And the fact that 2 of his World Jr. coaches are college coaches and the third was his prep coach (I think). Not like there was anything from that tourney that would make a player go, "Wow, these college players really are nothing compared to the CHL players, I better get out of the college game ASAP!"

:D

On the Heller show tonight, Steps said he'd be back at UW next season. Yeah, I know we've heard that before, but take it for what it's worth.

What was the Dialog like in the conversation? How did it come up?

Important series this weekend. A UW sweep would be appreciated by us lowly Gopher fans.:o Thanks.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

It's off the cuff, but he didn't waffle at all. Like I said, we've heard this before. Here's hoping!

A link to the podcast is below. The conversation with Stepan is about halfway through.

While this may have nothing to do w/ his decision in anyway, Blake Geoffrion's return is certainly a shining example for returning for "one more year" when everyone thinks you should turn pro.

I'm certainly hoping he returns, and if the Badgers don't lose ALL the high draft pick dmen (maybe just McDonagh and Smith) things will still be looking rather bright next season.

As I mentioned in the 60 Minutes blog comments, IMO while it may help Stepan's development to come back for another year instead of playing in the AHL, it helps UW a lot more than it helps Stepan. ;)

And even though he's having a breakout year goal-scoring wise, I think the same could be said for Geoffrion.

I'm not complaining, since I'd love to see them ALL stay 4 years, but we shouldn't kid ourselves and think that one extra year is always going to help these guys develop that much. Of course every situation is different, so you can't just say everybody should stay 'X' number of years to maximize their development.

Get one of these, slacker:

Driveway? Yes. Shoveling grass? Not on my priority list.

Well, moving on to the AHL is not the same as going to Major Junior.

Now, Steps turns 20 this year (I think) and only 3 players per MJ team are allowed to be older than 20, so I don't see MJ being a realistic option anyway.

Now, if he were to go to the AHL, that is indeed a full step up in the level of competition, and of course would have him on speed-dial with the NHL club.

Yeah, I'm not even considering that as an option (MJ...since at the end of the day I consider it equivalent to college hockey in a development sense), I was talking AHL, maybe having a few games with the big club (which is what guys like Geoffrion, Stepan, McD would get, I think).

Well, losing him would stink, obviously, but I can't argue with a decision to move on to the AHL.

MJ would be a lateral or backwards move, which is why it would **** me off, but going on to the AHL could be good for his development as a player.

So much of that depends on the organization's needs. I can't speak to the Rangers farm system at all, but that's got to be a big factor. The benefit of being in the AHL is interoperability with the NHL team. Just look at John Carlson, the GWG scorer - big player in Hershey, has played a few games with the Caps even though they're loaded with talent right now.

Agreed. All I know about the Rangers farm system is Nigel Williams is in it, so it can't be too good. :D

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I repeat: slacker. :p

Think of the money you'd be rolling in for a few hours of shoveling. :D

WHERE is he going to put the snow? Dump it on the neighbor's driveway?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

The back yard, of course. :D You city slickers, never thinking outside the box.

A "few hours" to haul all the snow in the front yard around to the back yard? Hu-uh.

What he should do is not only do the parkers have to pay for parking, they have to clear their own spot. Of course, that would have to be done ahead of time, so he better get on lining up those parkers now.

There ya go, now you're using your thinker!

This reminds me of that situation in my own yard.

Up until this year, I would build a rink in my backyard for my kid that was 30' x 50'. It was quite a process of setting yard timbers in place, laying a waterproof liner and filling it with a lakefull of water.

A couple of years ago, we went to Florida for a couple of weeks in late November. While we were gone, we got about 8 inches of snow and then a good amount of freezing rain.

I came home to this crusted over mess and had(decided) to remove all of it from my backyard before I could build the rink. This involved breaking the crust with a 4 x 4 timber and then filling a wheel barrel with these giant chunks and wheeling them to the side of the yard.

I had these giant mounds of icy snow chunks until May.

I had to look like a nut case to the neighbors.

I think you should do it for parking.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Move all that snow by hand? You all are nuts. This is what you do:

Go find some guy with a plow, give him $20 to have him clear your yard by pushing all the snow into someone else's yard. Then all you have to do is spend a little time with a shovel in some minor clean up work.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I think WW should buy one of those World War II flame throwers. Clear that snow right out.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Did anyone see that Yale dropped to 18th in pariwise after the Harvard lost. I thought they were one of the better teams we have played this year and if the season ended today they would not be in the NCAA tournament. I guess they only have two plus months of hockey to fix that.....

I can not wait to start up WCHA play again!
