Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

Man, that UW Band blog post is irking me quite a while after reading it.

I’m going to sit back on this season. If the band isn’t part of it, and what few fans that are left are just being blasted over by a DJ… man, that just doesn’t even feel like college hockey. I can stay in Milwaukee and get phoned in, minor league atmosphere at Admirals games.

Maybe this is all fear mongering because of how much the Camp Randall experience has sucked since Leckrone retired, but… I don’t think the performance of the team is going to be enough to bring me back to the Kohl.

During the Augustana game the DJ/sound system played a lot of the marching band songs on the speaker.

It was fucking pathetic and I was almost embarrassed to sit there and listen to it. If they have that crap again at the next game I will be calling the ticket office to request a refund on my season tickets and will not get off the phone until they explain to me why they are so dumb as to not have the band there.

Talk about clueless and out of touch.... sounds alot like the thinking that led to keeping Granato around for 3 years too long. I bet Jason King is somehow involved in this genius idea.

Hopefully Hastings nips this crap in the bud asap.

We seem to have the goofs frustrated. Frankly, their play is bordering on dirty. Very tough listening to Clymer (admittedly, I'm not a fan of his announcing even when it's not the border battle).

Can you believe this is the same team from last year? It's going to be exciting watching them grow even better as the year goes on. And then a restock with new talent. Finally, a split is nice, but a sweep of the chokers would be unbelievable.

Knee-on-knee, contact to the head and spearing in the last 10 minutes. Only one was called.

I think in time you can really get Hastings worked up on this one. His first year at Kato, the band sucked, showed up infrequently, and were stuck up in the rafters. From his second year until he left, they became a huge part of the atmosphere. He mentioned it frequently in postgame interviews. The players would always go and salute the band at the end of games. I know he's on your side on this one, but he may need to focus on straightening out the hockey end of things first.

Great to hear! I’d say after tonight Mike Hastings has the capital to walk into Mac’s office and tell him the band needs to take precedent over DJ’s at men’s hockey games.

We...are...DOMINATING Minnesota here! I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Hastings for President. That is all...

The puck possession time for Wisconsin is just insane. No time and space for the opposing team do anything with it. Amazing. I think the gophers look lazy in their d zone like Wisconsin used to look.

Wow….just wow…..what a great win. Great puck movement, creativity in the offensive zone, great pressure on the puck on defense, and some timely saves by McClellan. I really like how Bucky didn’t panic in their own zone and made good passes or lifted pick out to center ice. Aggressive but disciplined play from all the lines that were on the ice - very few mental mistakes from what I saw.

The chippy stuff at the end was a bit surprising coming from the “Pride on Ice”. Strobel goes high on Finley, Tassy takes a knee-to-knee hit right before that and then Nelson finishes off a fine display of sportsmanship with a deliberate slash on Dexheimer that was seen by everyone in the arena except the refs.

The results may be different tomorrow, and there will be ups and downs this season, but I think what we saw tonight is a preview of what Hastings is going to be able to accomplish in Madison.

The term I keep hearing is "accountability". Perservere, move forward, but hold each other accountable. Their drive to pucks is just outstanding.

Agreed on all fronts.

the cheap shots by the gophers was a bit surprising but they’re so arrogant they get frustrated very easily.

if Wisconsin had a Sean Hill or Ryan McDonagh type on D I think the rats would think twice about crossing the line into dirty play.

I just hope to see a repeat of effort tomorrow and let the chips fall where they may.

it’s insane how quickly Mike Hastings has turned this team around and I know they had more talent to work with than Fickell inherited but still…Hastings looks like Lombardi or “Badger” Bob right now.

One of my favorite tidbits....they are still one of the youngest teams in NCAA but they are top 5 in ht and wt. Their ability to be physical and win pucks is out freaking standing.

Under TG they were consistently small in both ht and wt.

They are just so smart with and without the puck. Excellent commitment to team defense. Even on breakdowns that turn into 2-on-1s they do enough to slow the play down and let the other backcheckers catch up.

McClellan made some excellent saves and was a sponge (minimal rebounds). The way he and the team defense play, if they score 3 goals on the night they are going to win most games. It’s a culture shock for sure after the last 7 or so years.

Bantle - might be the most underrated forward on the team for me. I thought he was just a 4th line guy when the year started. He’s an absolute man amongst boys on the ice. He plays like I wish Stramel would play.

Lucius - loved the “shhhhhh” finger he gave the crowd!

DSP - this guy is sooo skilled with the puck. He finds all the soft areas on the ice and takes advantage of them. 10 points in 7 games. Tied for 3rd in the NCAAs so far.

Palodichuk - he is my favorite player on the team. Strong on the puck. Good defensive zone presence. Physical. Good stick. He’s a threat to score from the blueline. He feels like he’s already our best defenseman and there’s more untapped potential there.
