd walk away and just dump her. I realize how humiliating that could be and that someone would want to lash out, but 1000's go through the same situation every year without getting arrested.

In addition, choking and threatening death is escalating the situation. It's not equitable retaliation. If you want to get even, go get yourself laid, twice.;)

Was she worth it?

For an outsider, could somebody give a cliffnotes version of the Thurber incident or what is known about it?

1. Girlfriend cheated
2. Thurber found out
3. Choked the girl
4. Picked her up over his shoulder
5. Threatened to throw her six stories down
6. Kicked off team
7. Transferring to Northern Michigan
8. His first eligible game is against Wisconsin (fitting?)

NOTE: This is what was said in the article, so only the individuals involved really know the truth, but it does seem fitting.

Been out of state for a wedding the last week, have any bars been listed as the Badger bar in Detroit? We're staying downtown at the Westin and looking for somewhere to go before and after the games.

The official one is Cheli's, but you'd have to be able to stomach all that Red Wings crap.

The Red wing stuff isn't so bad. Better red than dead. :D The thing that bothers me more is his kid ended up going to MI St. and from what I read, he never seriously considered UW.

I thought he went to Michigan?

BOYCOT! :D

Now that is something I could stomach ;)

My wings are coming for your hawks (excluding Burish of course:) )

I have been wondering how much time, given the long turnover, do the Badgers spend focusing on RIT video and how much they spend covering both Miami and BC (I assume they prepare somewhat for either team)?

I don't recall if this was in the WSJ or in a blog, but I read somewhere that Chris Chelios wanted Dean to play close to home. Guess Chris wasn't counting on being out of the Red Wings equation

That's exactly what I recall as well. I'm not bothered to look up where I saw it, but I do remember that being the main reason.

Actually, I think the Detroit Beer Co. is the official site, with Cheli's an "unofficial" one at best. Quite frankly, I'm indifferent between giving my beer and food $ to a stranger or an extremely passive alumnus.

Chalk it up to having a bad temper. At least, these days I have a much longer fuse. Can't say I've ever resorted to violence, but given the situation, I can see how it could happen. Not saying he was right, and I think that he got what he deserved in getting kicked off the team.

Based purely on food and beverage quality, Detroit Beer Co. is the better choice. Granted, it's been a while since I've been out drinking in Detroit, so take my opinion for what it's worth...
