EDIT: No longer drunk, and my comment still stands. Imagine that! :D

With the long break before they play for the title, do any of these players get distracted thinking about the contract they are going to sign after the frozen four?

Eh...I don't think it's any more of a distraction now than it would be any other time. I'm pretty sure the boys are focused on one goal right now.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

That is correct.

Most visiting arenas that RIT has played have been 200 X 85, though.

I don't think the ice size matters as much as RIT has played their last 4 games on the NHL size.

i have heard it tossed around that RIT's problems against bigger teams and OOC teams (who we always play either away or at the the offcampus location with a larger arena) is partially a result of the rink size. rit under wilson has always seemed to play a tighter and very physical game. this works quite well against the weaker teams they faced often in D3 and in the AHA, and as such they have a very good home record over the years. however, when forced to play against teams equal in talent on larger sheets i feel like the team is sometimes exposed a bit more.

OK, maybe I haven't been paying attention and it's been mentioned, but I had no idea Brendan Smith's brother is a freshman at Miami...huh? Actually pretty decent numbers too, 8-12-20 and has played in every game.

The WCH blog is reporting that Matt Thurber will continue his college hockey career with Northern Michigan........

.........he will have to sit out a year and his first game in a NMU jersey will be the opener of the 2011/12 season against.......... the Wisconsin Badgers.

Good luck to Matt.

I personally cannot wait to see your fan base in person. One of my buddies went to a couple of your football games this season and it looks like to corner crew may finally meet a good rival! Good luck guys we'll see you soon!

Hard to predict how they will be at the actual game, since people will be spread out so much and you probably won't be able to hear a chant from one end of the rink to the other...but I can guarantee you that outside of the games, at the hotels and watering holes, we will be having a good time and you'll know Wisconsin is in town. :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

That's not what I was saying. Here's how I see it...

There were 10 finalists and for those voters who haven't made up their minds, the playoffs and tourney can be a last chance to see these guys and/or look at data. With this in mind, it can be better to not be in the playoffs than be in and not put up numbers or look less than outstanding.

So if a voter had Smith and another finalist tied and checked in on our games last weekend, they may not have come away with the impression that Smith should move on. That lackadaisical PP where he basically gave up a shortie all by himself could have been real tipping point. Now I realize that this shouldn't override all that he accomplished during the season, but for someone who doesn't know him, it could have been huge.

Finally, I don't doubt that some voters wouldn't want two finalists from one school either and if you have to choose between our two, Blake edges him out.

To be honest, I think that Smith is a great talent and is more physically gifted than Blake, but this award isn't given to the the most physically talented player. There's more to the judging and judging is why I'm not all that excited about this however it goes.

I'm just glad we have both of them on our team.
Im glad we have both too and I dont deny that Smith has some great physical talents, but he just doesnt seem to have the instincts and hockey sense that Geoffrion does.
Smith has his moments of brilliance, but those moments are as frequent as are Geoffrion's moments.

Yeah, there was an article last week by Baggot talking about it. From what I remember, it sounded like Eaves offered him a spot on next year's team, but he wanted to play this year, so he signed with Miami.

Nice to see Thurber landed on his feet. Another kid from Beaver Dam went to NM, I think he was a senior this year.

I really see Craig Smith as the next Geoffrion, except he may better offensively by his senior year.

Murray has gone a little quiet lately. Maybe he's the next guy to jump to the forefront, like Mitchell did.

The article on line about the week off in between the regionals and FF has me a tad concerned in that some players don't like it, therefore I am worried they will psyc themselves out a bit. Another mental issue, Eaves has been emphasizing quick starts lately. I hope if they end up down a goal or 2, heaven forbid, that they stay the course and play their systems. We've all seen talented teams get down, then start playing as individuals, and not as teams. I recall 1 game in Duluth that happened this year, the shut out game. The breakout broke down to individuals skating the puck up the ice & try and make a play vs passing.

To continue the Timothy A Family tradition of scheduling events on UW playoff games, my wife is having a Pampered Chef couples:( party on Thursday. The UW game should be ending right around the time the people will start showing up. I told her I may be unavailable for a period of time. She understood. They should be gone by the time the BC/Miami games starts. Saturday, I've got an event pencilled too, in with a guest list ready to go....;)

Wisconsin Hockey: It's all in your head

.... The NCAA gives each school a section to sit together. That would really suck if you guys didnt get to pack together thats half the fun of the game is going back and forth. But believe me you'll know me when you see me (take hint with my name). But still I know your guys are crazy and I can't wait!

The schools are allotted what, 400 tickets? There's certainly going to be more fans for each team than that in attendance - hence, being spread out. Certainly a different experience than being in an arena of 15,000 Badger fans. Plus, I'd wager most people that are not actual Wisconsin fans will be rooting for RIT.

True, it wont hold a candle to a game at the Kohl, but Im sure Badger nation will make it's presence known.

Junior defenseman Brendan Smith was named Insidecollegehockey.com’s Defenseman of the Year.

A first-round draft pick of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, he leads the nation’s rear guards with 15 goals, 32 assists and 47 points, outpacing the nation’s next closest defenseman by nine points and the next WCHA defenseman by 19 points. Smith’s point total is the most for a defenseman since Denver Hobey Baker Award winner Matt Carle posted 53 in 2005-06.

Smith, the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the All-WCHA First Team and last weekend was voted to the 2010 NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team.

One of the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award in 2010, Smith leads Division I defensemen in goals, power-play goals, assists, and points.

Very true, as will the other 3 schools that are in attendance. This is why it will be so exciting to see how each section makes the most out of it, it will be an electric atmosphere.

True, but nobody does it like we do in Wisconsin.
