I was commenting on the atmosphere. I'm sure that the crowd has very little to do with our success over the past 10 years.

And sorry, but Wisconsin isn't the "Real State of Hockey."

You get dumber by the day.

The atmosphere for Badger basketball games is pretty darn good. You just happened to attend a game where the team couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Go to a few more and you'll see what kind of atmosphere the KC is for basketball.

This is a horrible atmosphere:

You assume that I'm basing my entire point about the Basketball crowds on Tuesday's game?

I moved to Madison after college in 93 and over the years have been to probably 40 or so basketball games. I saw them in the Field House and have seen many games at the KC. I was at the very first Grateful Red game and in the student section that night so have the original shirt. I've seen them play the bad(University of Chicago), the good(Michigan State) and the excellent(Pittsburgh).

A big part of the reason that I don't go that often is because of how lame the atmosphere is. The crowd is reactionary and only cheers after something good happens. They rarely, if ever, cheer on their own as a means to lift our team. The exception of course being when Duke or someone like that makes a rare appearance.

In my original post on this I was simply pointing out how much better the hockey student section is than the basketball one. Funny that only hours later Mike Lucas blogged about the same exact thing. I wasn't imagining the stale atmosphere.

I never said we didn't have a great home record and I never said that there wasn't a home court advantage. I said that it had little to do with the atmosphere.

So, thanks for pointing out where I was mistaken.

Careful with using Mike Lucas to buttress a hockey argument. The man is in favor of shoot-outs, for God's sake.

I was referring to Lucas's view of the atmosphere only. Why can't you people stay on topic? :D

P.S. Lucas is a hockey genius compared to some around these parts.

:D lol

Does anybody use the "Ignore List"? I'm considering........

I don't use it, there is too much fodder from a select few no it alls (yes that is on purpose) to have fun with. They're like a little kid with a cardboard box, the box is empty, but still fun to play with.

This is incorrect. The atmosphere for a big, important game at the KC is good. Unless there's a 'name' opponent, a big rival, or some sort of championship on the line, it sucks.

I've been to plenty of Badger hoops games - including some big wins as well as some standard Big Ten conference games. The atmosphere for 'all' games is not 'pretty darn good'. Look at it this way - your average hockey crowd for a game against Michigan Tech is going to be more vocal than your average hoops crowd for a game against Penn State. And that's even with the hockey crowd having 5,000 fewer voices.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I think the Badger hockey student section is better as well, but that doesn't take anything against the Grateful Red. Hockey is just a more exciting sport in general so it's easier for the crowd to get riled up with more physical play and the speed of the game. The Badger's basketball style doesn't help either where they hold the ball until 5 seconds to go in the shot clock and then start their offense, but that is the style that helps them win games.

I love going to both sports, and I'm annoyed with all of the cutting on "bouncy ball" around here. It seems that people like me are a rarity in that I actually do enjoy both. Most people seem to go one way or the other.

Here's to a Final Four and a Frozen four in the same year!

It's in the hockey culture to not like basketball. If you have ever been in a hockey program before, the comparison to "wussy ball" is an every day occurance.

The style and pace of Bo's Badgers has nothing to do with the lack of enthusiasm from the crowd. Again, hockey fans cheered loudly for far worse performances.

I enjoy basketball, too. I watch all the Badger games I can. I'd prefer hockey, but that's no matter. I certainly don't dislike the sport or the UW team.

That said, there is simply no comparison in fan participation. Anyone who's been to both sports in person and is offering an honest and objective view will agree.

This is so true. The coaches that I've worked with for the past 4 years on my son's team always point out basketball when saying things such as, "With that effort, you might as well be playing basketball."

I use Soccer. Soccer sucks and only pansies play it. :D

Lawn fairies.
AKA Field Fairies...as we call 'em.:D Have you ever seen one of those Euros go down after they were "brushed" by another player? You would have thought he got shot in the head.

Anyway... back to hockey. I took in a couple of games @ Cap Ice last night, going back in a little while, then onto Herbie's Hockey House tonight. I told MrsMCR I'd see her Sunday afternoon.

The Badgers this weekend; to me nothing short of a sweep is acceptable.

Peter Mannino must have played soccer after that flop he took a few seasons back when Ben Grotting's stick brushed his helmet. He dropped like Grotting had just landed a right hook on his head Patricia White style.

Agree on the sweep, two teams going different directions, no reason for that to change this weekend.
