Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Hotel booked in Southfield for Fri and Sat night. Just can't get away from work for the Thurs. game. Can't wait to see how it all shakes out. 7 and I'll be in heaven!

Unh fan here, by far think you have best shot to win it all , good luck and play like you played us in beginning of year you should have no problem..... Butler for Hobey......

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I think that the overriding problem is the ticket price. Just like the Camp Randall fiasco, why not charge less and have more people there? You can make money back on concessions and parking. You have ZERO chance of getting any locals to those games with the prices where they are. In addition, atmosphere counts and mostly empty arenas are a drag. Foolishness.

Absolutely. I was considering taking a half day of vacation on Friday to drive up to St. Paul, where I would have had a place to stay for free or very cheap, and in the end, the face value on the tickets really just made it a little too expensive to consider. Seeing so many empty seats bummed me out watching it on TV, it would have bummed me out even more if I had been there.

We bought our four tickets for the '08 Madison regional as soon as they went on sale, and it was a big mistake. Ticket office wouldn't know "best available" if it bit them in the ***. We were able to move to better seats, however, where we could actually see the game.
Yeah, we bought ours the first day they were on sale, we got stuck in the last row of the 200s, which in itself wasn't terrible, but I highly doubt those were the "best available" at the time we ordered.

We ordered ours immediately and we were stuck way down in the first few rows in the corner.

I like the last row of the 200s. Our Saturday night tickets are last row of the 200s, on the blue line. I'm surprised you got those, because time and again it has been our experience that they consider good seats to be way down low. I hate those seats because you can't see half the action.

What I have decided is not to order tickets when they give you no ability to state a preference (first level, second level, sides, ends). Many venues do. And I've learned that even when they don't at the first ticket offering, the ability often appears later in the process. And there's always the scalpers.

I've decided that I'm going to try buying from the scalpers next time the Badgers are in a regional that is close enough to drive to... No point in laying out all the money before hand to get crummy seats. Even if they end up costing more than face, (I have no idea, I've never bought tix off the guys selling on the streets) so be it.

I'll bet they don't sell for more than face if the place in only a third full. :p

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

thought I would post this here (also did in the Detroit info thread):

Hotel tip for those willing to have a short commute in. I booked through Priceline, and got the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn for $50 a night ($178.68 total with taxes for the 3 nights).

That's where I stayed when the '77 team won it all. :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Hobey Hat Trick gets announced tomorrow. I can't wait to see what the blog rights up about it.

I wonder which of the two will make the cut...maybe both will get a spot.

After this weekend I think Blake will be one of the three picked.

Geoffrion better be part of the Hat Trick. If this goes to the best all around player in the country who the hell else is there? Outside of goalies who play the whole game, no one on the Badger team has a bigger influence on any given game then Geoffrion.

He has run one of the best EV lines in the country all season w/ a revolving LW. That line plays the best every team has each night, and still lights up the score board, while keeping them from doing the same.

Him and the Bohmber compose arguably the best PK forward pairing in NCAA hockey, those two are just shut down.

While the PP has been up and down all year, he is a big body in front of the net creating some chaos. 14 PP goals isn't by chance, nor just garbage goals in front.

His faceoff % (last I saw was 63%, went something like 22 of 34 on saturday) is just out of this world.

His shooting % is in the mid 20% range.

He is the heart and soul of this Badger team, his leadership and personality are unquestioned IMO.

He might not have the most goals, or the most points, but at the end of the day, there is not a better forward or player in the country all around. Brendan Smith's numbers are great, but Blake Geoffrion is a difference maker who can change the game any shift, and is never a defensively liability.

He wears the "C" for a reason, he is their leader, and the Badgers will follow #5 to #7.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

picked up tickets two last sat. game for $50/seat. Had a choice between first row on the glass or 1st row club leve. I went with the glass. We have the Sat package in the second level and love them, but was worried with the small crowd it wouldn't be the right atmosphere, and the glass was different and something to remember, plus some great picture opps. Either way ordering tickets for Sat game through ticketmaster would have been 120 for two. Just no reason to do that.

Agree!!! If Geoffrion doesnt make the hat trick, it will be a shame. No Badger has ever won the Hobey, so Im really hoping that Geoffrion wins it.

He made it and I can't argue with Smith being left out as he didn't have the best weekend in St. Paul.

I gotta think that Blake is a long shot, but one never knows. It would be strange to think that he'd win it after all of those who have come through here and didn't.

Here's hoping though as I'm a fan and have enjoyed watching him as a Badger.

We can always hope, especially if he plays well in the FF. Even if he doesnt win the Hobey, Ive enjoyed watching him play for the Badgers and look foreward to seeing how his NHL career turns out.

But should ONE weekend really define a season?

I think that you could make an argument to include/exclude any of the 10 finalist from the hattrick based off of they sum of the players performance during the season.

Add to that Mr. Smith's poor off the ice transgression in the past and it isn't really a surprise to be left off, particularly with Geoffrion making it.

He also didn't have a BAD weekend. I'm ****ed that he didn't make it.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

But should ONE weekend really define a season?

Of course it shouldn't. But it does every year as the voters who don't usually get to see these guys watch the opening round games.

Why isn't Chevy there? He was the most dominant player that I saw all season(regardless of the past couple of weekends) whether it be against us or in other games. Saw lots of DU games this year as they are on 683 almost every weekend and start an hour after us.

It's just how it works and to be honest, Geoffrion has a better chance with no other Badger in the group.

Thanks .... Badger fans don't often SEE bad defenders. And, why is Geoffrion a long-shot? Total goals is not the only determination of a great hockey player. If this has anything to do with leadership and building teamwork. Bring it on ... Wisconsin will finally have its Hobey.
