Stepan confirmed TODAY that he's not going anywhere (at least now.) He was on "On Wisconsin" with Brian Posick this afternoon. There was no mention of major junior.

Wow, a lot of advice in a short amount of time. Don't you people have jobs?! Usually we charge $20 a spot...but since there will be more of a shortage, it might be well worth it.

Flamethrower seems to be the most logical method at this point.

IF it does melt, anyone on here can park at my house for $5. It would be nice to talk to someone who knows something about badger hockey instead of my drunken roommates. (Offer does not stand to VW or uw14...I read enough of your conversations on here.):p

Back to hockey. I am not too familiar with player's statements about staying or leaving in the past but I do remember Blake last year stating he was returning...with some skepticism expressed here on the board. I really would like to take Stepan's word for it.........so I will:) .

Interesting to see John Buccigross agree with us on something. From his column on what every team in the NHL could trade to get Ilya Kovalchuk:

Phoenix Coyotes
Proposed trade: Kovalchuk for Kyle Turris and a first-round pick.

Kyle Turris is part of the 2007 draft class that is slow developing. Only Patrick Kane is established. Turris, who turns 21 in August, went third after James van Riemsdyk; he is in the AHL and not producing at an elite level. It's hard to imagine his being an elite NHL player at this point.

Yeah, Kyle Turris *should* have been at least a 3 year guy at UW, he was barely big and physical enough to really do any serious scoring in the WCHA. I, for one, am not at all surprised he isn't producing at a high level even in the AHL.

A split isn't the worst thing in the world this weekend. Disappointing how it went down though, with the 4 goal first period.
Odd how when Eaves has made the call to give a goaltender back to back starts ( aside from @UND when his hand was forced), the goalie has failed to impress.
Oh well, bring on DU.

As an aside, I was looking at the schedule, and what's up with the later start to the two games against Mankato?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

This coming weekend is where we can really gauge how good this team is. If we can make a statement and sweep Denver, the #1 seed in St. Paul is in our grasp. This might be the most important weekend of hockey for UW since March of 2006. Hopefully the guys are up for it.

I don't know what went SO horrifically wrong Saturday for UW, but it was great to see UW not roll over, but fight back. It's important for UW to keep their scoring confidence up against DU and UMD. The goaltending will be fine.

Looking @ +/-, Stepan's line really struggled on D Saturday.

Well Tim, Brian Posick told me it was "aweful" D zone coverage by both f and d. That's something that's easily cleaned up and all should be in order for this weekend.

Keep your stick on the ice.

I agree. When I saw the score was 6-3 CC (i was out w/friends at the time) I though uh oh, *** is happening. but to hear the 2 late goals is a good sign of character I think...

bring on DU. I can't wait for Saturday

UW men's hockey coach Mike Eaves said Monday he was still waiting to hear if one of his players will be academically eligible for the second semester.

Eaves didn't identify the individual, but multiple sources have confirmed that freshman defenseman Justin Schultz was in limbo. UW begins the spring semester Tuesday.

Schultz, from West Kelowna, British Columbia, has started all 22 games for the Badgers and has 2 goals, 7 assists and 9 points. He was a second-round NHL draft pick of Anaheim in 2008.

"It's going down to the 11th hour,'' Eaves said.

I was at both games, and the CC team that came out saturday was nowhere to be found friday night. They had some good looks, and out hussled the badgers for the first 15 minutes...

Schulz hasn't been very integral to our team's success this year so if he goes out, it's not a huge loss. He is only at +2 and had 9 points in 22 games. Hopefully Johnson or Springer can fill the hole if he ends up going out. I'll be sure to bring up UND's bad news in your thread the next time it comes out. Thanks, Brian.

Not critical, are you blind! Have you seen the 2nd pairing (him and Goloubef) make a ton of mistakes this year? Who runs the 1st PP unit? While a freshman, Schultz hasn't played like a freshman, and looking at stats solely as a basis of a player's "success" leads me to believe while the KC is your second home, you spend your time there in the bathroom instead of watching the game.

If Eaves would let him shoot on the PP instead of always trying to set up Smith, he'd have a lot more points. He arguably has the hardest slap shot on the team.

If Schultz is out because of academics that is a big blow to the blue line. You trying to tell me that Springer or Johnson are equal in talent to Schultz? That they can "step right in" w/ out the team taking a step down, whether that step is big or small is irrelevant.

Is there an icon for me unlessly shaking my head?

I don't care that you posted this here and I have no idea of your motives - informational, discussion starting or to rip. It didn't seem like a rip, but whatever.

I'm just wondering how you found this article and if you troll our news sources looking for material. Is this how the paint thinner consumption was uncovered and also the incident with the deer?

If so, I applaud your dedication. :D
