Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

No matter who wins, it will be the most underwhelming winner in a while, IMO.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

So was Mitchell and he was lauded as a hero this past weekend.

I was calling Mitchell every name in the book during that first period. You don't equate Mitchell's value to the team with Smith's, do you?

I'm not saying that Smith isn't deserving, it's just to be expected based on past experience. Just like with the Heisman and the conference championship games in football. That award is won and lost in those games.

To the other poster who asked why I would call Geoffrion a longshot, I don't know, I'm just a little jaded due to past experience. Rhino and Elliott BOTH should have won in their respective years and they were both better players than Blake.

Like I said, I hope he wins it and maybe the East coast votes will be split.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

By the way, Smith had 3 penalties this weekend, Geoffrion had two. So I'm not sure I get your argument on being in the box all weekend.

Didn't say that.

Okay, I get it. You really wanted Smith to be in the final 3. Take a breath and get over it.

In watching the games this past weekend, my perception was that Brenden didn't contribute as much as he had at other parts of the season. A part of that was the timeliness of his penalties. Another was that Vermont went out of their way to eliminate him.

I'm not gonna sit down and do a +/- analysis or anything else. And you know what? Any voters who bothered to check in on our games didn't either and in watching our games, Brenden didn't jump out of the screen. Blake did.

It's a waste of time to argue based on how things should be. The fact of the matter is that the playoffs matter a lot in this process whether it's fair or whether we like it or not.

Right on with Elliott and Rhino. I'd actually make a case for Heatley for that same season as Rhino. 28g 28a as a frosh:eek:

I don't particularly put any emphasis on individual awards but when it drags on like this (for Rush fans see rock Hall of Fame) the years make it seem more important than it is. So each passing year has this badger fan wondering W-T-F? really? Chelios, Driver, G. Suter, T. Granato, P. Ranheim, Richter, CUJO, Zent, Byce, Schuchuk, Fairchild, Mellanby, Flatley, Reinprecht, Heatley, and so many more....ugh

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Why does Wisconsin have so many people with red hair? My theory - too much cousin sex screwing up genetics. But seriously, talk about an ugly *** state of people.

This from someone whose state elected a former wrestler and a has-been comedian. It must be the lutefisk diet.
Oh, and don't forget Walter Mon-dull, the man who lost the most lopsided Presidential election EVER! He made Al-Bore look exciting.

The more important question: why do so many really good hockey players come to UW and not UM? To get an education from a GOOD school!

Whatever. So which Minnesota team do you cheer for and when do they play next?

Anyways, very glad to see Geoffrion make the Hobey Hat Trick, although I am not surprised. He certainly deserves it, really turned it up a notch this season.

I have lived in Minnesota my entire life, and find it so funny how arrogant they are thinking that they are so much better than people from Wisconsin. Guys like this show the true class of Gopher fans.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Congrats to Geoffrion on being in the final three!

While I would be quite happy for him if he won it, honestly, I just can't get that excited. Ever since 2000 and Reino, the Hobey is merely interesting, not EXCITING or A BIG DEAL to me. That's not to belittle the award, exactly; it's a tremendous achievement and whoever wins it should be proud. I just can't get overly excited about it myself.

Jealousy is a female trait.

1) Because all of your relatives moved out of Minnesota to get away from you.
2)I think you were in the hall of mirrors when you saw all the ugly *** people.
Now go play somewhere else troll.

Dude, I thought all of your people were found, with pudding cups in their hands and black Nike's on their feet, without a pulse. How did you manage to escape?

I agree with this. I'd like him to win it coz he seems like a decent fellow, but this is a subjective process and I'm far more interested in the objective of winning a 7th title.

Where's VW?

Haunting the Bucks' boards?

Maybe his internet got shut off.

Exactly, Smith is good but he's no Blake Geoffrion.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Exactly, Smith is good but he's no Blake Geoffrion.

That's not what I was saying. Here's how I see it...

There were 10 finalists and for those voters who haven't made up their minds, the playoffs and tourney can be a last chance to see these guys and/or look at data. With this in mind, it can be better to not be in the playoffs than be in and not put up numbers or look less than outstanding.

So if a voter had Smith and another finalist tied and checked in on our games last weekend, they may not have come away with the impression that Smith should move on. That lackadaisical PP where he basically gave up a shortie all by himself could have been real tipping point. Now I realize that this shouldn't override all that he accomplished during the season, but for someone who doesn't know him, it could have been huge.

Finally, I don't doubt that some voters wouldn't want two finalists from one school either and if you have to choose between our two, Blake edges him out.

To be honest, I think that Smith is a great talent and is more physically gifted than Blake, but this award isn't given to the the most physically talented player. There's more to the judging and judging is why I'm not all that excited about this however it goes.

I'm just glad we have both of them on our team.
