Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

Blue Line Club was available, but you could get beer in the basement without that. Just that it had to be drank down there and not brought up to the seats. I was always the DD for my friends as they would disappear for whole periods at a time and I was interested in watching the games, so it worked out well. 1 minute left in the period, there was a max rush to get to the basement.

Ah yes, that’s right! I forgot about the basement. Man…racing down there, drinking an amber and racing back to the seats in time to see at least 16 minutes of a period was quite the feat.

today drinking a beer that quickly I’d probably fall asleep!!

What I remember is the long line to buy. After gulping it down and going back to your seat you look up and see that there are, like, 9 minutes left in the 2nd period...lol.

Yes, I remember those times! And running through the snow after the game to be first in line to get on the bus back to campus.

Any news coming out of the summer workouts? Wondering how thing are going........

It has been really quiet on the news front. The scedule hasnt even been released yet. I too thought the non conf slate is absolutely awful. Fans will def NOT be attracted to Kohl Ctr with tams like Lindenwood and Augustana. They need to be scheduling the traditional region teams like NMU, Tech, LSSU, Bemidji, St. Cloud, Mankato, and UMD. Maybe even CC or ND.

There have been no Roster announcements yet either. I assume with practice and eval going full ahead right now. Maybe by Sep we will have answers. Ill be watching closely the hustle and teamwork this year.

They’re practicing already? I’m way behind on news.

agreed on the schedule. Non-conference s/b Nodak, CC, St. Cloud, Denver, UMD, NMU, MTU, Bimidji and Mankato imo. Just rotate between those 9.

Well, last year's schedule was released on Aug 22nd by the Big10, so I'm assuming similar will happen this week. The 22nd was a Mon in 2022, so Im assuming it will be released either tomorrow or next Mon the 28th.

My biggest gripe about scheduling has been the lck of any intrigue/attendanve in the non conf slate. Minnesota Duluth is about the only consistent non conf partner we have had that generates any attendance. Also, the Conf games in october right out of the gate are terrible decisions. Youd think the Big10 could slate series and games to avoid going up against football and drive attendance higher for league games.

It’s honestly ridiculous how long the B1G takes to release men’s hockey schedules compared to other conferences.

No roster up yet either. So slow going into the fall season.....

Agreed - I don't need to know the TV schedule or game times in August. I can even live with the possibility of games moving between Fri/Sat/Sun based on different factors. I do need to make arrangements for dog boarding because we don't live in Madison. I would love to know which weekends are hockey weekends so I could possibly get Volleyball tickets, but those already went on sale and could very well be sold out. There are also other tickets and events that are dependent on whether we will be in Madison for a weekend...

I saw in the schedules thread, we are going to Michigan Tech the weekend of Oct 20 - 21.

My sophomore year at MTU, WI came in I think ranked pretty high. That was '82. I think I'm going to schedule a trip up for the almost 40th anniversary of that one game.

For dog care, check out Rover. Ive used it here in the Detroit area with good results. That way dog doesnt have to be boarded.

I think Im going to make the trip to Tech this year. Pizza, beer and hockey, whats nlt to love?!

NC Schedule according to USCHO:

10/7, 10/8 vs Augustana
10/13 at Bemidji State
10/14 at North Dakota
10/20, 10/21 at Michigan Tech
11/24, 11/25 vs Alaska Anchorage
12/28, 12/29 Holiday Faceoff - vs Air Force, UMD/Northeastern
1/12, 1/13 vs Lindenwood

Glad to see Sue on the schedule but only one game is not enough. Tech should be a good series up in da UP.

We use Rover. So nice compared to boarding places.

What a brutal opening schedule with 8 of the first 12 on the road (with UM and Um for 4). I like it in that it will kinda force a massively overhauled roster to bond. Then they don't leave the state for the entire month of December. No updated roster as of 8/30 and school starts in 5 days.

To me, the schedule sets up about as well as we could hope for. A good ramp of early NC games, BSU and MTU should be two of the best in the CCHA this year, but Hastings and Co are very familiar with them. A good challenge with NoDak, an early trip to UMN will be a good benchmark (and more importantly means they come to Madison in the 2nd half, after football).
Michigan is the first B1G home series, but it falls on an away football weekend at Indiana, so that should hopefully prevent the series from being totally overshadowed and get at least a mention in the media.

a bunch of home games to wrap up the first half of the season and we can see where the team stands going into the 2nd half and hopefully be building some momentum and actually seeing improvement in the on-ice play.

It will be very interesting how UW hypes the first series of the year and of the Hastings era against Augustana and how the fans respond in terms of attendance. The Packers play Monday night, so that won't interfere with the Sunday game. Saturday is Homecoming for FB. We all know the October games over the last number of years have not been well attended with more notable opponents. I for one am interested in going to one game that weekend. I swore a few years ago that I would not attend another game and pay to watch a TG coached team. Now that's long behind us. Let's Go RED!

Same! I might have over corrected with buying season tickets, but it’s worth the risk IMO.
