In the time lapse of the CCRC, it appears that after the team has left the ice that a bunch of people come back out for a group photo. This is after the Badgers did their own. Anybody know who was in that photo? It almost looks like both teams.

Playoff Status STRONGLY disagrees w/ you. Denver 70% chance of winning the MacNaugton, the other contenders rougly 10% each.

DU hosts the gophers, then Tech, goes to Mankato and then a home/home w/ CC.

Assuming the Badgers win 6 of 8, which I agree w/ you on, where does Denver go 4-3-1 in that schedule for the Badgers to catch up in the standings? They don't lose often at home, and Mankato isn't going to slow them down on the road. I think DU is going to go 6-2 out as well, win the MacNaughton by 3 pts over the Badgers. The Badgers realistically need to win out, which could happen.

I'm happy Tech beat Duluth, increases the Badgers chances at 2nd/3rd place, which is where they want to be to avoid the Final Five play in game. If they win the MacNaughton and DU stumbles, awesome, but realistically, I'd like to see the Badgers finish 2nd based on how things sit right now.

I think this scenario is reasonable for DU:

Minnesota - L
Minnesota - W
Tech - W
Tech - W
MSU - L
MSU - W
CC - L
CC - Tie

While it isn't likely, I think if we finish out strong we have a decent shot at the cup. I agree, though, that 2nd is probably more likely and puts us in position to obtain our ultimate goal: a 2010 National Title.

Groan.

How about this? Just focus on winning the next game. The rest will take care of itself.

Scooby thinks they're going to take two.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Saturday was the first game I've seen this year on an NHL sized rink. I felt like the middle 40 minutes of boring play was partially the result of the small sheet. Given our performance last week at the DECC, and earlier this season at Michigan, I'm left thinking that the small sheet works against us. It's probably partly just what we're used to, but I also think it's possible that our team speed & skill isn't well used on a small sheet. There were too many people in the passing lanes & our break outs weren't good. Part of it seemed to be that we weren't completing tape to tape passes (which could have been partially the weather conditions), but it just looked congested through the neutral zone. Is Michigan known for trapping, or is this just how we look with less ice to use?

Am I the only one that thought this? If so, what size are the NCAA tournament sheets this year? Are we going to be hampered by little rinks when it comes time to play the games that REALLY matter?

The UM/UW game looked like the small rink was constricting play, but I think the real reason is that both teams gave 100% effort and played their systems nearly flawlessly. I also watched the UMD series on Charter :), and I really didn't notice the small sheet because UMD played poorly Friday and made it easy for UW to transition and Saturday, UW played poorly, making it easy for UMD to transition. So I think it's more of a function of how well each team plays. The UM/UW both teams played well against the transition. I do think the extra width on a bigger rink makes transitioning easier because the gaps in the trap from player to player are wider, thus allowing more room for the attacking team to break down the D.

The ice was also ridiculously slow after 5 minutes into each period. That also didn't allow UW to utilize our speed. I would rather have UW play on a big sheet of ice in March, but we should be good enough to win on either.

The No. 3 Badger men’s hockey team (16-7-4, 11-6-3 WCHA) is coming off last weekend’s come-from-behind victory in the Culver’s Camp Randall Hockey Classic against Michigan. This weekend, UW gets back into WCHA play as it hosts Minnesota State (12-14-2, 6-13-1 WCHA) at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin is currently in a fourth-place tie in the conference, but it only trails conference-leaders Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State by four points. On Monday, Mike Eaves talked about last weekend’s game and touched on the team’s final conference stretch.

As I do every year, I'd like to remind everybody about the annual Gold Medal Classic at Capitol Ice. Bob Suter, family, and friends have been doing this for 22 years now...wow. There are 16 HIGH QUALITY major midget teams from the US and Canada.

With the Badgers at home this weekend with later starts, why not take in some day games this weekend and fill it with hockey.

Good Call MCR.

These players that are in attendance are committed to colleges:

Shattuck St. Marys: Joe Basaraba (Minnesota Duluth), Jason Clark (Wisconsin), Kirill Gotovets (Cornell), Jimmy Mullin (Miami), J.P. Lafontaine (Minnesota State), James Polk (Nebraska-Omaha), Brad Robbins (Bemidji).

Team Illinois: Chris Joyaux (Ohio State)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

So I went to the hoops game tonight against Illinois. I'm not like some here who hate "bouncyball", but it's my least favorite of the major four sports and I probably only get to one or two Badger games a season.

It really struck me tonight how lame the student section was and how great the hockey student section is. I think is was during Tequila tonight when about 20% of the students were into it and the rest were apathetic. They really did nothing of note all night.

By contrast, the hockey student section for the U-18 game was only a few hundred and was great. I hope we never forget how much those kids add to the atmosphere and always appreciate them.

No wonder they feel like they need to hand out signs at the basketball games.

Can't wait for Friday!

Its interesting you mention this because during the game broadcast on Big Ten Network they mentioned the, "Grateful Red" and how they make the Kohl one of the loudest, most hostile and difficult to win at places for the road team in all of NCAA basketball.
That game was pretty pathetic for the Badgers. They definetly didnt play at their best. They were too impatient, missed way too many shots and made way too many mistakes.

Those guys just get their talking points and hit on them. There weren't even students in the 300's. All the talk about the KC being a tough place to play in basketball is a joke.

Yes, the Badgers have a great record at home while Bo's been here, but it's not because of the crowd. I'm surprised that more of them don't die during the games.
